0:02
hey everyone it's Mike here from Filter
0:04
grade and today I have a little tutorial
0:06
for all the street and urban
0:07
photographers out there so if you find
0:09
yourself taking a lot of pictures in the
0:11
city or in urban environments this might
0:13
be helpful to you basically we're going
0:15
to create a faded sort of Moody tone to
0:17
your images and here's a little preview
0:21
like so as you can see it adds a lot of
0:23
color to the shadows and brings out some
0:25
of the texture in this photo and it can
0:28
be really useful if you're just trying
0:29
to have a nice look on some of your
0:31
photos in the city so to get started I
0:34
recommend opening your image in raw and
0:36
editing the light first if you take uh
0:38
photos on a DSLR if not just bring it
0:41
right into Photoshop and then you can
0:42
start here so the first thing we're
0:44
going to do is create an adjustment
0:45
layer and that adjustment layer will be
0:48
a curves layer um the curves help bring
0:51
out some of the light and color in this
0:52
image so we're going to start by
0:54
clicking right about here and dragging
0:57
up to about there and as you can see
1:00
that brightens the image quite a bit a
1:01
little bit too much then click the top
1:04
point and drag it about 1/3 of the way
1:07
down this sort of Blends the light uh in
1:10
the image as a whole and then finally
1:12
click here and drag this point down to
1:16
sort of straighten this curve out at the
1:18
bottom so that it's more gradual and
1:20
this makes sure that the image doesn't
1:21
get blown out too much and blends the
1:23
color a lot so that's it for the curves
1:26
adjustment next create a uh photo filter
1:30
adjustment layer and turn the and switch
1:33
from warming filter to sepia and then
1:35
change the density to about
1:38
45% and this will just add a nice sepia
1:40
tone to your image but it's a little too
1:42
harsh right now so bring it double click
1:44
your photo filter layer and bring it
1:48
opacity and then it adds just a nice
1:50
subtle tint to the image so it's not too
1:52
powerful but it's just enough to give it
1:54
something uh after that click the
1:57
adjustment layer again and this time
1:58
we're going to select brightness
2:01
contrast now for this you're going to
2:03
just very simple adjustment just turn up
2:06
brightness to four and contrast to -3
2:09
and that's all you have to do and then
2:12
finally we're going to create a
2:14
selective color adjustment layer and
2:16
this is where you get those deep tones
2:18
in the image uh we're just going to play
2:20
with the whites neutrals and blacks for
2:22
this image but you can adjust every
2:23
single level of color with Selective
2:25
colors which is kind of cool um to start
2:28
go to the blacks and we're going to turn
2:29
the Canan up to about eight and then
2:33
everything else below that will just be
2:36
1% next adjust the neutrals uh we're
2:40
going to turn Canan up to three this
2:44
one and then finally in the whites we're
2:47
just going to adjust Canan to -10 and
2:50
yellow to 10 and that'll be it for
2:53
that and then I know I said finally but
2:56
there's actually one more effect you
2:57
want to add um click the adjustments
2:59
panel and then then click
3:01
Vibrance and we're just going to turn
3:03
the Vibrance up to about eight and the
3:05
saturation to -5 and this will just
3:08
boost the Vibrance in the image and then
3:09
turning saturation to neg5 helps avoid
3:12
oversaturating an image and it gives it
3:14
a slightly uh toned look which is nice
3:19
photography and then after that you can
3:21
close that and we'll group the layers up
3:23
and that's about it for the street photo
3:25
effect so let me just turn this on and
3:29
off against so you can see what it looks
3:31
like so here's before sort of just a
3:34
regular image and then here's after with
3:36
the tones applied as you can see it adds
3:38
some nice shadows and texture to an
3:40
image and it can really help with your
3:41
street photography so I hope you enjoyed
3:44
this tutorial uh if you have any
3:45
questions feel free to leave a comment
