Sean Diddy Combs' ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, is expected to return to the stand today
0:05
She is, and she's considered to be the star witness in the sex trafficking and racketeering case against Diddy
0:12
Let's get right to good days. Riella Tomasetti, she's live at the Federal Courthouse in Lower Manhattan with more
0:16
Riella, good morning. So, Shani and Dan, good morning. This is really the first time Cassie Ventura made any sort of public comment about her relationship with Sean Diddy Combs
0:27
but her story led to his eventual arrest and indictment on federal charges
0:33
Yesterday, she told it all in court. During her first day of testimony, the 38-year-old R&B singer went into excruciating detail about Combs' so-called freak-offs
0:43
which prosecutors have described as drug-fueled sex parties. Ventura told the jury she met Combs at 19 years old and was just 22 when he asked her to participate in the first freak-off
0:54
explaining that she felt humiliated and confused, but ultimately happy that he was satisfied
1:00
She said Combs dictated every aspect of those encounters, which lasted sometimes up to 72 hours, and recorded them as a form of blackmail
1:07
Ventura testified the freak-offs and other aspects of the couple's relationship came with physical abuse
1:13
She recalled quote he would smash me in my head knock me over drag me kick me stomp me in the head if I was down When asked how often she was abused she said quote too frequently In 2023 Combs and Ventura
1:26
released, reached rather an eight figure settlement one day after she accused him of
1:30
rape and abuse in a civil suit. The now infamous video of Combs kicking and dragging her down a
1:36
hotel hallway in 2016 is considered a key piece of evidence. Defense lawyers admitted Combs could
1:42
be violent, but maintained that everything was consensual, adding that nothing he did
1:47
amounted to sex trafficking or racketeering. Deanna Paula, former New York prosecutor not associated with this case, weighed in on the testimony
1:56
It was compelling and emotional and impactful testimony to hear her go through the course
2:03
of their relationship from start to almost finish. All of this at the end of the day is not whether or not he was a domestic abuser or a good
2:11
person or engage in this type of sexual behavior, that's not sex trafficking
2:16
And that doesn't make him a racketeer. Cassie will continue testifying today
2:22
Lawyers, though, for Combs have yet to cross examine her, which will allow them to challenge
2:27
her credibility or possibly even poke holes in her accounts of what happened
2:32
For now, though, we're live here in lower Manhattan. Dan, it's Shawnee back to you. So much interest in this trial
2:38
Brayella, thank you for that report
