week this is the sequel to The Athena now the Athena was a project that was run on Kickstarter or or some kind of

changers of the future but there's a few things this does that other printers don't that are going to make user

experience a lot easier going forward for those of you who've been watching the channel you might be aware I've been

alluding to somebody I've been talking to for months who's schooling me on 3D

printing and how it actually works but that person is a guy called Nico Martin

the guy behind the ideas of Concepts 3D and this is the next Generation so not

only do we have a heated chamber and a heated vat this bit here is for a large carbon block where you can put whatever

carbon in you want in this little tray which is removable and that goes into this part of the printer you've then got

your time-lapse camera with a sensible built-in light and the time-lapses are actually recording vertically so

normally you'll get a wide screen and it'll record this way but on this one the time lapses are actually recording

in 9x6 not 16x9 you've also got a progress bar here which tells you the

progress of the print something that I like to see from a distance so I can see roughly how long I've got left on my

print or at least the progress you've got this light up bar here which is also a status bar telling you the status of

the printer which it can determine from the pressure sensitivity in the plate and these guys really are pushing

pressure sensitivity to the next level and that's the sort of thing that's going to be you know really big in the

future of 3D printing and unlike some of the other things we've seen this isn't the future of 3D printing years away

this is looking at 2025 and we're going to be able to get our hands on it but the best feature is something that I was

speaking to Nico about and they've actually implemented into it so you know how machines now you get like your RF

tests and your multi-exposure tests well this one takes it to the next level because one it's not janky they've built

in the exposure tests specifically the ones from Derek from j3d a channel that

if you don't know you need to check it out and what this does is not only does it have the built-in exposure tests but

by working with Derek directly the UI will actually let you set the exposure

time and the exposure increment and things like that on here once you've run this test it will actually then show you

how to read the test on the UI how to choose which one is the best result of

all the six exposures you've done and then you tell the printer what the best exposure times were and then in those

exposure times it then creates the resin profile for the material and you set

that on the printer itself so you get your bottle you put a bottle in you tell the printer what the bottle is they will

be doing profiles built into the printer based on a lot of user experience and

essentially the community from a lot of people who feed back to it you'll be able to get your own resin dial it in

using the UI specifically following the steps you'll be told how to read it and

tell which one the best exposure time is you feed that back into the printer for

your resin and that can feed back to Concepts 3D in order to tell them what people are having success with and

they'll be able to gather the success data based on the pressure sensitivity of when or where or if things fail

during a print on a plate and all of it again is temperature control but two things that really stand out to me more

than anything are its look like one thing I absolutely love is this gold

from the concepts 3D booth and I've got to be honest that one's got me thinking more than anything now as many of you

know I've been quite a fan of the where am I going I've been quite fan of the hay gears printers because what I like

about them is the fact that they are no nonsense and easy to use you don't have to worry about the resin settings you

just plug it in and go but I understand that people have been quite upset with those machines mainly due to the fact

that well they're locked down and you've got to use your own proprietary resin now at the moment that's the only choice for us if you want easy then you've

pretty much only got that Ro but with Concepts 3D and what they're trying to do like L have tried this for a while as

well in their profiles but it's based on reasoning of people's opinion and the

majority of us and I put myself in this category aren't so educated as to what

the best settings are for a resin printer concept 3D because they're keeping the resin profile the the

exposure profile on the actual printer itself and you don't need to put it in the slicer what it means is if you turn

up with a material let's say material X and you've never used it before

hopefully there will already be slicer settings on the printer for that material and you just select the

material and go and this is for any material in the world but if it's not there you can put that in and say I've

got this material and it'll probably be like brand model and and then maybe yeah because I know batches change what it

means is that you can put a profile onto that machine by saying oh it doesn't

exist already run me through the tests you then get know how to read the

results and determine which ones are best the printer then creates a profile

for you and then that data goes back to the concepts 3D database and in the

concepts 3D database they can then use that to inform the next person and then they'll be able to continually improve
