French far right's bet on local elections falls short

For the extreme right National Rally, formerly the National Front, the municipal elections were supposed to confirm its national momentum at the local level. But the gamble didn’t totally pay off. While the party’s vote count doubled in some medium-sized cities like Narbonne and Lens, it came up short in major cities, notably in the southern city of Toulon.
