The TB News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hello, my name is Marjorie and I'm a Baptist leader in Sheffield
0:11
Do you ever switch on the news and just find yourself reflecting on how much pain there is in this world
0:19
Maybe you are someone who is currently experiencing pain or loss or trouble of some kind
0:26
Often, if we are honest, we want mercy for us when we are struggling or in trouble and justice for others
0:33
We get very worked up about other people's wrongdoing and have a great ability to ignore our own stuff
0:41
The Bible acknowledges that pain and suffering in this world is very real
0:45
And in the book of Hebrews, we read that we have a God revealed in Jesus Christ
0:51
who himself was acquainted with pain, suffering and grief. That means that today God can empathise and sympathise in our suffering and weakness
1:02
He is a God who offers us forgiveness which we can then extend to others
1:08
In my job as a church minister I often sit with people on the bad days and yet I am really struck by the fact however bad it gets we have a God who suffered for us suffers with us and who offers
1:22
us fresh hope. I often think of it like this. We may be walking through a valley, but he walks with
1:29
us. And one day we will come out of the valley and see a new horizon, maybe seen with a different
1:36
perspective. In the meantime, nothing, absolutely nothing, can keep us from his love. And the
1:43
Apostle Paul said this in Romans 8, for I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from
1:51
God's love, neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our
1:59
worries about tomorrow. Not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in
2:07
the sky above or in the earth below, indeed nothing in all of creation, will ever be able to separate
2:13
us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord
