Retirement Notice - Liberal Supreme Court Justice Gets The News

Hey ladies and gentlemen, this is Carmine Sabia for Explain America and there could be one less

liberal judge on the Supreme Court real soon. Before we get started, please make sure you like

channel continue to grow. Now you may remember the pressure campaign that there was to get the late

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to retire. She didn't retire and she died on the

bench during the Trump administration. Then there was a push to get Stephen Breyer to retire

another liberal justice. He did retire which brought in Justice Katonji Jackson Brown

But now there is another push and that push is by Senator Richard Blumenthal

He led other pushes to get other Supreme Court justices to retire and he wants Justice Sonia

Sotomayor who's not really that old to retire so Biden can replace her. Why you ask? Well

only reason you would get that and the only reason you would make that push is because you're not

confident Joe Biden's going to win the 2024 election. You're terrified of a Trump presidency

and you know that if Trump wins you're going to have a seventh conservative justice in that

Supreme Court and it's going to be a seven to two advantage. I understand the concern

but I think it is unbecoming for senators, congressmen or anybody to pressure a Supreme

Court justice to retire. We didn't pressure Clarence Thomas or Alito. They're getting up

there in years. I love Thomas. I'd like to clone him and keep him on the court forever

Same with Alito. Wish we could have did it with Scalia but you know here we are. You get what you

get to pressure this justice to retire because they're so terrified of what happened with

Ginsburg. That's what's happening here. They're so terrified of another conservative justice and

another Trump term. They're looking at the same polls we're looking at. They know Biden's in a

lot of trouble. They know they're strangleholding the White House is in a lot of trouble and they

know the Supreme Court is at stake here. For him to do this to Sonia Sotomayor though I think is wrong

and I think it's pigheaded and I think it's nervy. Nervy is a good word. That's a good clean word

You know we should learn a lesson you know and it's not like there's any mystery here

about what the lesson should be. The old saying you know graveyards are full of indispensable

people ourselves in this body included. And there's Senator Sheldon Whitehouse the second

ranked Democrat on the Judiciary Committee who said the six to three court is bad enough today

Run it to seven two and you go from a captured court to a full MAGA court. Certainly I think

if Justice Ginsburg had it to do over again she might have rethought her confidence in her own

health. You might read between the lines here and see a bit of unsolicited advice. Other Democrats

like Senator Mazie Hirono say they have no such advice for Justice Sotomayor who I will note

has given no indication that she plans to leave the court. She's about to reach her 15-year

milestone on the bench this year and nobody doubts she's currently operating at full speed

One person who is not touching this is President Biden. A White House spokesman told me quote

President Biden believes that decisions to retire from the Supreme Court should be made by the

justices themselves and no one else. Now behind the scenes some Democrats are flabbergasted that

prominent liberals aren't being more aggressive about calling on Sotomayor to go. As one Democrat

put it to me they seem more worried about hurting her feelings than protecting their causes. My
