Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America, and we just witnessed
0:05
a Republican in New York, a beautiful Republican councilwoman, physically assaulted in the
0:12
middle of a live interview. Let's take a look at this video, but before we do, please make sure you like, comment
0:18
share, and subscribe, because those little things really help us out, and they help our
0:23
channel continue to grow. Now I'm going to show you this video
0:26
This woman is a councilwoman in New York City, a Republican, which has to be a lonely
0:32
position to be in to begin with. She's in the middle of an interview with a local CBS affiliate
0:39
Now I'm not sure what the interview was about. She's been talking in recent times about really putting the screws to Democrat New York City
0:46
Mayor Eric Adams over the migrant crisis, and how much money from the New York City
0:51
budget has been spent on that. She was also talking about lead paint on a bridge nearby on the overhang
0:59
So there's a few things that have been on her agenda. Again, one of the lone Republicans
1:03
She's a Ukrainian immigrant, and she was accosted in the middle of this interview
1:09
Let's take a look at this short clip. Now look, she wasn't hit, she wasn't grabbed, she wasn't flung to the ground, but this is
1:21
still an assault. This is still not okay. I know some people may look at this and say, oh it's a kiss on the cheek and he laughed
1:29
and it's no big deal. No, it's a big deal. Women do not, you don't have a right to just walk up and kiss a woman
1:36
Women do not have to deal with this. You don't just walk up and grab and kiss a woman because she's beautiful, because you
1:42
feel like it, or for whatever reason it is that day. And you shouldn't do it to a man either
1:46
You shouldn't do it to anybody. That's somebody's personal space you're invading
1:50
But the real more serious point of this is, as quickly as that man walked up to her and
1:54
kissed her, somebody could have walked up and did something else. It's a dangerous position that these lawmakers take on, Democrat and Republican
2:03
The one thing that I was heartened by is there was an outpouring of support shown by both
2:09
Democrats and Republicans after the incident, where they said, you know, she shouldn't have
2:13
to deal with this, and this is a problem for women everywhere. Now, I'm not a woman, so I don't know if this is a major problem
2:20
If you're a woman, maybe you can tell me, is this a normal thing where men just walk up on the street and kiss you
2:25
I haven't seen this, but maybe this is something women deal with, as some of these people are saying
2:30
I don't know. But I do know that it's not okay. And like I said, just because it's a kiss and not a punch to the face doesn't make it
2:38
any less, you know, traumatic for somebody. This woman was not paying attention
2:43
She didn't consent to be kissed. She doesn't know who this guy is
2:46
And I'm sure he thought of it as funny and, ha ha, I got on the news, and me and my friends
2:51
are going to laugh about it. I imagine he did not mean any harm
2:55
But you just can't do something like that. I think that's the overall arching theme here
3:00
You just can't do that. It's not your right. You don't have a right to touch or kiss or anything people that don't want to be touched
3:08
or kissed or whatever by you. You don't have that right. And that is an assault
3:12
And it's a crime. Keep that in mind. It's a crime. This man can be arrested, prosecuted, and possibly sent to jail or face heavy fines
3:21
It is a crime in just about every jurisdiction I'm aware of
3:25
So word to the wise, don't do this. Men, women, whoever, don't do this
3:32
You know, I'm hopeful that she's not too shaken up by this and I pray that, you know, she
3:38
gets over it and doesn't have that memory next time she gives an interview
3:43
Because stuff like that does cause trauma and it could make you nervous when you're
3:47
out in public or giving another interview. So let's pray that doesn't happen to her
3:51
I want your thoughts on this, really, because I think we're going to have a variety of thoughts
3:56
on this with some people saying it's not a big deal, other people saying it is a big deal
4:01
I do want to hear your thoughts on this, so please leave them in the comments. Also, again, please make sure you like, share, and subscribe because it really helps us out
