Retail investors are facing a £40 million nightmare

Alderley Group was an unregulated firm operating in the north of England that promised everyday people massive returns of up to 17% a year, pitching it as a risk-free way to help house low-income families.
But the reality was very different. Payouts completely stopped in January, the firm faced a winding-up petition in May, and it officially went into administration by June. The scheme was completely unregulated and these retail investors have virtually no financial protection. To make matters worse, the founders have vanished and cannot be contacted by any of their backers.
