On September 19th, 1895, the Dutch ocean liner EDAM, built in 1883 by Nederlandsche Stoomboot Mij., on voyage from New York to Amsterdam with general cargo, was lost after a collision with SS TURKISTAN in foggy weather 50 miles southeast of Start Point.
