I Ate Newfoundland Seafood for 24 Hours

Jun 29, 2026
For many Canadians — or anyone lucky enough to have visited — the word NEWFOUNDLAND carries a feeling. It’s the raw beauty of the island, the humour and kindness of the Newfies, and for me, someone who had never been, the stories from my grandmother’s childhood on the Rock. Sitting off Canada’s eastern edge, Newfoundland can feel less like another province and more like another country. I came here to explore the food — the cod, the wild berries and of course the bounty of North Atlantic seafood. But I left Newfoundland with something much deeper: an appreciation for a place I somehow felt connected to before I arrived, and the feeling that I’d just discovered Canada's best kept culinary secret.
