Here are five ways to decorate cakes
0:01
using parchment or wax paper. If you're
0:03
nervous to pipe onto a cake, use this
0:06
trick. Trace around your cake pan onto a
0:08
piece of parchment or wax paper to show
0:10
you the size of your cake. And then pipe
0:12
onto that instead on a tray or cutting
0:15
board so that you can lift this up and
0:16
put it into the freezer for 10 minutes
0:18
to chill and set the piping. And then
0:20
just pick each piece up and press it
0:22
onto your cake. Write something onto
0:24
parchment or wax paper and cut the
0:26
letters or numbers out. and use that
0:28
paper as a stencil, wrapping it around
0:30
your cake after it's been in the fridge
0:32
for at least an hour to chill and set
0:34
the frosting on the cake. Spread more
0:36
buttercream over the stencil. And if you
0:37
like, you can press sprinkles or
0:39
colorful sugar into that buttercream.
0:41
But put the cake on a tray to do this so
0:43
the sprinkles or sugar doesn't go
0:45
everywhere. When you peel the stencil
0:46
off, you'll have a glittery message on
0:48
your cake. To get rid of these seams
0:50
left behind where you swiped your cake
0:52
scraper or textured cake comb away from
0:54
the cake, you could position these so
0:56
that they're all at the back of the
0:57
cake. Or to smooth them out, place a
0:59
piece of parchment paper or wax paper
1:01
over the seam and gently press through
1:03
the paper with your finger. That blends
1:05
the texture together without damaging
1:06
the frosting. So the seam goes from this
1:09
to this. This one's my favorite. Cut
1:12
parchment or wax paper into a strip
1:13
that's long enough to wrap around your
1:15
cake. And fold it in half and in half
1:16
again and again until you can't fold it
1:18
anymore. Twist it around and fold the
1:20
other way to make a grid of horizontal
1:22
and vertical creases across the paper.
1:24
Draw a dot everywhere the creases meet
1:26
or I'm dotting every second one for my
1:28
design. Wrap the paper around a cake and
1:30
poke through the dots with a wooden
1:32
skewer or a toothpick or a pin to make a
1:34
pattern of little holes in the cake,
1:36
which you can either pipe into or push a
1:38
round sprinkle into each hole to create
1:40
a perfectly neat pattern on your cake.
1:42
If you're nervous to pipe straight onto
1:44
a cake, piping onto parchment or wax
1:46
paper is much easier because you can
1:47
rest your wrist down on the paper as you
1:49
write. Then just put it into the freezer
1:51
for 5 minutes, lift it up, and place the
1:53
letters on your cake. Follow British
