We are going from Port Alberni to Tofino, let’s go! Before we left, we made ourselves a “Great Canadian Breakfast” which included - pancakes with maple syrup, eggs, maple bacon, toast and local raspberries. We made it at our Airbnb which had an amazing view of the Somass River known be home to a lot of bears. We drove down the street to the Paper Mill Dam to see if you could spot wildlife. We didn’t expect to spot wild sea lions hunting salmon! Although many consider the sea lions to be harmful to the salmon population, it was interesting to watch these animals swim, hunt and play. We continued the adventure toward Tofino, making a stop at Taylor Arm Provincial Park, which surrounds Sproat Lake. The massive mountains and the crystal clear water was the perfect setting for a swim! After, we drove straight to Tofino because we were hungry! One of the more popular street foods in Tofino can be found at Tacofino. They specialize in tacos, burritos and gringas. We ordered: fried fish taco ($6.00 CAD / $4.48 USD), tuna taco ($7.75 CAD / $5.79 USD), beef taco ($6.75 CAD / $5.04 USD), and black bean taco ($4.50 CAD / $3.36 USD), which is vegetarian. Each taco was layered with fresh ingredients and herbs that complimented each other. Our favorite was the tuna! Tacofino has multiple locations around BC, but this one is the original! Our next stop was to Chesterman Beach (free). This beach hosts MASSIVE waves perfect for surfing. Walking along the beach is worth the visit alone, and the sand is beautiful and fine. After watching the surfers, we took off back to Port Alberni, because the weather was changing fast. Although we didn’t make it to J & L Drive In diner, we made some delicious home cooked supper instead. Spaghetti and garlic butter asparagus!
