hey I'm peachy and we're about to find out to see if Pat can talk
0:06
hello he's got a cold everybody he's got a chest infection yeah it's pretty bad
0:11
and today we are joined by Rachel hi the Warhammer girl yeah hi welcome to the
0:17
channel thank you I'm very excited to be on a bit tired yeah uh yeah so sorry everyone uh for my parents I've had two
0:24
hours sleep and I've just been working and driving for what seems like my entire life so I don't look my best
0:31
right now but do I ever look good no that was fine went to Mansfield I mean that's true
0:36
I mean I've been there it's not a great place I uh I cycled through it once
0:42
did you lose your wheels halfway through no no just suddenly stop at travelizing
0:47
your wheels are going yeah yeah I mean well obviously I mean Nottingham
0:54
Nottingham has a bit of a bad rep as well doesn't it depends whereabouts that's it like well I think about 15
1:01
years ago there was a few incidents of gun growing yeah I've
1:07
heard this actually and then again you are struggling I might have to give up
1:12
um or just be quiet well we are here to talk to rage though yeah just nod yeah it's like a comedy element that I
1:19
probably won't bring so at least it keeps it interesting all right or I'll um I'll just whisper a lot are you yeah
1:27
you just go for like your Clint Eastwood Vibes yeah
1:32
whilst I'm talking I'll see I'll see if I can go through one anecdote yeah yeah
1:38
is my dad watches the show and he said to me a few times Jesus
1:45
um he's like you you need to get some uh
1:51
some women as guests and interview them and then you're our first first woman on
1:58
the podcast and then everyone will be like why why was Pat Whispering all the time when there was a
2:06
woman on the show it was really shy he's so weird I know for a fact you don't have a cold
2:12
so you can quit the ACT yeah yeah it's me very normally talks unfortunately it's really hard yeah
2:18
speak up the speaker it's terrible so I'll come in and out yeah and then we'll
2:24
see what happens we've got questions we'll be touching on some Patron questions near the end as well uh cool our patrons look lovely they have all
2:29
sorts around you've had a bit of a peruses to make sure there's nothing weird I was very scared but I was like
2:35
oh God what am I going to be asked all sorts I mean I'm very open as well so
2:40
like if you ask a dodgy question I'll probably answer it and then be like heresy am I not sweating yeah okay
2:46
someone someone clever will suddenly go brother or heretic yes it'd be fine as
2:51
you've already discovered we often get known for this Channel or this this podcast called sidetracked because we
2:57
start a topic and we just go off that's the best way many tangents will happen yeah that's
3:05
the best way so Rachel hobby yeah What attracted you to painting toy sandwiches
3:12
I think like I've always liked art I've always been Arty like I'm the Creator
3:17
side like music writing and stuff and I think also I'd heard that it was good for
3:24
mental health if that's something that like I struggle with and I actively use like
3:29
my hobby presence to try and like yeah yeah like promote mental health and
3:35
stuff so it was a bit of a mix of both and also just because I didn't really I
3:41
wasn't really doing much else so I was like I'm gonna give this a go and to be fair it was never something I thought I would
3:48
get this into I was like oh I'll do like a couple of Minis and that'll be it and then before I knew it I had like an
3:53
entire necron's Army and I was like what have I become um but yeah so it's so addictive but
3:59
again like it's not something I expected to get into but I'm really glad I did because it's like a massive part of my
4:04
life like it's almost like sometimes feel like not a second job but because
4:12
it's actually something I want to do and it's fun but it's like takes up a lot of my time but by choice yeah definitely
4:18
dominates my my personal I know yeah probably Mrs Peach will be like yeah it dominates a lot more than what it
4:24
probably should I actually tried getting my wife into it years ago when probably a couple of years into when we first met
4:30
so this is like going to like 96 97 kind of time a long time ago you're gonna tell me you weren't even born there no I
4:35
was four okay that's all right yeah at least I was alive no I don't have this conversation people like I wasn't born
4:40
then yeah I would have been eight cool that's all right I feel really old now
4:47
um so I think he was that old um yeah it's the bald heads it's like Picard effect I won't ask your age no it's 43. well I
4:56
think well done it was 43 in July oh it's you yeah sorry still 42 I'm still on the younger side of
5:03
43. if you can call it that yeah tried getting the wife into hobby many years
5:09
ago uh and it panned out that she's not really interested in playing toy soldiers but she's very very good at
5:14
painting Toy Soldiers well she won't do it no it's a shame she won't get it yeah yeah well it's not she won't do it she
5:19
appreciates the skill she loves Louise and stuff um but I gave her a rat skin one of the
5:25
old necomunder models you paint it really neatly and she did a little swallow tattoo on his arm oh my God I
5:31
couldn't even freehand that's amazing and I'm like no I'm kind of no I'm glad
5:37
because then yeah you would be old news everyone be like who's pitching he's like who's this guy
5:43
yeah well Mrs P yeah Mrs Peach is uh so necrons why necrons there because
5:49
there's a few people that are like quite passionate about necrons for many reasons but I honestly
5:55
I I don't even know just big robots I think so I like that there so I used to
6:03
be like obsessed with like ancient Egypt stuff and like I sort of like saw the resemblance sort of and also they looked
6:10
quite easy to like build and paint like they're not really that like what people say they are
6:17
spindly but it's not like for example actually my first ever Army not many people know this was actually Lumina oh
6:23
wow bought an entire lumenth box because I was like they look gorgeous built one
6:28
and that was it I was like that's too hard yeah like now I could probably do it but like as a complete business
6:33
beginner if you're going to get into the hobby do not start with Luminaire I can 100 sympathize that because I looked at
6:41
them and I did some paint um videos for warmer TV and I was like
6:46
trying to make these as easy as I can at battle ready level so I was like this is really hard and I thought you know what I would like I like doing skirmish games
6:53
now as opposed to big full-on games and stuff and I was like I'll do lumine left warband I've done one model did it's a test model for Instagram not touch the
7:00
rest because I don't want to because there's so much detail it's just like it's too overweight I just look at them
7:05
and I'm like I wish I had the patience I'm not a very I don't have much patience like I like to get painting
7:12
done quickly like in a good way yeah but I can't like something like that I'll
7:18
just get bored or not bored but frustrated I'd be like I want it to be done or at least look half done yeah
7:24
after three weeks I'm just chucking a question then slap shop
7:33
is a type of a style of painting um and Rob from on his wargamer did like a
7:39
little video on it um a lot of people Chuck some stick at him saying like he's it's a technique that's been around for
7:44
a long time they're starting the other he just gave it a name it's a cool name but it's where you spray things black your driver's in like a light gray then
7:51
maybe a white and then you just put contrasts over those areas and it just blocks out the clips of really quick and efficient way
7:56
so you Snapchat yeah so yeah good I slapped off yeah I didn't even know it here we go you've heard it here first
8:03
you've got a name uh they're calling the new name for it
8:10
yeah it got some sticker look last year end of last year something like that yeah I think of the video it's people
8:16
like you can't call it though you can't claim it badly remember this it was drama for about two months and then
8:23
everyone forgotten got over it so as an army painter you have loads of
8:31
techniques to get things painted yes and some of those are a bit convoluted some of those like using airbrushes and some of those like dry brushing and doing
8:37
different effects and like yeah I guess like xenathil what are dry brushes which is kind of what rubber dumb
8:42
um and I think some we've found it probably insulting that he was given a name to a technique that they know and
8:48
love and use all the time yeah and he wasn't coining it as his own he's just giving it a name yeah and just making a
8:54
fun sort of video out of it of like yeah there's something like some Masters and it just bothered some people that he was
9:01
trying to take it as his name which he wasn't yeah and it went everywhere yeah and but what I like is it's given that
9:08
effect a name yeah uh so you get like not not non-metallic metal anymore it's NMM and then you get like OSL so object
9:16
Source lightning if no one knows that and then you obviously got your xenophile sort of highlight and stuff like they've all got names so people
9:22
know what you mean when you say it and now chop slap then now chop slap yeah coined by Rachel yeah yeah I expect that
9:29
you drive to go viral yeah yeah and if it's gonna be very sad we'll be having a new drama Farm episode 2 on the on this
9:34
war game I reckon to be fair like I'm I like love finding
9:40
like sorry that's fine but
9:45
um I am I'm all about like finding the quickest way to paint something but also
9:52
like making it look good yeah so like with my neck ones I think this actually helped me get into the hobby was like I
9:58
found a really effective way of painting them it was literally like spraying them roon or brass then going over in
10:05
contrast and dry brushing that's it yeah and like obviously with necrons doing the Warriors I was like if I hadn't
10:10
found that I probably wouldn't be in the hobby because I would have just been like this is too much do you plan to add
10:17
to your necrons maybe I still like quite frequently I like miss them I know that sounds really weird but I don't know
10:24
it's like Nostalgia now I mean I it was only like a year and a half ago so it wasn't that long ago I'm like that with
10:31
armies um what I'm gonna say is you need to get some room or brush because it's going out of stock because they're not gonna yeah I know taking it off taking
10:38
off sale are they really no that's like oh no I don't know why it's like it's one it's a great metallic so yeah if you
10:45
if you need uh you need to be using it at the moment yeah I thought that was uh
10:50
common news no no one's told me secret news I've heard there's a few times from different people that it's it's been
10:55
replaced because there's like a a thing with Workshop what's really annoys man I don't know why and I I'm not like super
11:02
negative about Workshop but this thing bothers me only 12 sprays at any one given time like oh come on there's so
11:07
many companies out there have like thousands of different sprays and colors yeah Dean maybe yes 12 is like the max in the
11:14
warehouse and on the store and stuff so the I guess there's a new color and one has to go and runal Brass is it not only
11:19
is going bulk buyer yeah if you want to continue with your neck around this house because I need to get some more what's really annoying is that like that
11:25
that's I was just thinking do I have any Spurs and like that's one of the only paints where I only have one of them so
11:31
the other day I basically like bought some like nice shelves for like my hobby area to put some paints on
11:37
and I was like going through literally found seven about in Blacks oh I'm not gonna get into that I say about
11:46
it yeah I do as well yeah oh thank God I mean I know that's wrong yeah because
11:52
they did there pop band Professor isn't it that's the official but I always say
11:57
that I don't know easier to say a bad one yeah yeah here's
12:04
a bad one exactly it's a bad one yeah it's a nice way I like that I never thought about that one but he is yeah
12:09
it's not he's not a professor or a pop singular Community it's definitely not it's Abba Don
12:14
so don is like a professor isn't it is it I think so yeah oh right there was a
12:19
a Rastafarian sort of poem called the the Oxford Don I think it's a
12:26
um a way of describing a professors in Jamaica as a Don I believe that's that's
12:31
why I'm learning a lot I could be wrong people in the comments will be like yes that I remember that poem because we did
12:36
it at school years ago I thought I do remember some stuff from school Don you're like a gangster there's also
12:42
gangster I suppose you could say pop gangster podcast yeah I went more Rastafarian Professor
12:48
yeah so um circling back to something you said um what was it a burden no no
12:57
um when you when you said you started the hobby to help like women mental
13:03
health um something I found when I started painting was
13:10
um it's I think one of the only things I can do uh incomplete silence and yeah and
13:18
forget that I'm doing it yeah um and that's I find that really calming
13:24
um like I'll start painting and even when I'm working so I need something on
13:30
in the background to like occupy my brain um but when I'm painting I'm like oh I
13:37
just sat here for four hours yeah and I didn't think about anything yeah um
13:42
is what's what's like your experience that you've had the same as that yeah so
13:47
oddly I actually had this happen the other day so I'm exactly the same like I always
13:53
have to like if I'm writing for example I have to have like fantasy music on yeah so because otherwise I can't like
13:59
get into the writing mood because I write fantasy stuff obviously um
14:05
[Music] epic Star Wars music interesting somehow
14:12
um yeah but yeah so I started like doing some painting and obviously as we all
14:18
know like time it's like a different time Dimension it's like you're like oh probably been half an hour it's like four hours later you're like how has
14:25
that much time passed and anyway so it's painting and then all of a sudden I was like this is in complete silence like I
14:32
I think I've done it before but not really like them become aware that I'm painting in complete science yeah but
14:38
it's weird how you can completely shut off yeah yeah I can't do that with anything else other than sleeping I find
14:43
it's like a reset button for me it's almost like a a form of meditation in a weird way yeah because yeah controlling
14:49
your breathing as well because of my of the things if my wife would sometimes sit with me or like Charlie yeah weirdly
14:55
they both sat around me sometimes like watching me paint all like chatting to me but but when we were a bit young
15:02
before we had Charlie she would sit and chat and like read a book and stuff I was painting and every now and again you know because you're controlling you
15:07
breathe then I'll be like that and then she'd be like you're right I'm like yeah why she's like what you
15:12
sound annoyed I was like no I'm breathing honestly Spencer does that to me he's like are you okay and I'm like what and
15:19
I'm not even aware I don't know he's like you're sighing really loudly and I'm just like no breathing we'll make great stuff because I've heard yeah
15:26
hold your breath as well like a really like hard Edge highlight
15:31
or something like really small you're just like yeah yeah and then you're like what am I going dizzy oh yeah
15:38
yeah it's the toilet breaks I could go for so we've done it here it's like I literally sat and filmed for a good
15:44
portion of the day stood up and went oh my God I really need them yeah it's like it's being trapped about it yeah yeah
15:50
can relate to that yeah um yeah the first video I made of myself
15:58
um was just full of me going like every I do doing Edge highlight and
16:06
then would be like it's weird is it when you see yourself do those things because you don't notice it until it's like like
16:12
a spence pointed out I like my life points out to me and stuff but yeah I wouldn't have a clue otherwise yeah
16:19
so uh you got into the hobby because you like painted you're creative
16:25
I'm gonna ask the question because I know a few of our patrons are what's it like being a lady in the hobby how have you found it it's very interesting yes I
16:31
bet that is the Diplomatic answer I'm going to give um to be fair it's
16:39
I quite enjoy like obviously there's like positives and negatives so we all know what the negatives are like I I
16:47
know that when like obviously you get like trolls and or like even people that are actually into the Hobby and just
16:52
can't stand that like you're a woman in the hobby especially if you've got like a big account as well it's just like it's a bit
17:00
it's hard to take it when you get comments like like I've had I mean this was a funny one everyone knows
17:06
apparently I'm only successful because of my hair so I mean really nothing have you not heard this oh I'm screwed yeah
17:13
now you've done it mate oh God yeah well carry on yeah I think
17:19
it's like things like that it's just I mean that's a funny one like that I genuinely laughed at that yeah but when
17:24
it's like a bit more harsh yeah it's just really frustrating because I put like and all you know like all the other
17:31
like female hobbyists do like put so much time and money into the hobby yeah
17:36
and it's like like why why is it that we can't do the
17:43
Hobby and why is it that people are like oh you're only successful because you're a woman and I get I do
17:49
I always try and like relate to whoever's making a negative comments try and understand it and I do understand it
17:57
in certain ways but equally just keep it your thoughts to yourself yeah but you
18:02
don't need to actively go on someone's profile most the people that leave me hate don't even follow me
18:07
and I'm just like why are you like taking time out of your day to come and insult someone but it's just the way of
18:13
social media yeah and it's interesting because um I probably won't articulated very well but I'll try
18:19
one of the things I find absurd about about the situation is let's say you
18:25
know because I've heard people say oh they only get a thousand likes because they're a female it's like yeah but they're not the ones doing the liking
18:32
yeah so it's not your fault yeah you're just the one doing the hobby like I'm doing a hobby there's certainly a I guess a percentage
18:40
of people out there that want to follow females yeah and whether for good reasons or bad reasons I don't know but
18:46
um I it's weird to blame you yeah you're not the issue here
18:52
um you're just a person like anyone else like leave me alone Yeah the more
19:00
opponents out there the better the more um different points of view of Creative Flair the better whether you're
19:08
reproductive organs are on the outside or the inside I don't think it matters no I think what matters is if people
19:13
enjoying the hobby yeah and yeah I find it really opposite recently I was chatting to an old colleague in warmer
19:20
TV and they've been putting up some stuff on stories on Tick Tock and
19:26
whatever and because there's no face it's audio they've got a lot of stick now and so you've got Lizzie and Emma's
19:32
videos they're just getting lots of hate oh really oh yeah yeah and it's like you know your painting's awful it's it's
19:39
terrible and unlike would they have done that when I
19:44
was still there or would they've still done it we're now still there and it was me because I'm taking it personally because I work with those guys and
19:49
taught them a few things but also a lot of that they're just as good at painting as I'm if not better so what why
19:56
suddenly this change in attitude and uh Direction because they don't have a face
20:01
anymore or because they're female I don't know it's just really interesting Dynamic and change that people more
20:06
people come out and getting quite nasty yeah about people's levels of painting and I've always thought that at the warmer TV
20:13
um tuition videos are to be accessible not because that's what every metal does
20:18
they do the box packaging which is like oh look at that that's amazing I wish I could do that you don't want that in a payment video yeah I completely agree
20:24
that's my opinion as well it's just like oh there's thanks for sharing that video on that thing I can never ever do that's the thing is like that's incredibly
20:30
intimidating like if you've got that level of like painting where it's like heavy metal like box art style it's like
20:37
even I would look at that and just be like I'm not even going to try and follow it because I'm never going to
20:42
achieve it like so it is like I get it it's all about it being accessible I'm probably gonna get some hate for making
20:49
oh don't worry we get it all started I think it is what I find really
20:54
interesting actually is the hate towards women tends to come in
21:00
like like I don't know all of a sudden it gets really bad and then there's absolutely nothing like everyone's
21:05
really nice yeah it's really weird so it's good I think it has lessened
21:11
however there seems to be this weird pattern to it where it's like all of a
21:16
sudden it's like loads of people are getting hate and I know a lot of people get it consistently I'm not saying that like you know whatever but it just tends
21:24
to be like that and then it just drops off and there's peace and I'm like oh my God like it's changed like everyone's nice
21:31
now and then all of a sudden you'll get something else but I I think it's it ha it's gonna happen with everything
21:36
especially again like depending on your reach on social media obviously the bigger the reach the more likely you are
21:44
to get like hate and stuff and I think that's something I've accepted I'm very much
21:49
some things I do share because and I know a lot of people are like oh just
21:56
ignore it like just delete the comment block the person which I do sometimes yeah but equally why should I yeah take
22:03
it and not share it because also sharing it I then get a lot of like messages from women saying oh my God like I've
22:11
had like similar things and I just I do get the whole opinion of I'll just delete it and block yeah but yeah yeah I
22:19
think there's elements of both that are valid yeah
22:24
um like in the the chat show that Mew me and Peach did just the two of us
22:31
um we talked a little bit about that and the comments were quite interesting
22:37
um in and some people said like get great people on the internet
22:43
yeah I mean just delete it and and it's like I can un like you say try and put myself
22:50
in in their shoes yeah um apologies for the voice is so stupid I
22:57
love it um it must be so difficult to listen to listen it was great it would be at home
23:03
like trying to sort them up yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah really distorted weird
23:10
um and and like to a certain extent I guess the hate is
23:16
gonna stop um but then also I think as creators
23:23
um it's good to talk about um so that people can I guess don't feel
23:30
alone in yeah in their situations actually and I think it's important like whilst I agree that the like delete just
23:39
deleting ignoring blocking like that is like a coping mechanism style but
23:45
equally that can might be misinterpreted by some people as dismissing their emotional
23:52
reaction to hate because everyone's got like like some people's skin is thicker than others yeah yeah I and also like
24:00
sometimes I'm absolutely fine laugh it off like don't care yeah other times
24:05
like if someone's going through like beep outside of like the hobby you're in
24:11
a bad mood like if I'm then like having a bad day and then read something obviously I'm gonna get upset so I think
24:16
like whilst it's good to say to people look like you're gonna get it just like delete it also like Provide support and
24:24
just people need to sort of understand that everyone's different everyone's got different thickness of skin
24:31
um so it doesn't work for everyone and certainly like people have seen I've shared stuff but that's just because
24:38
like why why shouldn't I I'm getting that hey and I want to show that it does
24:43
happen and that also if people want to message me about it then we can chat about it and yeah yeah yeah I mean it's
24:51
like I.E my coping mechanism a lot of the time and there are some comments that do bother me and I look back over
24:57
and I'm like don't respond to that do I feel and something I've said to you Pat is like if I respond to someone I'll
25:03
respond to it as me with my name on it yeah because if I don't and I like I don't know use another account or
25:09
whatever it feels a bit it's like if I'm not proud enough to stand up and say that thing yeah I probably shouldn't say
25:15
it um so if I if I do haven't respond or like kick back at something I'll give it
25:20
a lot of thought and what I've found a lot of the time for me is I'll read it I'm like that's bother me I'll close my phone do some stuff around
25:27
the house play with the kid or whatever and then maybe like an hour or two later I've calmed down a bit and I've forgotten about it bath time bedtime
25:34
story time go to bed do some hobby whatever I've forgotten about it and it's not bothering me anymore and then
25:39
you know I'm fine yeah but then sometimes I might see it again that that whole emotional thing comes
25:46
back I'm like that does bother me a lot but um and what annoys me a bit is when
25:52
people use their personal experiences and their personal way the coping mechanisms to sort of like like what
25:59
just do this yeah and it's like that's cool you may have had a robust upbringing and you can deal with this
26:05
stuff but you shouldn't invalidate anyone's feelings yeah because you know you have different levels I
26:11
mean what is a bad day for a person will be different for different people like someone being a policeman having to deal
26:17
with a horrible accident is a bad day for policeman yeah but someone that's had a different day and coming home to
26:23
like some horrible comments is mentally yeah a similar sort of effect on there put that person
26:30
out of time if that makes sense I'm not saying that mopping up someone from a road accident is the same as like a mean
26:35
common internet but personality wise and yeah you're feeling at that moment and how vulnerable you might be at that point yeah exactly is it is the same
26:43
level of emotion it's just different situations different will bring in different experiences like so don't you
26:49
validate any yeah I think that's like what I struggle with sometimes is because like I understand that when
26:55
everyone like you know what I will say is that the like positivity and like
27:01
love especially when I share stuff like the response from like the community is
27:06
is literally have me in tears like it's yeah like in a good way yeah
27:12
um but I think that obviously I've got I have a lot of comments just saying I'll
27:17
you know just ignore it blah blah but I think I do sometimes struggle with that because like you're saying like I've
27:23
said like it then makes me feel that I'm being like stupid or reacting
27:29
um whilst actually like my feelings are valid like everyone's feelings are valid like everyone responds in different ways
27:36
so I think it is a really difficult balance But ultimately I know that someone's saying that to me
27:42
is their way of showing support I know they're not invalidating my feelings like as in in a malicious way
27:48
um so I think that's important to remember as well is that I mean some people come across like as really blunt
27:53
in messages but that's just how they write messages yeah yeah I'm guilty for that sometimes and I'm like I'll send a
27:59
message oh that came out really weird you said I was still on for Thursday I was like yes oh God that sounded really
28:05
rude yeah yeah I was like to be bad I didn't even like really realize and then I think I replied and just put okay and
28:12
then I was like yeah we're even now yeah they're saying yes
28:18
I always hated emojis um growing up and I never I never used
28:23
them but multiple people said to me oh you seem
28:28
really angry in your messages and just using full stops yeah yeah um so now I'm
28:36
like okay and thumbs up and all that jazz um just so people know I'm not mad mad
28:42
at them emojis are weird so this is completely on a tangent but it's quite funny so you're in the right place like
28:50
I've had so many conversations where like people interpret emojis different oh yeah and like so for example this is
28:58
so weird so my dad like he's not in my life really and I don't have a relationship with him at all
29:03
and like whenever he messages me my half brother or half sister every message he
29:09
ends with a winky face and we're just like mate you're coming across very
29:14
weird it's so awkward it's like he's like I'll be like oh what are you up to
29:20
on the rare occasionally message he's like I'm off to the beach wink I'm like okay goodbye and then like two years
29:26
later like I'm just like I haven't smoked you since because that was really weird awkward yeah okay yeah I do feel
29:32
it is it's like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics sometimes and I'm
29:38
like what because I talk to her songs a lot in like hats and stuff and like I'm like is that is that too creepy having
29:44
like a winky face maybe I'll do the eyes closed the Tonga on it looks a bit weird maybe I'll just do like a smiley face
29:49
and thumbs up but then that looks a bit sort of like lame so I'm there trying to work out what's the right level and sometimes you get them back and I've
29:56
literally had to Google so what does this emoji mean I've had people ask that I've sounded
30:01
emoji and they're like what do you mean by that yeah and I'm just like oh it's this they're like Oh I thought it was something else yeah yeah it might just
30:07
not bother to be honest yeah but basically what I would advise everyone is just don't send Winks like yeah very
30:14
rare scenarios where that will come across yeah unless it's innuendo like yeah
30:23
oh God close Peg yeah right yeah it's lying yeah probably
30:30
so going back to the the positive um elements of it and um so you painted
30:39
The Lion and I got in Wacom yeah what did that feel like literally cried I was
30:45
so happy I was shaking for about two hours with pure joy I just like I never
30:52
I'm quite like self-deprecating as a person and but I truly like never ever
30:58
even deep down thought I would get into the article or trust me it's hard I struggled to get when I work there
31:06
trust me I was like I did all sorts of things like now we're going to have these with people
31:13
because you don't have great hair that's true he's not got into it actually I think you're funny I do you just can't see it I've grown it out
31:20
Illuminati confirmed that's good yeah but yeah it was like literally amazing
31:28
um I'm really really grateful I'm grateful like again like I never expected to have the opportunity to like
31:35
do preview paint but honestly I've never expected any of this yeah and I do feel I struggle with feeling like an imposter
31:41
yeah to be fair and that's not just because I'm a woman in the hobby that's purely like I just don't feel good I
31:48
don't feel like I'm good enough to be like where I am with it um not that we chat about this didn't we
31:55
because I was saying like you're going to salute you're at the the panel for women yeah I'm gonna be on the hobby Heroes panel on that's the old castle
32:01
roads and I feel like an imposter going to that because I'll just be something like can someone ask me a question
32:06
please how could you feel like an imposter base like yeah it's very like subject isn't
32:13
it again going back to everyone like feels differently and I think naturally like the majority of people are like to
32:21
some extent quite self-deprecating and like don't believe they deserve stuff yeah
32:26
um but then you have like I think so many people are like no you do but it still doesn't go in all my most of my
32:33
managers in the past have always referred to me as a flagellant because I'm just there constantly like just whipping myself again I'm not good
32:38
enough this is awful I put stuff in the cabinet like when I was in retail would like get
32:43
like I don't know Lord of the Rings box set and I painted up that evening and I thought was all right and they were like oh my God it's amazing I was going
32:49
straight in the cabinet did you do that in like four hours in the evening I just want to do without just like painting but then they're like oh I can see like
32:56
a win's eyes it looks like she's had a stroke on this side because it's like One Eye's a bit bigger than the other or whatever that's the thing is you see the
33:02
money detail that nobody sees um like so obviously submitted the line to be
33:10
put in the article yeah and I'm not going to say where the mistake is but there is something on it oh
33:17
is it one of those things because I do this with Instagram right is I paint the model look at it really proud of it take
33:24
a photo look at the photo and then go into like Snapseed and like change the auto balance the white balance on it so
33:31
it's a bit nicer because sometimes my lights can be a bit funky look at it zoom in happy get me a post written got
33:37
me tags on there post it hair on his head yeah it's one of those yeah it's something I only realize uh when it had
33:45
been published yeah yeah luckily no one said anything but it's so oh so bad did
33:51
you take the photos and send it or did they title yeah photo yeah um but yeah it's like everyone's gonna
33:58
ask me this now aren't they yeah yeah people it's been like Spot the Difference between it on your uh article now I couldn't believe it I was like how
34:05
it's basically a bit that I've missed I'm sure people probably have noticed it I'm to be fair it's it's not that bad
34:12
because it's to do with the armor but the arm was black anyway it's basically just an area where I've forgotten to
34:19
even do anything to make you feel better there are so many examples of heavy metal paint jobs that have missed a bit
34:25
and this has happened in by Photoshop no okay I filmed much we're talking like Imperial Eagles on
34:32
guns or belt buckles or like a purity seal and it's like been left black undercoated because they didn't notice
34:38
it because sometimes you get model blind right I refer to it as model blind like there's an old line there's a mold line yeah I'll clean that up and you can yeah
34:44
you can't paint you just want to become blind to the fat existed yeah and I remember I it was like a piece of
34:50
scenery it was two parts and it was a resin one because we didn't know the Plastics at the time there was this and I kept putting filler in it and when
34:57
filler dries it shrinks a bit and it kept shrinking back in so I'd put more fill it kept shrinking back in I was like oh I've got to say I'll spray it
35:03
and then it looked fine but it wasn't fully dry and I carried on painting and it shrunk about Dave Andrews would walk
35:08
past it don't forget about that mold line oh yeah I will and I kept forgetting about it until it went just
35:14
before I went on to because we used to have a table we used to put on it's like that mold lines still I'm like oh my god oh no don't take it away but yeah heavy
35:20
metal done that they've missed so much stuff it's called like object permians or something I don't know where I
35:26
I think that's it maybe Google is where like you're so used to looking at something you then like either
35:33
forget that it's there as an object let me see it again and you're like oh my God I forgot yeah whatever was there I
35:41
feel like because you're so focused on the mini that you just do miss stuff because
35:46
you're looking at it for such a long amount of time but you also have a process right because in your head and this is what I've I certainly have is
35:52
like I'm doing this stage for these things oh there's that thing I need to get back to but in my head I've still
35:57
got this order of other things I'm going to work through yeah now outside of that order yeah that's got to get my head
36:03
back to that I'm always doing that yeah God awful for it it's like if I have like a unit of 40 figures and I'm working my way through if I go and get a
36:09
cup of tea and come back down that inevitably misses spear Carolyn yeah yeah and I have to go back and yeah and
36:15
also when you do that you look at it and you're like how have I missed it so long yeah an entire unpainted back of an arm
36:23
or something you're like what like how have I you've possibly done that yeah because after you've checked the mini as
36:29
well you're like oh yeah perfect and then you're like there is literally no paint on this at all yeah yeah it's yeah
36:35
it's glad like other people's Studio I mean there's um is it in the
36:41
well I'm a photography when they blew blue tack arms on and then there's
36:46
photos of them all falling off yeah because they're on those lights the heat just like you know makes it really attacking just pulls away yeah so
36:53
there's been so many times where and I used to feel for the photographers because they'll be like doing their best and then that arm will fall off and they
36:59
have to go downstairs yeah you know is this the right angle because it has to be at a certain angle because it's like been done a shot on white oh a 360 for
37:07
the website so it has to make sure the head is at a particular angle I'm just like just paint more of them and glue them on just make your teeth bigger and
37:14
glue them on yeah so the guys don't keep having to like go back down and go what's the exact position for this head I mean I I I'm gonna
37:21
tell something now which will probably would have got me into trouble oh when I was the photography manager and we had
37:28
to get models fixed by heavy metal if they got broken by the photographers but because the photographers were doing so
37:33
much stuff for so much capacity sometimes like the odd arm or the odd head would fall off and they'd come up
37:39
to me like can you glue this back on because they did they started making like a note of like whenever a
37:44
photographer come down and then it became almost like a Performance Management thing oh that photograph it's like sometimes it wasn't even that
37:49
photography it was just just inevitable that things get broken right yeah so they come up could you glue it's just
37:55
like a spear tip or it's a head I glued a head on in the wrong angle oh no people came I was like do you know if
38:02
anyone's Clues like I have no idea what you're talking about deny deny deny I know the rest of the
38:08
photography now we don't know if they're about it mate because what would happen is we'd have to like fess up that we
38:13
were fixing lots of stuff because just the capacity of what we had to do yeah we didn't want to lose that because I
38:19
didn't screw it up that often it was just once but that one time could have like stopped us from getting like
38:24
photography done quicker was it like really badly at the moment we're talking like I said it like that it was like
38:30
that oh okay but someone there at least it wasn't backwards yeah I've done that yeah so where's this head
38:39
supposed to go because it's like an uncommon what the figure was now it had like a weird shaped head and I think I'd done it like it was upside down or the
38:46
wrong way around the first time I ever tried to
38:52
build custodies I was trying to glue the torsos on upside down oh
38:59
oh yeah yeah I've done that with like these battle droids from Star Wars Legion I did the wrong way around and I couldn't get the backpacks and couldn't
39:04
work out why and I was like I think I've done that a few times and
39:10
stuff and then you're like why on Earth did I think that went that way round yeah yeah but you do you just like you
39:16
know you I tend to build things in like product lines and stuff it's just the way if you struggle building to be honest something that I'm slowly getting
39:23
better at but it's I'm very much more painting inside the building yeah is
39:29
that being in a a house of two hobbyists is that something you can get uh your
39:36
partner to do he refuses to do it yeah it's good though because it's made me like
39:42
like get a lot better at it um and I because I used to absolutely
39:47
hate it honestly I was like it just almost ruined the hobby for me I was just like I actually like got one of my
39:53
mates to build so he was like giving me some terminators and I was like can you
40:00
do me a favor I was like can you build them I need to bless them you built them and sent them to me I was like this is amazing I need to hire someone to do all
40:07
my building but I think like once you get more used to it yeah it's a bit easier but I'm definitely just I prefer
40:13
just painting I think I use building more as like a break in between painting
40:19
just because like sometimes it's like we're painting of so so hyper focused when I was building you can like relax a
40:25
bit more and like you're not like hunt over your desk so I must be a bit of a dick then when it comes to that kind of
40:30
stuff because I always have this conversation a few weeks back because you were going to build some stuff for me uh well you did build some stuff for
40:36
it but yeah I had this with uh marketing when uh one of my managers like we'll hire someone to build models honestly I
40:42
like building myself because two things happen certainly for video if there's a mold line on there people think it's me
40:47
yeah uh and secondly if it's built wrong I'm gonna be really nice enough to get it rebuilt and spend time rebuilding it
40:53
so I'd rather just do it and also at the same time I can study the model and plan yeah so when I'm doing laundry videos I'm using that as planning time and
41:00
inevitably when someone else is offered to build stuff for me it's always had like something wrong of it but yours
41:06
didn't the only thing that you did wrong was you use plastic glue and not super glue
41:13
we have this argument it's like it's so funny because it's like plastically it's better because it melts the plastic I'm like yeah I agree and then we started
41:20
driving something just like your shoulders it's funny how like when you're building
41:26
some [ __ ] just don't stick glue but it's like it seems to be really random
41:32
like some bits I'm like yeah fine I'm like yeah that bit stuck and I'll then be like building another bit and the
41:37
entire mini will just break I remember like I was um streaming building it was
41:43
something Astra militarum can't remember now and as I was streaming the entire mini just like exploded so I got that on
41:51
video and I was like so that's the end of the stream uh goodbye that's terrible just it just like came apart classic
41:58
blue as it's it's merits for Sean I've used it a lot for like when I do ask him all the time because you have like the the one arm that's got to connect with
42:04
the other you need that kind of because if you super glue it it dries quite quickly yeah if you get that yeah yeah
42:09
exactly then there's a nightmare but I prefer using that super glue just in case I want to break things off or
42:14
change things I use I can't use it I just like use too much and it'll bursts outside so I'm just like I'll just use a
42:20
tiny little plastic glue brush yeah I think mine came from because we used to primarily build resins the main tool
42:26
that we used and I got so used to from a speed point of view using like the accelerant and super glue the it when it
42:32
came to like plastic kits I'd still follow that process because when you're in a painting team and you've got to get things done really quickly uh speed is
42:39
the key yeah yeah it takes a while yeah unless you plan your time but I suppose I could have you know
42:45
time management could have been improved all right Pat if we do have random cuts by the way it's because
42:51
I need a lip cell break my lips are dry yeah talking I find that
42:58
if I uh if I spend that hours talking I suddenly just like my I'm constantly
43:03
like drinking water oh yeah yeah
43:09
well no so I uh did have a question uh Pat's
43:17
coffin fit kind of uh jotted it out but it was going to be along the lines of um so you and your partner both
43:23
hobbyists yeah both play um so I so 40K I used to play it but we
43:30
just don't have the space really to play okay Spencer hasn't played it much he's more like underworlds yeah which I've
43:38
tried to learn I'm so bad at learning yeah that sounds really weird I'm bad at
43:44
learning games because I have to to learn I have to do something but then obviously when you learn a game you
43:49
can't do it so it takes ages um but we're definitely more like painting focus and our desks are like
43:56
next to each other and have like TV and it's like the best I was going to be angled at the lines of competitive play
44:01
use the most competitive but I suppose you could argue that with paintings like yeah do you like paint stuff and he's
44:06
like I don't know what there's no like there's never been any like competitiveness between us it's a very
44:12
healthy hobby relationship yeah um not to say everyone else is unhealthy
44:18
but like there's just never would like really supportive of each other
44:24
um which is really nice because I think it's easy I think everyone's like naturally a bit competitive and like
44:29
everyone's like naturally a bit jealous but oh yeah yeah there's just like none of that it's really nice yeah I'm super jealous of still because I mean she's
44:35
what I've been doing it two weeks since she's already nearly here trance down numbers oh yeah she's doing amazing oh
44:44
Bob we're super pleased for her she was so worried about like making the jump and like no one
44:50
following I was like you'd be fine everyone had the confidence around it to go you'll be fine trust me you'll nail
44:56
it you'll smash yourself oh I'm not sure one was if I don't I'm just like you'll be fine I had no doubts I was like this
45:02
is going to go like there was no doubt in my mind I was never like oh that's a risk I was like she is literally gonna
45:08
like absolutely smash it which obviously sure do it already is yeah she's doing
45:13
great numbers are awesome little teaser video then the uh Rainbow Warriors and the pragmatic sword yeah or
45:20
so Prismatic is that the way you say it I think it's Prismatic Prismatic yes because it's got Niner yeah
45:28
oh dear and I teach my kid how to read books at night in fact he does correct me because oh that's it I never knew
45:36
what I again many people will but like what graphenes are digraphs try graphs I was
45:43
just like what so diagraphs is like two letters like um two o's for book or it's like oh all
45:49
right um or like if it's air uh so like if you're saying like hair and you've got
45:54
AI so they're they're digress because it's two then you've got trigraphs where it's three so it might be like three
46:00
letters and and they're reading and stuff like I go daddy that's a trigraph and I'm like what you're five stop
46:07
educating your dad anyway and I'll like Mr letters like there's the you missed out there
46:13
okay by my own son who's great it's great to to see him
46:19
understand all this stuff and I guess I'm starting to understand a bit more as well but it was just like but my wife
46:24
pointed out okay well die means two and try means three I was like yes it does why didn't I make that connection
46:30
it's not it's not obvious all the time unless you she works at school so she's oh nice oh there we go you know
46:37
subjected this stuff every day whereas I paint toy soldiers yeah the difference the colors I do a
46:43
lot of coloring in professionally coloring have you thought about uh YouTube at all
46:49
yeah I like I thought about it at one point but I
46:54
don't even know what I would have put on there yeah like like what would people want because I was think like I did like
47:02
a sort of short necron tutorial which I put on as a YouTube short but I find it
47:08
so incredibly hard to paint whilst filming yeah I have to go like this yeah
47:14
and it's so difficult like I'm sure there's a better way of doing it but I would quite like to do something on
47:21
YouTube but I just I don't think it'd be tutorials and it's like well what else would people want so
47:26
like we found this which is so obviously my background is painting did tutorials
47:32
for one more TV but although the tutorials do okay we found that the chat sheet is better or at least it's quite
47:37
consistent in its numbers yeah um and that surprised me and it's like
47:43
make you know that's quite a big Focus now that's definitely one video a week we must do every week yeah because it is quite a big draw yeah
47:49
um well a big draw for the for the following that we have um so it's it's like as opposed to just
47:55
being solely painting Channel as it's a bit of talky bit of painting better talking bit of painting so it doesn't
48:00
always have to be painting I guess there's a lot of um because you talk about you know the the mental health side of
48:07
things and how that affects people and whatever and that's always something I think is needed in the hobby is is an open
48:13
performance talk about and we've talked about that before uh you you turned up I want to comment on our
48:19
um uh episodes where it's talking about like you know I think these things should be talked about but at the same
48:25
time you know it opens up to like it being a weird topic and people focus
48:31
on the negatives and it's like but you've got to talk about it to resolve it and to move on it's like mental
48:37
health in men they talked about that no one would talk about that for years because it was like men can't have these problems in those yeah yeah it seems
48:45
like quite a common thing in the last like five years where it's like you know you can't talk about it's okay no one should judge you for talking about it
48:51
but you still feel judged if you do talk about it so I think the same thing applies to like you know how ladies are
48:56
treated in the hobby whether that's good bad the experiences they've had yeah you know it could be you know stuff like I don't know I mean I'm just like
49:02
spitballing nonsense ideas yeah yeah I mean whenever I do a video um
49:08
on my own it's more focused on I guess I'm trying to learn how to do
49:14
something yeah and it's yeah like that I don't know more of a journey than a
49:20
tutorial which people like seeing stuff like that to be fair yeah and you get a lot of I they don't get negative
49:27
feedback do they it's more like helpful feedback or like oh have you thought about this yeah I like the way you've done that yeah yeah yeah yeah so you are
49:34
like showing all these different videos you've looked at and then you've gone on this journey to try some stuff yourself and people like oh what you've done here
49:40
is this where you could yeah yeah so it generates a different sort of following and a different set of comments I think
49:45
yeah those levels do I know you've like got my like brain like good I'm like what could I do let me know send me a DM
49:53
yeah so when this goes out salute probably would have happened yeah uh but you're on the panel I can't believe
49:58
that's Saturday it is yeah yeah two days away uh so how does it feel to be on the women of Warhammer panel Warhammer I'm
50:06
gradually getting more anxious like not in terms of like the like how public
50:12
speaking things that's like like a large part of my actual job as in like outside of the hobby
50:19
um it's more I don't know again I think it's the Imposter syndrome I'm like why
50:24
am I on this panel like what like I don't know it's just it's I think that's my source of anxiety at the moment
50:30
that'll be fine when I'm there but it's always that fear because there is that really negative element like from how
50:37
some people in a hobby treat women there's always that at the back of my mind I'm like am I gonna like get
50:44
someone to shout something rude obviously that's not gonna happen nobody going to do that as a prank by
50:50
the way someone's going to do it now yeah yeah
50:55
um but yeah I think that's what makes it a bit intimidating is literally just like
51:01
it seems well received looking at uh the South South warlord game in uh yeah Instagram page it could have been
51:07
putting posts out of all the different guests are having yeah it's been really well received and people are chucking in like questions like I want to know about
51:13
this and I want to know about that so um and you'll be surrounded by other like-minded ladies yeah that's really
51:19
good it's got a really good panel to be fair um I can't wait for it I like to do I
51:24
used to like going all the time and with covert happening is this the first one since covert I think it is if it's the
51:31
50th Anniversary as well which is surprising because I remember my dad had military magazines like military modeling magazines it all used to have
51:37
this thing called salute and I used to call it salute because
51:46
I used to get some words really mixed up but that's just yeah yeah I mean I
51:52
um my favorite one or my mum's favorite when I was when I was younger was
51:59
a mascarpone I would call Mass crap one
52:05
Mouse crap one that sounds like some like really rubbish spaceship yeah so
52:11
I've got a worse one but it's not to do with words but it's still a confusion point when I was younger I say younger I
52:18
was like 11 at this point until I was 11 I thought that my rib cage was my lungs
52:25
oh yeah yeah if you think about it you can
52:30
see how like because they're all like there's gaps yeah yeah I thought it was a fish
52:37
basically yeah but then I was actually yeah I was like I think 10 or 11 and I came like downstairs my mom was like Mom
52:43
my lungs are really hurting she was like what do you mean like and I think she was a bit worried I was like my lungs
52:49
already hurt and she's like Rachel those are your ribs and I was like what
52:54
I like old age to like only realize that at that point but yeah it was like yeah
53:00
very very confused I can't do my mind draw to mine now but there's been a few revelations in the last like 10 years
53:06
where I'm just like how have I not known that until now yeah or like you know yeah because I've had it a few times like you know the painting team or
53:12
whatever just like feel so stupid knowing that that's a thing and I didn't know I mean I called uh foliage Foliage
53:19
for so many years it's like foliage and my wife would be like you mean foliage like that's what I said you know she's
53:24
like that's close though isn't it spoilage yeah people get the idea it's fine I
53:30
know I know I mean I know I'm one of us yeah shall we do I was gonna say drink
53:35
questions we've got a whole bunch of questions uh help DHL have asking me for something like that nobody will ask
53:40
about so um I'm kind of touched on that so Andrew Holmes talks about like the mental
53:46
health uh side of things being a female the hobbyist and stuff like that but we'll kind of touched on a fair bit um
53:52
so we've got whether this been following for a while and enjoy her style of painting my questions given time resources were No Object what army would
53:58
you like to paint create doesn't have to be more human I know you called the Warhammer girl but it doesn't have to be
54:05
it could be called the Star Wars Legion girl I mean you know that's fine too no it probably would be I keep knocking the
54:10
mic there probably would be Warhammer just don't drop the mic they're well they're on arms they can't
54:23
question at all I think he kind of eludes it or create as well if there's something you
54:29
really got an answer for that oh good Studio Ghibli oh yeah that's like my
54:34
dream do you know what studio does yeah so it's a Japanese Film Production you know I've literally got tattoo oh wait
54:40
these are Studio Ghibli earrings oh right yeah yeah I recognize the design yeah so it's literally my dream for them
54:48
to I mean they don't really do any merch but it's basically a Japanese Film Production Company it's like anime and
54:53
that's something before I watch one of the films and got absolutely obsessed with it like I now I was like no I'm not
55:00
ever gonna get into anime but they're brilliant they're like amazing films so I would absolutely love to have minis of
55:06
all the characters and paint them yeah because it gets me excited to talk about it yeah like yeah like a cat bus yeah
55:12
yeah that would be amazing yeah oh yeah a bus made of cats no that would be amazing all the characters so
55:20
um yeah because I personally I feel like I missed the boat with anime like I
55:27
generally don't watch any of it yeah but when I was younger I'd go go to my dad's and he'd
55:35
put on My Neighbor Totoro yeah uh and then Spirited Away yeah yeah and yeah
55:41
it's great to watching you struggle trying to say words I've got used to it now I'm not even
55:47
noticing it now you're doing really well oh man I'm trying I've run out of water so we're gonna go downhill now it's a
55:54
Studio Ghibli yeah oh my gosh I wish that was a possibility yeah would you be then the Ghibli girl the ghiblical yeah
56:01
yeah yeah the warhammers gibbly girl that's a good answer yeah yeah oh you're
56:07
really good it's a bit like I feel really bad like now I've seen like the earrings yeah the image you have to
56:13
watch if you're gonna watch one of them watch Spirited Away because that's the most mainstream one I mean all most of
56:18
these films are above like rated an eight on IMDb so they're like really good films yeah yeah like Spirited Away
56:24
is in the top like I can't remember but it's really higher up in the top 250 IMDb yeah it's amazing yeah it's really
56:32
good highly recommended then so yeah I'll start watching it good and yeah uh
56:38
Totoro is a classic yeah you're like it's quite old now isn't it yeah I think that's the one that's like really aimed
56:44
at kids and that's the one that kids like actually you love they're like obsessed with it um but it's good because they're all suitable for kids
56:51
but there's like adult themes running through them like some of them are like oh I'm not gonna read it like I have
56:56
like cried my eyes out at them yeah there's one in particular it's called grave of the fireflies yeah don't watch
57:03
it okay it's too traumatizing it's brilliant but it's very traumatizing it's like a wartime yeah yeah oh it's so
57:11
sad I'm getting emotional now next question Stephen Harper how does she choose her
57:18
painting projects find the balance of hobby for the purposes to post about as a content creator and a hobby for
57:24
personal Joy is it the same thing um to be fair like every mini that I've
57:31
been sent I've absolutely loved painting which is brilliant to be fair because
57:36
obviously that is the only difference for me is just the the pressure and there isn't actually
57:43
any pressure like you don't have to do it but obviously it's such like an honor
57:48
to be sent stuff I want to do it and I really like the line I'm obsessed that's my favorite mini I've ever painted ever
57:53
yeah um so I think like when I'm so what I do is when I'm
58:00
feeling really pressured and just a bit stressed about putting content out I then just think okay
58:05
what mini if I could use any would I want to paint so for example I watched Starship Troopers for the first time
58:12
like I think it was about a month ago and then bought a um not Tyrann effects
58:17
uh the other one what was it uh
58:22
yeah I I struggle with the names I struggle the names because there's like Hera specs it's something like that yeah
58:28
oh God how embarrassing oh God they've all got weird after Carnival gone yeah
58:34
yeah yeah yeah because the certain builds do certain things I'm like I I don't even remember I used to paint them so yeah I get confused those but yeah so
58:40
I bought that started that and I was like that's really fun and then obviously bought a um the snotlings like
58:46
blood bowl and like had that as a little break like refresher to get me like into it again but I wouldn't say
58:54
I ever struggle with like balancing anything just because so far like
59:00
everything I've been sent I've been like this is amazing and I can't wait to paint it yeah um but it does get I think
59:06
I've touched on it on Instagram before like it does get hard sometimes like in terms
59:12
of like being a Creator I hate that word but you know what I mean yeah like it is hard because you do feel pressure to put
59:19
content out but I think as long as you're aware when you start slipping down that like oh my God I'm really
59:26
pressured like putting me off as long as you like catch yourself and then do something about it like just randomly
59:31
paint a mini that you love or whatever then it sort of stops that happening it's when you don't realize it's
59:37
happening and then you get into like a pit of despair happened to me a few weeks ago and I was in a really bad
59:42
place mentally and then I was like for goodness sake like it's my choice what I do yeah you need to remember that that
59:48
it's my hobby I do it for a hobby don't do it for money like like I just literally do it because I love it
59:55
um but yeah it's hard it is sometimes hard to balance yeah I could see sometimes you you will put pressure on
1:00:00
yourself when we do that don't we sometimes like we we need because first it is a job at the same time the stuff I
1:00:06
do at home is for me yeah and I often think oh I should post this or I should post them on now
1:00:11
yeah exactly if I want to do a post of like a luminesce character and with a
1:00:16
rocky background I'll do it if I want to just paint a random figure and shot them white I'll do that it's like the other week I literally just posted a because I
1:00:24
noticed on one of my like mini shelves that there was a bottle of Gaviscon and I was like that's really funny I just
1:00:30
posted that I was just like like basically said uh put a caption and that
1:00:35
was it and I obviously like obviously again I literally made an entire video about this topic but that whole thing
1:00:41
where you do get into like a trap of becoming like obsessed
1:00:46
with like the amount of likes you get and I'm not gonna lie I said on my video like that's me like yeah because
1:00:52
everyone craves validation and there's no there's no shame in like almost like
1:00:57
just talking about how it is nice to get likes I mean that's the whole point of Instagram because that's the function of it like if it wasn't there wouldn't be a
1:01:04
like function yeah but I think it is sometimes like can become toxic like I think it's
1:01:11
dependent on your personality type like I very much like crave validation I'm too open honestly everyone knows all my
1:01:17
mental health issues just like I'm just like yeah I create validation and I want likes but it's just I think I've got
1:01:24
better at that to be fair I've somehow like got out of really caring that much yeah I I agree with that though because
1:01:30
I'm I'm the same I might not actively go out search but when I put a post up I wanted to do all right exactly I want
1:01:36
people to like it yeah yeah and sometimes there'll be like a post um that I put a lot of time into and it
1:01:42
doesn't get as many likes as one where I've party timings yeah and then they're like overthinkable what is it that
1:01:47
difficult is it the lighting is the day it's just the algorithm yeah that's the thing but you then automatically because
1:01:52
like I've said before like we're putting art out there and that's very personal because it's literally
1:01:58
your talent you're putting like your talent out there and if like you spend hours and hours and so much of a Time on
1:02:05
something and it doesn't get many likes it's very hard to not take it personally but 99 of the time it is just the
1:02:11
Instagram algorithm yeah like it just the time of day like there's certain times a day in certain days so if you
1:02:17
post nobody's gonna like it because they're working yeah so if you're not aware of that like it can be like really
1:02:23
the internet's contradictory on that as well because some sites say yeah post on these times in this day and then others
1:02:29
say yeah and I just like which is it yeah so I've had to just work that out myself well it's like works for me one
1:02:34
of them says never post on a Sunday evening yes every post I've done on a Sunday evening yeah yeah so I'm just I'm
1:02:41
just like what how is this information out there yeah if you think about it Sunday everyone's like got Sunday Blues
1:02:46
probably scrolling through Instagram chilling yeah obviously that's a good time twice so if you want your voice to do that posters on the evening and if it
1:02:54
doesn't do well I'm sorry and don't blame me yeah yeah uh this one tickled me it's more of a
1:02:59
statement than the question the Ames is saying looking forward to seeing some more top tier influencer here on the show as apparently that's what gets her
1:03:06
views yep everyone knows it yeah like it's just my hair uh okay what we've got here uh uh
1:03:15
what inspired you to get into hobby I kind of touched on that from Irish uh
1:03:20
elsewhere the existence of the Warhammer girl suggests is the lineage of Warhammer people who would you pick to
1:03:26
be the Warhammer granny and the Warhammer grandma get the good work been a follower for a
1:03:32
while and your resilience in the face of ignorance is admirable that's it I think it'll be peachy
1:03:38
I could I could get a blue rinse I could totally do that I could dig yeah granny clothes I've dressed up his grandma
1:03:44
before I've dressed exactly it's meant to be you've no one would believe that as a dress for Xena my wife used to have
1:03:49
a zener outfit when we used to do like cosplay stuff cosplay you know that's amazing and then one year we're asked to
1:03:55
like swap rolls and she got dressed up as a soldier I got dressed for Xena that was fun do you have any photo evidence
1:04:01
there I don't know if we do we might do it there's been numerous times where I've dressed up in Liz's clothes for
1:04:07
funses well I'm a grandma then yeah totally change your username the warhamogram yeah do it uh so you've
1:04:16
mentioned about what drew in to paint necrons that was uh bulge wizard is asking like you know what what is it drew you in uh
1:04:23
okay uh Joe Rogers since there is no upper body strength we're crime words
1:04:30
requirements for wargaming what other barriers is this that might discourage uh more women from playing painting or
1:04:36
otherwise engaging in toy soldiers
1:04:45
I guess because men have different shoulders to women I don't know if that's what yeah they're getting that what other barriers exist that might
1:04:52
discourage uh women from playing painting or engaging into it so do you think there's any other barriers there's
1:04:58
no barriers
1:05:05
yeah yeah I love climbing do you climb
1:05:10
yeah oh yes I absolutely love it yeah I used to work there sorry Joe I
1:05:16
said it wrong the uh the depot oh amazing do you know it's so funny
1:05:22
like it seems like so many people into Warhammer also do bouldering yeah it's
1:05:27
like it's an odd bouldering yeah that's as in like without all drinks without ropes that's what I do and then climbing
1:05:34
I call that gambling with your life yeah it's scary all right it's not above like the Deep
1:05:42
Abyss or anything could we lose you one then I'm having to learn how to write it on my own because you went bouldering no
1:05:47
well some people like my friend saw someone like fall off the wall and break their legs so it's quite scary I'm scared of heights I've no idea I've
1:05:54
chosen this as another hobby but it's like nice to overcome fears but it's brilliant yeah so I'm gonna go on a
1:06:00
slight tangent I remember years ago on terrestrial TV there was a documentary about a guy called the mountain Runner
1:06:05
and he used to climb mountains without robes but run up it so he would like
1:06:11
launch himself and run really fast I think it was a Native American guy and you just watch it this guy was like so
1:06:16
surreal and then that film that that same documentary they did he slipped and died and they went to the end oh God
1:06:23
this was like yeah so I made this whole document about this guy doing this thing with all the footage but they couldn't finish it because he killed himself
1:06:30
whilst filming the documentary I forget what he was called now but it was just like watching him just run up mountains
1:06:35
because he like literally launched himself from Clifford yeah that's like really gambling for your life yeah yeah
1:06:41
yeah I would not advise doing that yeah don't do this at home a lot of the um
1:06:46
like free solo guys yeah um or like base jumping and all that
1:06:52
kind of thing loads of them are dead yeah yeah yeah yeah bouldering don't use that guy that went
1:06:59
up um L Capital yeah yeah yeah Alex Honnold yeah absolutely mad honestly yeah is he
1:07:07
still alive yeah yeah oh yes yeah I was expecting like he died yeah no he's fine give me time okay so Savage Daniel Lane
1:07:16
three questions you grow a considerable following in a short period of time less than two years
1:07:22
according to ig what do you attribute to your success probably your hair my hair yeah uh and what would you expect
1:07:27
differently if you started over and what advice would you give to anyone looking to make their hobby their career so the
1:07:32
two last ones make a lot of sense actually you know would you do something different if you were to start from scratch again um cool and uh any advice for anyone
1:07:40
wanted to start their own hobby career or hobby um
1:07:46
to be honest I think just don't put too much pressure on yourself to grow your account yeah
1:07:53
um because that's like can be really detrimental to like mental health and like something I struggled with and I do
1:07:59
I do understand that obviously because it is it is male dominated that
1:08:05
literally the figures show it like three percent of my following is women and the rest is men um so I understand that obviously it
1:08:12
does help being a woman I'm not saying that women are only successful because they're a woman because I'm a woman how
1:08:19
many times should I say women because I'm intrigued by Instagram as a pro a
1:08:24
platform anyway does it take that information because you put your gender because I didn't put my gender in into
1:08:30
my settings so that's a good point actually so if you don't put your gender in like you say prefer not to say
1:08:36
yeah then it probably wouldn't factor into this there's a lot more than you probably yeah yeah
1:08:41
that's a good point um but still obviously it's still lower than like three percent it's still
1:08:46
pretty loud it's probably a good sort of yeah I mean it's you have a higher female following than we do ours is on
1:08:53
YouTube is one really yeah I think so our mind's 50 it's there
1:09:04
I've heard this from a few people that have said comments like you're quite popular in China with a ladies like ow
1:09:11
really someone actually sent you yeah oh wow that's so bizarre always makes me embarrassed every time going back to
1:09:17
like the question though it's just I would just say just don't yeah like just don't put pressure on yourself and also
1:09:25
I mean there's things in terms of like if you're actually asking advice on how to grow an account it's just try and
1:09:32
please the algorithm yes just try and work out like because the thing is for example take me in Spencer
1:09:38
what works for him in terms of growing is completely different and what I would say is people that follow you get used
1:09:44
to the ways you take photos of your mini yeah so Spencer's is always like against
1:09:49
a dark background on its own without hands or anything whereas mine are a bit more like but I'm holding them in here
1:09:56
and so people when they see that they immediately know it's me and if they follow me they'll probably like it yeah
1:10:01
so it's that's another thing to remember I can literally give loads of tips and stuff like this but I guess yeah I've
1:10:06
heard that with like your background if it's like all the same or if you like how it's because it's in box of three
1:10:12
isn't it if it's like done in a certain way it's like you've got like three Reds and three blues and three Reds and three blues yeah just visually pleasing to
1:10:19
look at that seems to have a little bit I've heard people doing their posts as reels helps yeah reals reels are funny because
1:10:27
they like whenever I post a real I guarantee
1:10:33
I lose probably about 15 followers really yeah it's really weird it's because I do understand like people on
1:10:38
Instagram for different reasons like if you just want to see pictures of art and no reals like fair enough like it's your
1:10:44
choice what you see so if you want if you don't like the fact I do reals that I literally like understand like just
1:10:50
unfollow me like yeah it doesn't matter like the Bots as well because I get followed by lots of random because
1:10:56
they're dropping clothes there's loads it's scary to be fair because our
1:11:02
Instagram presence is only reels yeah
1:11:07
um and but they're sort of like shorter versions of tutorials yeah
1:11:13
um those do well to be fair reels like that yeah and and we yeah I guess we do okay yeah I don't know if we
1:11:21
lose any like any followers um is when you say like when you post reels is
1:11:28
is it like um um say if it's like a viral um piece of
1:11:37
audio like yeah style yeah yeah yeah it doesn't like I've what I've noticed is
1:11:44
but sometimes I'm like I'll use this like bit of audio because that's like a as you say like a viral thing makes no
1:11:50
difference in the Warhammer Community honestly like it doesn't because the audience for the majority of those
1:11:57
sound bites is not Warhammer so like people aren't gonna even though you're using the same audio people aren't going
1:12:03
to see it on their feeds because it's Warhammer yeah so like they're not that's not gonna come up in their like
1:12:09
feed so um I just like I'm not really like with reels I really like making them but I
1:12:15
only do it for fun now don't do it to try and gain followers yeah I've had a real I thought because it was like Tick
1:12:22
Tock was competing with it Instagram or anything I was trying to compete with it yeah yeah being pushed and I was like
1:12:28
I'll do a 360 mic because I did some um clone troopers in the camo scheme from Revenge of the Sith and I'll do
1:12:35
that and I've found some audio which is like the the start of the Revenge of the stuff for the two Jedi everyone in
1:12:41
Anakin are flying through the ships I like that music I was like I'll do that like that and I synced it right and I
1:12:46
was like really proud with like the the 360. put it up got hardly any views and then a week later the audio wasn't
1:12:52
available anymore oh that happened to me
1:12:57
that happened to me when I did like an unboxing of The Lord of the Rings um the Battle of oh how do you say yeah
1:13:06
so I'd like put the Lord of the Rings to it and I was like love it like everyone loves the Lord of the Rings and then I
1:13:11
went back the other day and it's like this audio has been removed I was like well that has made it utterly useless yeah yeah the audio made it yeah it
1:13:18
literally did like that's yeah that's the whole thing that's why reels exist it's good for the audio really
1:13:25
um yeah uh you can answer if you want to you don't have to uh skinny man what has been your worst interaction in the
1:13:31
community and what has been your best so my worst
1:13:36
um I got sent a picture of part of a man that I didn't ask for oh no yeah oh so
1:13:45
that was it is earlobe yeah that's it yeah very offensive let's just call it a
1:13:51
earlobe so yeah it was like complete like I never mentioned me before I probably still got on my phone
1:13:57
somewhere I blocked him but the chat is probably still there I'm not gonna bring it out it's like oh yeah look at this
1:14:03
um I don't get that though I don't I don't understand I never expected that in this Hobby and I know a
1:14:09
lot of other women in the hobby have had the same yeah the same person but maybe maybe probably like bulk sent it out I
1:14:16
was just like hoping that someone would be like oh my God amazing thank you so much should we go on a date so what do these people expect us to do yeah for me
1:14:23
it's like you know you get the cars at rev and beep
1:14:34
they're going so fast past year you're never gonna have the opportunity to stop and get the number you're probably never going to marry him because you think
1:14:40
heretic and it's the same kind of mentality isn't it really it's just like what what are you getting out of there or is it just the fact it's like a
1:14:46
control Power yeah I think men do and like it's not this is just one of the
1:14:52
reasons probably but I think it's a like a they know that we're going to respond in
1:14:59
a negative way and they like that they are causing that reaction yeah it's like degrading like I see I'm gonna send this
1:15:06
and they're like not gonna like it and I've like got some sort of power over them out of nowhere yeah um so that's
1:15:11
one I mean some of them they just get off on it but yeah it's the worst interaction but this
1:15:17
wasn't really an interaction because I obviously did not interact I wasn't like thanks man like yeah really that's made
1:15:23
my day because it really didn't um the best was
1:15:32
my best interaction is actually again on the mental health
1:15:37
piece is like just the amount of support like whenever I've said I'm really struggling and
1:15:43
things like that honest to God like it's maybe like in tears and it's just
1:15:50
I don't know it's just so refreshing to see like this like how everyone in the
1:15:56
community seems to like rally each other obviously there is negative but that's the same in everything
1:16:02
um so literally best interaction is just from people being so supportive like it's really really touching and really
1:16:08
nice it sounds really weird and probably a lot of people were like that's a really weird statement to say peach but
1:16:14
I sometimes think you need the negative people to realize how yeah good definitely how important the positive
1:16:21
people are yeah so you know when we had the Hat we didn't it was so nice to see people rally around us when we got
1:16:26
hacked we said on a previous show but it you need those dark times to see you know appreciate
1:16:33
the people yeah the light yeah yeah I guess make it profound yes uh that is quite long so no light
1:16:40
without Darkness yes yes uh right okay uh just some big ones prefer biscuits
1:16:47
from Trevor Bailey um the Biscoff ones oh I was gonna buy
1:16:52
some loaves this morning I went for these Savory snacks and I'm a massive fan of savor I don't really have
1:16:58
a sweet tooth to be fair but I'm obsessed with Biscoff yeah yeah they are
1:17:04
nice I um shot a wedding uh recently and they had like a a cake Table and there
1:17:12
was a Biscoff blondies and I I left with like half a dozen
1:17:20
let's make it I haven't really all I've eaten today is these like rice cracker things you better take them away now I'm
1:17:26
literally like salivating thinking about Biscoff related Edibles edible
1:17:33
I don't do drugs I meant I I just yeah food but yeah yeah
1:17:40
oh Peach I literally was about to pick up the pickup they're not in cells are I don't
1:17:48
know all this stuff uh Andy hairy sticks wedmore good name Andy uh what line of
1:17:55
Miniatures would you most like to see uh get a rework new Scopes also least favorite miniature range and why is it
1:18:02
Town poor towel um I everything recently I do want to
1:18:07
see I know like necrons were only updated like not that long ago in like relation but I would absolutely love to
1:18:13
see new like stuff for them just because it was my first Army so it's like for me I hadn't seen what
1:18:21
they were like before obviously I have now but I would love that because it's like for me that's the like Nostalgia
1:18:27
side like it would bring that out and I'd yeah I think that would be I would love to see like an update then but I
1:18:33
know that's not gonna happen yeah you never know never seen those I am
1:18:38
demanding it do it um oh no internet you say least favorite uh
1:18:45
well I'll just describe back up uh yes least favorite yes you're right
1:18:50
um Lumina no some of those um oh I don't really know I I don't think there'll be
1:18:56
a negative thing because my least favorite is Orcs I love the background I love the Miniatures I just don't enjoy
1:19:02
the pain in them I really enjoy painting Orcs And I get a lot of stick for it but I've been thinking it's because I got exposed to walks quite a lot when I was
1:19:08
in the studio yeah and I'm just sick and tired of painting green skin bone and stone which I hate there's textures to
1:19:13
paint yeah that's fair enough um had too much of a good thing yeah well
1:19:20
150 Savage Orcs then 50 ball boy Riders is enough to break any man I think
1:19:25
in one city oh I'm trying to think like um
1:19:33
oh um what they called those clown ones uh oh yeah Harley Quinn's not fun I know
1:19:39
you men yeah I don't like those I don't know I don't know why I think it's because they're
1:19:45
clownish and I'm terrified of clowns yeah yeah it just puts me off like I can
1:19:50
appreciate why other people like them but for me it's a no can I tell you secret for me yeah so when we were doing
1:19:58
we we did a paint guide when the Codex was being redone and the Plastics were coming out we were asked to do some
1:20:03
color variants and we had like some like little sketch that one of the artists did and we just colored it in so then
1:20:08
the other artists would do like some vignettes and I channeled my inner Ronald McDonald and painted did a
1:20:15
coloring to look a bit like Ronald McDonald and it and it got through so there is like one that looks a bit
1:20:20
like a weird clown so yeah I'm leaving bye so I'm not sorry and that's your
1:20:26
fault you will be uh Michael bent Toby uh so on a previous
1:20:32
chats we um talked to we had some theories some some conspiracy theories as to why Duncan Rhodes left and as to
1:20:39
why I left what would your conspiracy theory be to why Duncan left Games Workshop and why I left Games Workshop
1:20:45
I'm not the right person to ask I'll say it could be wild and and it absolutely daft oh you don't have to answer it it's
1:20:52
fine I think the reason you did is because your hair is not good enough
1:20:58
it's not I can't get the views and I think I was struggling with that I was struggling with it and I did get a few comments about it
1:21:04
um don't I don't know I was literally saying earlier like all of this stuff like is so over my head I can't even
1:21:11
think of a funny response for Duncan because like it's just too serious I think that's the problem I think that's why he left he was pushed out the
1:21:17
business because he was just too serious yeah you look at his face she's like mate you just need to chill out a bit and he's like and every time when we
1:21:23
went off camera it'd sometimes have a smile when he was doing his filming but when he off camera it turned into like a really grumpy miserable face I was like
1:21:30
is the wind change mate and it's just like don't talk to me get back in that because he had like little trailers I'd
1:21:36
get back in the trailer and start splitting my Smarties up okay all right sorry Lord and Savior so I'd go in and
1:21:43
I'll be there split and I'm gonna come in and he'll just knock them all on the floor again
1:21:52
it is I'm waking up here yes sorry about that Duncan just left this is the thing
1:21:57
I said like I'm the wrong person asked a question because like I don't know what's true and what isn't oh yeah the
1:22:03
amount of stuff I hear it was when you're like in horrible time
1:22:08
because I was like you wouldn't say this or like yeah yeah it was great
1:22:14
um no you just like like me just wanted to change a scenery yeah I can see I can
1:22:19
see why like people make that choice he's I followed one of his tutorials on um
1:22:25
what's it like I think it was weathering oh what was it I followed it on I can't remember now but he's very talented yeah
1:22:32
he's yeah
1:22:37
that's right oh shawless has asked what's the most annoying color to paint
1:22:42
with do you have a color you hate wraith bone oh yeah
1:22:48
it does my absolute heading a few coats of that like I just can't like hate it
1:22:54
absolutely hate it I think there's another one as well um oh uh
1:22:59
oh what is it it's another like like white-ish chalk is it that's it yeah
1:23:06
I've had a feeling that we palaged with chalk chalk we used to call it that in there I mean yeah like that it should be
1:23:13
renamed palette witch talk or just chalk yeah just talk yeah pot of chalk yeah
1:23:18
yeah so that smiles I mean in a way I get a lot more life out of it because I added more water mix it and it's like a
1:23:24
nice layer for a time and the water evaporates over time I don't have time for that if you want to be able to dip my brush in and that's it yeah it's true
1:23:31
you want to buy it yeah work exactly I know that's too much to ask um but yeah yeah
1:23:38
uh I've got two more I think uh and we've got Aaron Chillington saying hi Rachel what's been your favorite book or
1:23:44
story I haven't like read much to be fair I've read I've only read like Horus heresy
1:23:53
um think I'm on flight the heisenstein I can't remember now but I haven't read
1:23:58
for ages I liked um the third one Galaxy in Flames isn't it
1:24:04
yeah yeah that was brilliant really likes that but yeah I haven't I haven't done much reading which is I I haven't
1:24:10
either yeah because I I'm really into like fantasy like books as in as in like
1:24:15
not Warhammer fantasy isn't just fantasy I think because I write it as well it's like it's inspiration for me so like all my
1:24:24
reading time is taken up by books I'm already reading and then it's like they're all series as well so I just
1:24:31
don't have time to read anything else I'll ask you a question then uh I've scrolled through the most of a very similar talk of all yes so on a previous
1:24:38
podcast we talked to I came across a uh a description of high fantasy and low
1:24:45
Fantasy Life yeah yes there's two types yes um and I was like oh it's really
1:24:50
interesting never really is that something you've ever come across from no no because the same I mean I've been into fantasy for so so many years like
1:24:58
DND and all these different things and we had on that uh chat a few people commented was going there what they
1:25:03
thought their definition was yeah and I think it does very depending on what people the schools are thought but the the concept in this book that I read
1:25:09
because it was a fancy art book because I love art uh High fantasy is um a made-up setting yeah that's yeah
1:25:16
whereas low fantasy tends to be it is the world but with magic and monsters in it see I so
1:25:23
that fits in with my two definitions however I call low fancy urban fantasy
1:25:28
oh yeah so like I agree with those descriptions but I call it urban fantasy because it's like set in the world but
1:25:35
it's definitely magic and then High fantasy is all like completely like made up Realms with magic like Wizards
1:25:42
fairies like stuff like that so so you say you're right a lot of fantasy stuff if you don't like books and novels
1:25:47
yourself so I've literally started like three fantasy books but I I struggle
1:25:52
with writing and I say in the suspenser yes or day before so the best tip I've
1:25:58
been given for writing is to just write don't go sentences like don't overthink but that's just not me I will like
1:26:04
agonize over one paragraph for like four days so I've like so one of the fantasy
1:26:10
books I started writing I think I've done like four chapters they're quite long chapters but I just got so stressed
1:26:16
with my own need to be perfect with writing I should stop writing it and now I've got a completely new plot that I've
1:26:23
owned come up with in the past few days so you can start writing that but I'm determined to actually finish a novel
1:26:28
because yeah this will be the fourth one that I've started yeah oh wow but it's just hard it's just difficult too and
1:26:34
what kind of like subject matter are you you doing in it or like you know I I don't know if anyone's ever read just
1:26:40
the legend and like those kind of things so that's that's a very that's a high fantasy but it feels in my head low
1:26:45
fantasy but it's about a big early war of an ax um and he's called dross and there's
1:26:51
like three books about him and there's loads of stuff around it by an author called David gamble he's I think he's passed now
1:26:57
um but I really love those kind of novels and it's their own thing it feels Lord of the Rings The Game of Thrones and it's his own sort of genre of that
1:27:04
how would you describe your kind of so first one I started was urban fantasy
1:27:12
and it was very much based around like Wizards um and obviously mixing like the world
1:27:20
as it is with that the one I'm starting writing is completely High fantasy so like this there's humans in it but it's
1:27:27
like a different world like it's entirely like Fantastical
1:27:32
I say Fantastical I'm told it's not a word but it is because we use it a lot I just find it I think it's like actually
1:27:39
because I find I don't know if anyone like watching slash listening finds us if you write fantasy when I I found with
1:27:46
urban fantasy because you're trying to mix in like actual World stuff it can
1:27:52
sometimes like come across really cheesy like I don't I feel like yo I don't understand this to be written
1:27:58
fantasy but it just it just I don't know it feels a bit weird yeah it's quite hard to write as well because you've got
1:28:03
to think in two entirely different mindsets whereas High fantasy it's like right everything in writing is
1:28:09
completely made up so you've got more flexibility and more like free reign with like directions to go in terms of
1:28:15
plot um so I'm finding already fleshing out the plot for this High fantasy one is so much easier yeah I'm really excited
1:28:22
about it and as I said Spencer I feel like I've read it already even though I haven't read it yeah yeah that's good I
1:28:28
don't know how that works but I think that's a good sign um do you tend to because this is what I've always been intrigued by anyone
1:28:34
that does fantasy because I I like drawing just foreign maps and things do you have a map do you have like a a
1:28:40
location in mind of what the world would look like I probably would do a map for this one
1:28:46
um this one is heavily dragons and like Fae okay and I
1:28:53
think only like dragon's elves humans and then there's some other like kind but I think I probably because of I'm
1:28:59
not gonna go through the plot but because of like my plans for it I think I will draw you can draw me a map
1:29:07
oh my God draw me about draw your back oh my God yes
1:29:23
obviously great um I used for a DND campaign
1:29:29
a website where you exclusively use it to build oh yeah yeah that was cool yeah
1:29:36
I knew this existed computer games Age of Empires you can go Auto create and then uh just make sure your map doesn't
1:29:42
it it's just something the reason why I asked is I find like d d early days they probably didn't
1:29:49
have locations but over the years of doing these DND sort of modules and like the stories and stuff so I was a big fan
1:29:56
of a computer game called Paul's gate and they did like a bunch of them there's one called Iceman Dale and it wasn't until I really got into that and
1:30:02
said that oh it's the DND engine I used to do this for my brother that they had a map and it was like oh cool and then
1:30:07
as I've got over the years I didn't realize how big feroon was like the Forgotten Realms and Varun and like all
1:30:14
the places I visited in these games are all on this map and you become like really attached to it I was like oh I
1:30:19
played a game about water deep and that's up there in Boulders games here and I did a game called Neverwinter
1:30:25
Nights and that's over there and oh my God so you know I really love that kind of stuff where you suddenly like recognize places for yeah several
1:30:31
different games even though they're meant to be LinkedIn that's really cool yeah cool uh the other thing I was going to
1:30:37
ask before we probably uh finish because I don't know how long how long your batches have got left we're uh an hour
1:30:43
of 40 nearly really wow I must start some Paris
1:30:48
so before we we wrap up uh the question I guess for anyone that's
1:30:54
younger out there like younger kids younger girls in the hobby they see this as quite a male dominated thing what
1:31:00
kind of advice would you you Chuck out there to anyone like once again I'll be thinking this isn't for me am I allowed
1:31:05
to be in this I think firstly reach out to other women in the hobby like if any
1:31:11
of you are actually watching like drop me a message like I think it's because of the challenges we can face
1:31:18
it's really important to feel like you've got that support network of like other women that you can like can relate
1:31:24
to you and like support you if you get like nasty comments and things like that but I think it's just important to
1:31:31
remember like we said earlier like there is negative but it's largely very outweighed by positive and honestly
1:31:38
I've never in my entire life had the level of support that I have in the
1:31:44
hobby from like 98 of people unfortunately like it is human nature to
1:31:50
remember the negatives over the positive and sometimes it can because of that make it feel like it is a negative
1:31:57
environment but again like when these things happen just focus on then the supportive response you get
1:32:04
um but yeah mainly I think just reach out to other women yeah that's like probably my number one bit of advice is
1:32:11
don't feel afraid to like message any women in the hobby because they'll be so supportive like literally
1:32:18
all the women I know are so lovely like there's not one person that I've ever
1:32:23
come across that I don't like yeah yeah yeah is that peachy no you're joking
1:32:30
I guess that's the thing there isn't it's like um you've all got those shared experiences you've all been through it so you know the advice but um you're
1:32:37
right to point out there is like 98 probably more than that yeah really good it's like like experiences when I used
1:32:44
to work in retail you always I I from being on that side I always try and when you see like a cashier or
1:32:51
whatever having a bad day they only remember the bad parts yeah exactly you're always trying to make their day
1:32:56
feel just as good so I'll tell you totally get that yeah but um yeah uh this hobby is for everybody
1:33:02
uh it is which is not weird that you have to say that yeah it's weird that
1:33:08
you have to say that and I know it's never been like in a publication saying this is for men and whatever and I know boys gravitate to it more me my wife
1:33:14
have talked about us at length and she never did the hobby because she didn't think it was for her she just didn't do it because she wasn't excited yeah yeah
1:33:20
exactly and that that is the case for a lot of folks I mean there's a my my uncle uh my one of my brothers uh
1:33:28
probably isn't as active in the hobby as some of the others because she prefers playing football and yeah just do what
1:33:34
you want literally just do what you want within reason I'm within the law yes I thought about that disclaimer on it's
1:33:40
like oh I've just gone on like robbed a bank well the Warhammer girl said do what you want yeah look at all the one
1:33:46
yeah but yeah it is for everyone and that's
1:33:53
the key thing to remember and remember that there's like so many people that even if
1:33:59
you've never spoken to them will support you they've sent honestly them some messages I've received as I said have
1:34:06
like draw me to tears like because they're so lovely um so just remember like
1:34:11
I think the positive does outweigh the negative and there's a lot of women now
1:34:16
in the hobby so I think it's actually a good time for like younger women and just other women in general to get into
1:34:22
it because I think there's been like a massive shift yeah um so get into whatever because it's
1:34:28
really cool yeah that sounded really good um I did a little before I left Workshop
1:34:33
I did a little uh shoot for marketing and I had my niece uh Lily uh my nephew
1:34:40
and then my brother brought his partner's kids down as well and um so
1:34:46
there's two boys two girls they all loved it uh and I know Lily's a big fan
1:34:51
of like sort of fantasy art and stuff like that no she's a big fan of fantasy she's very much into like stranger things she looks
1:34:57
Harry Potter yes I like to explain like no you can get Harry Potter figures right just like what yeah so you know
1:35:03
it's it's there's something out there even if it's not all Games Workshop orientation yeah exactly it's definitely something out there that's miniature
1:35:09
based that yeah I mean I'm a big fan of Star Wars I never thought I'd seen Star Wars figures they're really cool yeah
1:35:15
Style's leadership stuff's great so just new Studio Ghibli now and then my life will literally be made yeah that's it
1:35:21
yeah all you need to do is get on like I don't know blender and learn to do some
1:35:26
freeform sculpting or the thing is I'm like I thought about stuff like that I thought oh maybe I can get someone like pay someone to make a Studio Ghibli mini
1:35:33
but then like is there's some sort of copyright with that I don't know probably maybe yeah if any of you know
1:35:39
please tell me put in the comments yeah yeah and yes thank you for everyone uh
1:35:45
watching the show thank you very much for coming on uh thank you for having me have fun absolute we'll probably see you yes oh we'll see you there yeah uh so I
1:35:51
hope that all goes well um any questions or you've got things you want to you know we'll put Rachel's Instagram in the
1:35:57
link as well so if you've got any questions or things you just want to say check them in uh we're always up for
1:36:03
listening and any suggestions for other guests as well that's always a good one so if you can think of any other cool
1:36:08
female guests to have on the hobby uh oh there's so many oh there is so many I I've literally like been making lists of
1:36:14
people that I want to get on the show some of them I think will be harder to get yeah that's like Dan Abner all the
1:36:20
way down to you know there's folks in the States because we want to do like in the room yeah yeah I really like that
1:36:26
format so yeah trying to get some folks is going to be harder but yeah definitely so any suggestions check them
1:36:32
in uh as always don't forget to hit the like And subscribe thank you to our patrons as well for the questions but also very good questions they are yeah
1:36:38
we'll put some very good ones thank you for joining us as well thanks for having me thank you for watching me and putting
1:36:43
up with my bad sense of humor and thanks
