0:00
you're about to discover how you can get
0:02
cheaper cruise fares based on your job
0:04
or the industry you work in I'm Garry
0:07
beverage this is another of my cruise
0:08
tips for travelers there are a whole
0:10
bunch of jobs or industries where by
0:14
simply doing a few things are asking you
0:16
can actually get cheaper cruise fares
0:18
this is not something that I've really
0:19
realized until quite recently so I'm
0:21
gonna take you through eight jobs and
0:23
industries and hopefully you are in one
0:26
of those and you can get a discount so
0:28
let's start first of all with this one
0:30
if you're in the military there is a lot
0:33
of options in terms of getting
0:34
discounted cruise fares so if you're in
0:37
the military or you're a veteran you
0:39
will find there are loads of
0:40
opportunities the three biggest cruise
0:42
lines Carnival Royal Caribbean and
0:45
Norwegian Cruise Line all offer
0:47
discounts for military or retired
0:50
military pretty much all year round the
0:53
way you actually access these varies so
0:54
some of them you can either call it the
0:57
cruise line up and ask them well some of
0:58
them actually when you go through the
0:59
booking process you'll find at some
1:01
point for example in Royal Caribbean as
1:02
you go through the booking process you
1:04
then just simply tick a box if you are
1:06
military but you'll find many of other
1:09
cruise lines on an ongoing basis will
1:11
offer deals so celebrity Disney MSC they
1:15
all offer deals in fact some of the best
1:17
that I looked at in terms of deals I
1:19
think are Royal Caribbean and MSC
1:20
Cruises they have lots and lots of
1:22
opportunities for military people to get
1:24
discounted fare so if you have been in
1:26
the military or currently military you
1:28
can definitely get lower cruise fares
1:30
and often extra onboard credit the
1:33
second area where you can get great
1:35
cruise at discounts is if you are what I
1:37
guess in the US are called first
1:39
responders so particularly the police
1:40
and firemen and there are lots and lots
1:43
of opportunities here for discounts they
1:46
are a little bit more difficult to find
1:47
sometimes then in the military but
1:50
you'll find lots and lots of
1:51
opportunities so you'll find for example
1:54
that Royal Caribbean Celebrity MSC
1:57
Cruises certainly the time that I was
1:59
recording this they were all offering
2:01
very specific First Responder discounts
2:04
on various selected cruises so it tends
2:06
to be selected cruises at certain times
2:08
I also found if you use some of the
2:11
cruise aggregators so for example
2:13
to go they have a very specific section
2:15
which is just for first responders and
2:17
police and they will tell you what deals
2:19
are going at that particular time the
2:22
way you access those are at the time of
2:23
booking you have to provide either a
2:25
copy of your ID or some kind of proof
2:28
that you are a first responder but you
2:32
can be for example in the u.s. if you
2:34
are a federal state or even a local
2:38
police officer you can get access to
2:40
those if you're a fireman you can be
2:42
even a volunteer fireman to access those
2:44
so there are lots of opportunities so if
2:46
you are a policeman or a fireman then
2:49
definitely you have an opportunity to
2:51
get lower Cruz fares they tend to be
2:53
more selected sailings the third area is
2:56
if you're a healthcare professionals
2:58
here a doctor nurse or your work in the
3:00
healthcare industry now these are much
3:02
more difficult to get than the previous
3:04
two categories and in fact it's even
3:06
easier to get if you actually work in
3:07
the UK so what I found in the UK if you
3:10
work for the National Health Service no
3:12
matter what role you have you can access
3:14
lots of discounts now the discounts tend
3:16
to be more in the form of extra onboard
3:18
credit but you will also find you can
3:20
get discounts of set amounts on
3:23
different cruises and there is a very
3:25
specific site that will help you do that
3:27
so for example the site in the UK is
3:29
called health service discounts comm and
3:32
they offer everything from Princess
3:34
Celebrity Royal Caribbean how in America
3:36
Norwegian Cruise Line cost to MSC piano
3:39
cruisers Cunard Carnival River Cruises
3:41
so again lots opportunities you not
3:43
listening to get big discounts and fairs
3:46
always but you will get extra onboard
3:47
credit which of course helps enormously
3:49
the fourth type of profession is if
3:52
you're a teacher or you actually work in
3:53
universities you can also get various
3:56
discounts and extra onboard credit again
3:58
a bit like with the healthcare service
4:00
you tend to have to access those via
4:02
different organisations rather than with
4:04
the cruise lines direct so you're
4:06
normally booking through being a member
4:08
of some kind of site or organisation but
4:11
definitely there are opportunities to
4:13
get discounts and deals so for example
4:16
I've found there's a couple of
4:17
partnerships we can get discounts on
4:19
lines including World Caribbean MSC
4:21
Cruises Disney Princess Han American
4:24
Norwegian the sites that you get those
4:26
sites like teachers travel discounts
4:30
calm my education discount calm and
4:33
again also on aggregator sites like
4:35
vacations to go they do have a specific
4:37
section to help teachers and academics
4:41
get discounts on cruises the next areas
4:44
if you're a government employee
4:45
particularly government employee in the
4:46
United States there is a way of also
4:48
getting discounts there's a website
4:50
which you can join if you can prove that
4:52
you're a government employee and that
4:54
site is called gov X through that side
4:57
in addition to getting discounts on all
4:59
sorts of things they do have a very
5:00
specific Travel section and again for
5:02
cruises we can get discounted cruises or
5:04
extra onboard credits so if you work in
5:06
any sort of government organization then
5:09
you can probably get a discount or some
5:11
benefits on a cruise the next area is
5:14
one of the most established for getting
5:16
travel discounts and that's airline
5:18
employees there's a thing called inter
5:20
line rates and this is set up to help
5:22
airline employees travel on different
5:24
airlines they used to be for fares which
5:26
were pretty close to flying or they were
5:30
standby Affairs this is now expanded
5:33
into cruise lines so if you work in the
5:35
airline industry you can probably access
5:36
an interline fare for cruises they tend
5:39
to be at more shorter notice it'll tend
5:41
to be in this of 90 to 60 days before a
5:43
cruise you know after people who pay
5:45
their final balance when cruise lines
5:46
didn't have capacity they then trying to
5:48
sell the advantage of the inter line
5:50
rates is they don't want to make this
5:51
very public so they have very specific
5:53
agencies so you'll find and you'll know
5:55
this if you're an airline employee that
5:57
you work through inter line agencies
5:59
which have these rates and you have to
6:01
prove that you're an you know an
6:02
employee but you can get some great
6:04
discounted rates on cruises and it will
6:07
vary most cruise lines do get involved
6:09
in inter line rates to help clear
6:11
inventory so it's definitely something
6:13
to do so you need to go through one of
6:14
and the agencies that are inter line and
6:17
offer interline fares both for hotels
6:20
flights and now for cruises also with
6:24
airline employees you'll find that
6:25
depending on the site you'll sometimes
6:27
find affiliated like air traffic
6:30
controllers may be able to get access to
6:32
it or people who just work in airports
6:33
and the rules that do differ slightly
6:35
but if you work anything to do in the
6:37
airline industry you're probably gonna
6:39
be able to get a disc
6:40
there are some specialist sites like
6:42
airline crew discount dotnet and again
6:45
vacations to go have an interline search
6:48
opportunity and another site called ab
6:50
c-- comm what if you don't work in the
6:53
airline industry well don't despair
6:54
because if you do anything related to
6:57
travel you're probably also going to be
6:58
able to get a discount so you could work
7:00
for the railways you could work in air
7:03
traffic control you can work in a hotel
7:04
you could work in a tour industry a
7:07
tourism board anything that promotes and
7:10
sells travel you're probably going to be
7:12
able to get a discount on a cruise now
7:14
one of the examples I'd like to give it
7:15
is a company that I'm know relatively
7:17
well in the UK which is called touchdown
7:21
so touchdown will sell again to anyone
7:24
in the travel industry you can prove
7:26
that in the travel industry they will
7:27
sell cruises which are great prices and
7:30
again it tends to be in that period of
7:31
the 90 to 60 days when the Grizzlies are
7:34
looking to clear cabins they haven't
7:35
sold so again if you do anything related
7:38
to the travel industry take a look at
7:40
sites like touchdown to see if you can
7:43
qualify in fact even travel writers
7:46
travel bloggers could qualify for those
7:48
sort of rates the next area is in fact
7:52
if you're retired so if you're a senior
7:54
particularly you're over 55 years old
7:56
there are are lots and lots of
7:57
opportunities to get discounted fares so
8:00
you could still be working in over 55
8:01
but your cars are sort of as a senior
8:04
some cruise lines go really far and a
8:07
long way to try and deal and attract
8:09
more more seniors so if example Carnival
8:12
have a very specific section on their
8:13
side which offers sailings and fares
8:16
just for seniors and you'll find
8:18
discounted cruises for people over the
8:21
age of 55 you'll also find MSC Cruises
8:23
they do a lot of stuff to attract
8:26
seniors and they have a whole seniors
8:27
package where on selected settings you
8:29
get discounts but you'll also get
8:31
benefits like champagne and
8:33
chocolate-covered strawberries in your
8:34
cabin and you'll get invited to a
8:36
special cocktail party but you'll find
8:38
pretty much all cruise lines offer
8:40
something the way they often do that is
8:42
through the booking process again for
8:43
example on Royal Caribbean as you go
8:45
through the booking process and you put
8:47
in your age you may find that you
8:48
qualify for a discount
8:50
Norwegian Cruise Lines another great
8:53
to have very specific 55-plus sailings
8:56
where they offer extra discounts and
8:58
perks also very important if you are
9:01
over 55 look at some of the
9:02
organizations that exist where you can
9:05
be members for over 55 years old or some
9:08
isn't over six years old because many of
9:09
those then have relationships with
9:11
different providers so for example in
9:14
the US there's AARP which is aimed at
9:17
seniors and they have a whole travel
9:19
site which is a partnership with Expedia
9:21
we can book not only hotels flights but
9:23
also importantly cruises at a discount
9:26
there's a huge range of jobs and
9:28
professions and industries where you can
9:29
get discounts so how do you actually tap
9:31
into those discounts well there's a
9:32
couple of ways first of all the most
9:34
sensible thing to do is ask the cruise
9:36
line and one of the easiest ways of
9:37
doing that of course is looking at their
9:38
website or just using a search engine
9:41
and type and discount for firemen
9:43
discount for seniors whatever you're
9:45
looking for or whatever your job is and
9:47
see if anything comes up secondly of
9:49
course if you work with an agent simply
9:51
ask the agent are there discounts for my
9:53
particular profession the third thing
9:56
and I've touched on a couple of times is
9:57
join a site which is targeting your
9:59
particular industry or your particular
10:01
job and you'll find there are many of
10:03
those so if there's any sort of trade
10:05
organization or collective look at those
10:08
and see if they offer discounts on
10:09
cruises and the fourth way you can
10:11
access them is use some aggregator sites
10:15
like vacations to go or similar sites in
10:17
your country because you'll often find
10:19
they will have themed areas so just as
10:22
that many of them will have solo
10:24
traveling they might have seen is
10:25
traveling they might have health care
10:27
professional teachers whatever so take a
10:28
look at those there are loads of ways
10:31
you can get cheaper fares by doing a
10:33
little bit of research and finding out
10:35
if you're gonna get a benefit ask ask
10:37
the cruise lines ask your agent and
10:39
certainly use the internet and search I
10:42
hope you found that helpful I have loads
10:44
more videos full of tips and advice to
10:47
help you with cruising so why don't you
10:48
watch another one of those right now
