I'm Gary Bainbridge and this is the
0:02
second of my videos answering questions
0:05
and talking about topics that people
0:07
have asked me to talk about related to
0:09
the whole cruising shutdown and future
0:11
plans about cruising I've had loads and
0:14
loads of questions about canceling
0:16
cruisers refunds what you can expect
0:19
when you can do it and very importantly
0:21
for a lot of people whether you can get
0:22
money back from the cruise companies
0:25
because a lot of people are concerned
0:26
for example about the viability of
0:27
cruise lines and of course for many
0:29
people this whole shutdown has affected
0:32
their incomes and their financial
0:35
situation all people want cash back
0:36
rather than future credits so what are
0:39
your options available to you there are
0:41
really three different scenarios and the
0:43
three different scenarios differ in what
0:46
actually happens first of all if the
0:48
cruise line cancels your cruise secondly
0:51
if you decide you want to cancel cruise
0:53
that is still currently scheduled to run
0:57
and that really is up until about July
1:00
or September and thirdly if you want to
1:02
cancel cruises after that sort of July
1:04
to September time so for the rest of the
1:06
year and perhaps into next year so first
1:09
of all let's talk about what happens if
1:10
the cruise line cancels your cruise now
1:13
I personally believe that we will see
1:15
more and more cruisers being cancelled
1:17
so what actually happens if the cruise
1:19
line cancels first of all they will
1:21
refund automatically any add-on cost so
1:24
if you've paid for gratuities excursions
1:26
flights whatever that will be refunded
1:28
in cash pretty much as soon as they can
1:31
so you'll get that money back quite
1:33
quickly for the actual cruise fare the
1:35
first thing they will offer you is
1:36
future cruise credit and normally
1:39
there'll be some kind of incentive from
1:41
anything from 25% to 100% so for example
1:44
in virgin voyages canceled they are
1:46
offering 200% of your original cost if
1:50
you keep the booking and look at a
1:53
future cruise so there's some kind of
1:55
incentive if you cancel the other thing
1:57
they will offer you though is your cash
1:59
back and they'll offer you 100% of your
2:01
money back the way you get that is you
2:03
have to apply for it so most of the
2:06
cruise lines have forms that you fill
2:09
out an hour link all of those ones that
2:11
are available for the major cruise lines
2:13
in the description so you go online you
2:15
fill out a form and they requesting that
2:18
you had to get your money back rather
2:20
than a future cruise credits at the time
2:21
of recording they were all available so
2:23
certainly if your cruise gets cancelled
2:25
you have you will get your cash back if
2:28
you want it back for everything you paid
2:30
both the fare and all the bits and
2:31
pieces that you might have booked so
2:34
what happens if you decide though that
2:36
you want to cancel your cruise and you
2:39
perhaps got cruises in May at the moment
2:41
of June or July or depending on some
2:44
Cruise Lines right through to the end of
2:45
September if you want to cancel your
2:48
cruise between the when cruising is due
2:51
to start up and that time period they
2:54
are offering you again two options one
2:57
future cruise credit and again there's
2:59
lots and lots of different benefits and
3:01
perks that they're offering or secondly
3:04
the cash option and again you use those
3:06
forms to apply for the cash rather than
3:10
the perks however they're offering quite
3:12
big perk so let me give you an example
3:13
of some of the perks they're offering
3:15
if you go with Royal Caribbean they're
3:18
offering you one hundred twenty-five
3:19
percent of your fare to encourage you to
3:23
take it as a future cruise credit you do
3:25
have to use that by the end of next year
3:28
so quite a long time norwegian again
3:30
pretty much the same they're offering
3:31
you one twenty five percent and you can
3:34
use it right through to 2022 princess is
3:36
offering you different incentives based
3:39
on when the cruise was so kind of the
3:41
closer it was to the beginning of
3:45
cruising you've got a bigger increase
3:48
but it's anything between a 25% to 100%
3:50
but it's MSC Cruises in the Caribbean
3:52
again it's 125 percent if it's outside
3:56
of Europe they're offering at your
3:57
onboard credit I already mentioned
3:59
Virgin voyages were offering two hundred
4:00
percent and Crystal Cruises again about
4:03
one hundred and twenty five percent and
4:05
Viking we're doing the same what was
4:08
great with with Viking is if you don't
4:09
have to use that future cruise credit by
4:11
the end of 2022 they will actually fund
4:14
it in cash with the others you kind of
4:16
will lose it so you can see that if you
4:19
do want to cancel your cruise you will
4:22
get some incentives in future cruise
4:24
credit however with the thing changing
4:26
so fast if you do have the ability to
4:28
hold on and you don't need that cash or
4:30
you don't want that bonus
4:32
I would suggest hold on to those
4:34
bookings into May into June and wait for
4:38
the cruise line to cancel those if you
4:40
possibly can because you're likely to
4:41
get much more back because even when
4:44
they are refunding sometimes they're
4:46
also giving a little future cruise
4:48
vouchers to incentivize you or as an act
4:51
of goodwill to try and get you to book
4:52
so I would say basically wait what most
4:55
cruise lines are offering which is very
4:56
important is their cruise with
4:58
so those bookings that are in that time
5:00
periods to July or September depending
5:02
on the cruise line they're still
5:04
offering that 48 hours before you head
5:07
off on your cruise cancellation so the
5:10
third areas if what if you want to
5:11
cancel cruise for most cruise lines
5:13
after July or in the case of Norwegian
5:15
after September in this case there's
5:17
very little that you can do of course
5:19
you could cancel now and in most cases
5:21
if you've got a non-refundable deposit
5:23
you will lose the deposit now because
5:25
there's been many many incentives and
5:27
promotions you might find the deposits
5:28
very little however there's no real
5:30
benefit at the moment for cancelling
5:32
cruises later in the year you may as
5:34
well wait because again as the date of
5:36
cruising shifts I think we'll find the
5:38
cruise lines will start to bring in
5:39
there's various incentives at the moment
5:42
for those later cruises
5:43
they're still requiring you to pay your
5:46
final balance when that becomes due
5:48
although some cruise lines have
5:49
shortened from 90 days to 60 days and
5:52
theoretically you still will lose your
5:53
deposit if you cancel so I would
5:55
actually say if you've got cruises later
5:57
in the year I would just wait and see
6:00
how the whole cruising process moves
6:03
because you don't wanna cancel now and
6:04
lose your deposit it's worth just
6:05
waiting and seeing because as the whole
6:07
thing shifts I think we'll find much
6:09
more flexibility coming in towards the
6:11
end of the year is that a complicated
6:13
basically summarize the key thing to do
6:15
if you possibly can is wait for the
6:17
cruise line to cancel your cruise
6:19
because you are going to get the best
6:21
options and then the most amount of
6:23
options you really want the cash because
6:25
you've are novus about the future of
6:27
cruise lines or you just need the cash
6:30
then of course I would also cancel now
6:33
and request the cash option in terms of
6:36
cruise lines going bus or people who are
6:38
asking me that personally I'm less
6:40
turned about that because I think they
6:41
have quite a little funding I think we
6:44
will see as liquidity becomes tighter
6:45
and tighter they will be supported by
6:48
banks government whatever in terms of
6:50
loans but that's of course a key
6:52
decision that you need to take on what
6:54
you feel works for you and what you
6:56
believe will happen with the Cruise
6:58
Lines I think they are just too big and
6:59
too important to the economy in the
7:01
medium and long term and a way will be
7:03
found to keep them liquid got cash and
7:07
to keep moving forwards if you do have
7:09
any other questions you want to ask I
7:11
have other questions that I will address
7:12
in a couple of future videos and as I
7:15
mentioned I will keep making these
7:16
videos answering questions as a
7:18
situation changed if you have them until
7:21
then remember stay indoors stay home
7:23
stay safe look after yourself and of
7:26
course we can all keep dreaming of the
7:28
day when life comes back to something
7:30
more normal when it's safe to venture
7:32
out our homes and of course venture even
7:34
further afield traveling and cruising
