0:02
hi it's lindsy Diane from Dian
0:04
decore.com in this video we're going to
0:06
talk all about how to decorate an empty
0:09
Corner in your home now odds are you
0:12
have a corner that is either empty or
0:16
feels a little bit bare or incomplete or
0:19
underutilized we all have these spaces
0:21
in our home sometimes it's because the
0:23
corner is too small for a piece of
0:24
furniture that we'd like to put there or
0:27
it's too large and the pieces that we do
0:29
have there seem to be kind of floating
0:31
around and aren't really anchored either
0:33
way I'm going to give you five different
0:35
ways to decorate an empty Corner in your
0:38
home starting with number one number one
0:42
which is the most obvious and most
0:44
common is to use an artificial tree or
0:47
plant so here you can use a large
0:50
artificial tree or you can use a cluster
0:53
of smaller plants if you choose to use a
0:57
cluster of smaller plants try to go for
1:00
teered planter stands that will help
1:03
give you that elevation so trees are
1:06
great because they add a little Greenery
1:09
to your space they also add a lot of
1:11
great texture into your space as well
1:14
and they give you this volume that
1:15
really fills out the upper space of your
1:19
room now that being said trees can be
1:23
very expensive especially the higher end
1:27
silk trees they could be a couple
1:29
hundred for a six or 7ft tree if you're
1:33
thinking that a tree is just not in the
1:35
budget first consider you can always
1:39
Thrift a tree um they are harder to find
1:42
but like the one that I have back here I
1:44
would say this is a six foot tree and I
1:46
got it for like seven or eight dollar at
1:48
Goodwill it was the find of the year for
1:51
sure but they can be found but also if
1:55
you're on Amazon don't forget to look
1:57
for the like new items normally they
1:59
will give you the brand new price but
2:02
below it they will have like new items
2:04
and these are the ones that you want to
2:06
look for the ones that are going to come
2:07
from the Amazon warehouse these are the
2:09
ones that are customer returns they have
2:12
been inspected there's nothing wrong
2:14
with them if you know you have highly
2:16
rated item that people love and you see
2:18
a like new I would jump on it because
2:20
you're going to get a great price on it
2:22
you're still going to have a return
2:23
window just the same as if you had
2:25
purchased it new so if you decide you
2:27
don't like it you can always return it
2:29
there's no risk to you you're just
2:31
getting a discount because somebody
2:32
already opened the box so think about
2:35
that if you really want a tree but it's
2:37
a little bit pricey consider going those
2:39
two routes first if not you can always
2:44
plants so like I said look for a tiered
2:48
planter stand that will help you um give
2:52
some elevation to your smaller parted
2:55
plants or if you have some that are
2:57
decent size already just get individual
2:59
plants stands and maybe have two medium
3:01
or large siiz potted plants and put them
3:04
in the corner of your room if you still
3:07
have vertical space to fill after that
3:09
consider um using some wall art or
3:12
mirrors behind those plants to fill in
3:15
that space visually number two is to
3:18
create a Cozy Corner so this is a cozy
3:21
little reading Nook that is going to
3:23
consist of just one single chair a
3:26
lighting source and a little side table
3:29
that's all all you need to create a Cozy
3:31
Corner so if you have a space where you
3:33
can just put a little armchair you could
3:36
do a recliner you can do a glider or a
3:38
rocking chair whatever you prefer go
3:41
ahead and place that chair there if you
3:43
have just a standard accent chair that
3:46
doesn't recline consider getting a
3:47
little foot stool to go in front of it
3:49
so that you can kick your feet up and be
3:51
comfortable and then go ahead and do a
3:54
floor lamp or you can do a little side
3:57
table with a table lamp on it either way
4:00
you want to have a place where you can
4:01
put a book down put a snack down and
4:04
have some lighting you can also use wall
4:06
sconces in the corner and wall mount
4:09
your lighting source as well that's a
4:11
great option either way you want
4:13
something nice and cozy and you can even
4:17
you can add another additional area rug
4:20
around that space add a little
4:22
decorative pillow and a throw blanket to
4:24
mix in some texture into that space and
4:27
make it really intentional the key with
4:30
doing the Cozy Corner is to make sure
4:32
that you have adequate Lighting in that
4:34
space because you don't want to be
4:36
huddled away in some dark corner if it's
4:38
not cozy no one's going to sit there
4:41
they will feel like they're being
4:42
annexed from the main seating area in
4:45
your room and it won't feel inviting but
4:49
having those blankets the pillows a
4:52
place where you can set up a snack a
4:54
place where you can kick your feet up
4:56
and most importantly some nice lighting
4:59
will really create an additional
5:01
functional space out of an empty Corner
5:04
next up is something we don't really see
5:06
that often anymore and that is to use a
5:08
half moon table or you can use a corner
5:11
shelving system now a half moon table is
5:14
just that it's almost like having a
5:16
circular table and you chop it in half
5:18
so you have a flat end that goes up
5:20
against the wall it's a real Space saer
5:23
Furniture option and then it sort of
5:25
bows out and rounds out on the front
5:29
usually they are an open leg system and
5:32
maybe have some shelves beneath them
5:34
it's sort of a light Airy piece of
5:36
furniture I would use a half moon table
5:39
you can put a beautiful vase on top of
5:41
it you could put um little decorative
5:43
vignette and then above it I would mount
5:46
a picture a framed piece of artwork or a
5:50
mirror or some type of wall decor above
5:53
that half moon table just to kind of
5:55
fill out the space this works
5:58
particularly well in if your corner is
6:00
uneven so by this I mean let's say um on
6:04
one end of your corner you have just a
6:07
twoot space before you hit the window
6:09
and on the next end of the corner you
6:11
have more like four feet you have this
6:13
uneven corner and this is something that
6:16
may be difficult to put a corner
6:18
shelving system because you really need
6:20
sort of an equidistant space from the
6:22
corner if you have a situation like that
6:24
go for the half moon table but if you
6:27
have an equal spacing or you have enough
6:29
spacing in your corner that you can put
6:31
a corner shelving system or um you know
6:35
a corner bookshelf go for that because
6:38
they're really designed to maximize that
6:40
space and again it's an open shelving
6:43
system so you can have things on display
6:45
you can have little decorative accents
6:48
dotted throughout the shelves you can
6:49
have stacks of books you can have uh
6:52
candles you can have a little figurines
6:55
you can top it off with a potted plant
6:57
the options are very versatile when you
7:00
have these Corner shelving situations
7:02
and they are really just designed to
7:05
fill out that space properly so the next
7:08
time you are thinking about decorating
7:12
an empty Corner consider making it a
7:14
little bit more decorative by having
7:17
either a half moon table and a piece of
7:19
wall art or a corner shelving system
7:22
number four is to use a basket or a
7:25
storage trunk a large wicker basket is
7:28
something that I talk about all the time
7:30
because they are just perfect for a
7:34
living room a playroom a family room a
7:36
home office pretty much any room you can
7:39
utilize a large wicker basket you can
7:41
use them to store blankets to store toys
7:45
shoes magazines you can use it as a
7:49
hamper and store your dirty clothes
7:51
there you can use it to store books and
7:53
game boards and puzzles and have it nice
7:57
and tidy and out of sight keeps the
8:00
Clutter at Bay and they're very easy to
8:02
use because you can just drop your
8:03
things in there and go if they have a
8:05
lid on them that's even better but these
8:09
are very easy Storage Solutions because
8:12
they're one they're really pretty if you
8:14
get a nice woven basket it's just a
8:17
beautiful piece to look at the natural
8:19
colors the natural textures you're
8:22
bringing into your space will really
8:24
accent your designs and they are just
8:28
easy for everyone to access and for
8:30
everyone to use which means that your
8:32
space will stay tidy it stays
8:34
kid-friendly so that your kids can pull
8:36
toys out of it if they want and they
8:38
know exactly where they go again when
8:40
it's time to put them away there isn't
8:41
an elaborate organization system you can
8:43
just toss them and go now alternatively
8:46
if you have a larger space instead of
8:48
using like a rounded basket you could go
8:51
for a storage trunk you can still go for
8:54
a wicker storage trunk or you can get a
8:56
wood one you can have a a you know a
8:58
steel one with some like hammered metal
9:01
on it they come in a lot of different
9:03
sizes and styles you can get a really
9:07
trunk you again you have the storage to
9:09
put lots of things in there and then
9:12
above the wall I would go ahead and put
9:14
a piece of artwork to accompany that
9:17
corner so that you kind of fill it out
9:20
visually so the storage trunk and the
9:22
basket are no-brainers they're easy to
9:25
find there are so many different styles
9:27
to choose from and they're a perfect way
9:29
to decorate an empty corner and last but
9:32
not least is to use a storage cabinet or
9:36
wardrobe so if you have a corner that is
9:41
let's say off of your kitchen this is a
9:44
great place to store your broom you may
9:47
have like a um like a vacuum mop
9:50
situation like I do you could have a
9:54
robot uh vacuum docking station that
9:56
goes right underneath the cabinet this
9:59
is a great way to store away your
10:01
cleaning tools but have them easy access
10:05
by the kitchen so if you have a corner
10:09
that is just empty and you really could
10:12
use a little bit more functionality in
10:14
an adjacent room even if it's not that
10:17
room that that cabinet is in or that
10:19
corner is in if it's an adjacent room
10:21
consider using a cabinet there it's just
10:24
going to look like a decorative piece of
10:26
furniture when the doors are closed no
10:27
one knows what's behind there but inside
10:30
you could have a series of mops and
10:32
vacuums and cleaning cloths and cleaning
10:34
supplies remember a lot of these things
10:37
that um if there things that you have to
10:39
assemble on your own you don't have to
10:41
put the shelves in it may come with
10:43
shelves but you don't necessarily need
10:45
to use them if you need the height for a
10:48
vacuum or a mop or a broom instead use
10:52
the little sticky command hook things
10:54
that like allow you to um hang on the
10:57
back of a cabinet or on the back of the
10:59
use those to help hold up and organize
11:02
your cleaning items and you will be all
11:06
set you don't need to use all of the
11:08
shelves that come in there make it work
11:10
for you and you'll have a beautiful clo
11:12
storage system in what was otherwise a
11:16
underutilized empty corner of your room
11:19
