0:00
begin with breaking news. A man's been
0:01
arrested by the National Crime Agency.
0:03
It's part of an investigation into a
0:05
cyber incident which affected flights at
0:07
Heathrow and other European airports
0:09
over the course of the weekend. I want
0:11
to take us straight to Sky Asha Hernag.
0:13
Asha, what are we hearing?
0:14
We know that thousands of people are
0:16
still being affected by the impact of
0:18
those delays right across European
0:20
airports. Hephro airport, Berlin,
0:22
Brussels airport, passengers within
0:24
them, all affected by this perceived to
0:27
be ransomware attack as reported by the
0:29
European Agency for cyber security. And
0:32
now the National Crime Agency here in
0:34
the UK have made the arrest of one
0:37
individual as they look into this
0:39
investigation. This was some of the
0:41
disruption as IT systems that were used
0:43
for checking boarding that forced
0:45
airlines uh to essentially ask
0:47
passengers to check in manually. This
0:48
was a problem that stemmed from Collins
0:51
Aerospace, a software provider
0:53
essentially that works with several
0:54
airlines right across the world. And now
0:56
we've learned from the National Crime
0:58
Agency that this man has been arrested
1:00
in the UK in the West Sussex area as
1:03
part of their investigation into this
1:05
so-called cyber incident. The incident,
1:08
as we know, was reported on the 19th of
1:10
September and as I say, affected a large
1:12
number of passengers and airlines too.
1:16
the impact of which still being fa uh
1:19
felt. And we understand this man is in
1:21
his 40s, as I say, is from the West
1:23
Sussex area and he was arrested
1:25
yesterday evening on suspicion of
1:27
Computer Misuse Act offenses. And we've
1:30
got a statement from the deputy director
1:33
of the head of the NCA, the National
1:35
Crime Agency's National Cyber Crime
1:37
Unit, uh Paul Foster. He has said
1:40
although this arrest is a positive step,
1:42
the investigation into this incident is
1:44
in its early stages and remains ongoing.
1:47
Cyber crime is a persistent global
1:49
threat that continues to cause
1:51
significant disruption to the UK.
1:53
Alongside our partners here and
1:54
overseas, the National Crime Agency is
1:57
committed to reducing that threat in
1:58
order to protect the British public.
2:00
That man in his 40s, the NCA say, has
2:03
been released on conditional bail.
