Prime Minister Kier Stama has met President Joe Biden face to face for the first time at the 75th anniversary NATO Summit
0:15
making his debut as UK Prime Minister on the world stage. So how significant is this meeting
0:22
Well, it's the first time Sir Kier Stama has made an overseas trip as the UK Prime Minister
0:28
So it's seen as an opportunity for the US and the UK to cement this special relationship
0:35
For me to be able to say that our position on the world stage leading on issues like defence and security on climate change and on energy are so important
0:47
So a really good opportunity. But now we go on and do the work in council. Ahead of the meeting, Stama said we make a unique contribution in Europe to NATO and therefore it's a very good opportunity
0:58
opportunity for me to talk to the president about how we take forward the important work at this summit
1:05
During the meeting, Stama also presented Biden with a personalized arsenal shirt
1:10
with the number 46 on it in reference to his presidential number
1:14
The meeting between the world leaders comes as questions of swirled about whether the 81 president is too old to run for a second term with Biden continuing to lose crucial support from his colleagues big celebrities and donors
1:30
Most recently, Oscar award-winning actor George Clooney wrote in a New York Times op-ed that
1:36
while he loves Joe Biden, the Democrats need a new nominee. Stama also met with Ukraine's Vladimir Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Schultzschult
1:47
in a push for a significant improvement of security ties with Europe
1:52
The trip also comes as the new Labor government faces questioning around its defence spending promises
1:59
Ahead of his departure to Washington, Kier Stahmer said that the UK is committed to spending
2:05
2.5% of national income on defence, but is still refusing to put a timeline on when the promise
2:12
will be delivered. The UK currently spends just over 2% of its GDP on defence, with NATO members pledging
2:20
to spend at least 2% of their GDP on defence by 2024, but many are falling short of this target
2:28
The Labour government has insisted that it will hit its new 2.5% spending target when
2:34
finances allow. Here at City AM, we would like to know. How do you think the new UK Prime Minister is performing on the world stage
