On Monday, Nigel Farage made some of the boldest policy proposals on immigration seen in many generations at a press conference. But the Reform UK leader has since appeared to row back on key aspects of pledges amid mounting questions over whether his figures actually stand up and fierce criticism of the viability of the policies. On Monday, Farage revealed he would abolish Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) – or, settled status – for hundreds of thousands of migrants. As part of an attack on the so-called Boris wave – otherwise high net migration levels seen during the Boris Johnson years – Farage said the ending of settled status for migrants would make £234bn in welfare savings over several decades.
