Meteorologist Audrey Puente joins us now with a look at what Con Ed's control room
0:08
The behind the scenes, Audrey, is very interesting. Very exciting too. You know, Con Edison is powering up for summer of high demand and extreme weather
0:16
And today, they invited meteorologists to its Manhattan headquarters for a behind the scenes look at how it's preparing the grid to keep New Yorkers cool and connected
0:25
Con Edison shared how it has invested $2.35 billion to strengthen its electric delivery system across all five boroughs and Westchester County
0:35
Officials say the upgrades are designed to handle rising demand driven by hotter weather, excuse me, hotter temperatures and severe weather
0:42
Upgrades include new electric networks in Manhattan, reinforced systems in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens, storm proofing in Staten Island and $23 million in improvements throughout Westchester
0:54
Con Ed is also offering up to $4,000 for home insulation upgrades and $85 rebates for smart thermostats
1:01
Programs are also in place for low- and moderate-income households, along with flexible billing and payment plans as well
1:08
So they're really covering it all. Customers can prepare for hot weather now by signing up for outage alerts, enrolling in rebate programs, and using energy wisely during peak hours
1:20
And of course, for more information, you can just head to coned.com to sign up for all those great incentives

They're doing that so that people will learn to conserve energy, of course, and save some money
