0:07
reading of the Book of Genesis the Lord
0:10
saw that man's wickedness had increased
0:12
in the earth and how the plans of his
0:14
heart always tended toward evil then the
0:16
Lord regretted having made man on the
0:18
earth and his heart was very grieved and
0:20
he said I will destroy man whom I
0:23
created from the face of the Earth and
0:25
with him the animals the reptiles and
0:28
even the birds of the earth heaven
0:30
because I regret having made them but
0:33
Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord
0:36
Seven the Lord said to Noah enter the
0:38
ark with your entire family for you are
0:40
the only righteous man I have seen in
0:42
this generation take seven pairs of all
0:45
the clean animals male and female and
0:47
take seven pairs of the unclean animals
0:49
a pair male and female you shall also
0:52
take seven pairs of the birds of the air
0:55
male and female so that their species
0:57
may remain alive on the face of the
0:59
Earth 40 nights and I will destroy every
1:03
living thing that I have made from the
1:05
surface of the Earth Noah did everything
1:07
the Lord commanded him and when the
1:10
seven days had passed the Waters of the
1:12
flood fell upon the Earth word of the
1:25
God proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus
1:28
Christ according to St Mark
1:30
Glory To You Lord at that time the
1:33
disciples had forgotten to take bread
1:36
they only had one loaf of bread with
1:38
them on the boat then Jesus warned them
1:41
pay attention and Beware of the leaven
1:43
of the Pharisees and the leav of Herod
1:45
the disciples said among themselves it
1:48
is because we have no bread but Jesus
1:51
understood and asked them why do you
1:53
argue about the lack of bread do you not
1:56
yet understand and do not understand are
1:59
you hardened in heart having eyes you do
2:02
not see and having ears do you not hear
2:06
do you not remember when I distributed
2:08
Five Loaves to 5,000 people how many
2:11
baskets did you collect full of
2:13
fragments they replied 12 Jesus asked
2:17
and when I shared seven loaves of bread
2:19
with 4,000 people how many baskets did
2:22
you collect full of fragments they
2:24
replied seven Jesus said and you still
2:28
do not understand word of Salvation
2:41
Lord my dear Brothers and Sisters in
2:44
Christ today we are called to reflect on
2:46
readings that invite us to look at our
2:48
faith with depth and courage in Genesis
2:51
we are confronted with the gravity of
2:53
human sin which caused God's heart to be
2:56
deeply saddened in Mark's gospel Jesus
2:59
warned warns us about the danger of a
3:01
superficial Faith one that does not
3:03
penetrate the hearts and challenges us
3:05
to discern the true lessons of his word
3:08
let's start with Genesis where we hear
3:10
about a dark time in human history the
3:13
Lord saw that the wickedness of man had
3:15
spread throughout the Earth and that all
3:17
the thoughts in his heart were only Evil
3:19
all the time this is a harrowing reality
3:22
a sad snapshot of human sin God looked
3:26
at the Earth and saw corruption violence
3:30
he felt the pain of Injustice and
3:32
selfishness that dominated people's
3:34
hearts my brothers this verse puts us in
3:37
front of a mirror could it be that at
3:40
some point when looking at the world
3:42
around us we don't feel like God in that
3:44
moment the violence selfishness greed
3:47
and lack of compassion we see on our
3:49
streets in the media and even in our
3:51
closest relationships can make us
3:53
question the state of our own Hearts
3:55
however the story doesn't end there God
3:59
in his infinite Mercy decides to act he
4:02
finds in Noah a righteous man someone
4:05
who still preserved human dignity and
4:07
Fidelity to God Noah then becomes the
4:10
instrument through which God will save
4:12
the rest of creation giving him the
4:14
mission to build the ark a sign of
4:16
Salvation in the midst of Destruction
4:18
the ark becomes a symbol of Christ
4:20
himself who offers us a way of Salvation
4:23
in the midst of the destruction of sin
4:24
and death now I ask you to imagine for a
4:28
moment being in Noah's shoes
4:30
he was given a gigantic task and perhaps
4:33
an unpopular Mission building an ark at
4:36
a time when no one believed what he said
4:39
no one saw the need to repent how many
4:42
times have we too received invitations
4:44
to be faithful to build our own Ark in
4:47
the midst of the storms of life God
4:49
calls us to be Witnesses of his mercy
4:51
and his Justice even when the world
4:54
around us seems indifferent or even
4:55
hostile to that call Noah's story is
4:58
therefore an invitation to remain firm
5:01
in our faith even when it seems that
5:03
everyone around us is heading in another
5:05
Direction like him we must trust God's
5:08
promise and have the courage to live by
5:10
it even when the world doesn't
5:12
understand now we change the scene to
5:15
the gospel of Mark Jesus once again
5:18
confronts his disciples with a profound
5:20
lesson and he teaches us that true faith
5:23
is not that which only sees the visible
5:25
but that which perceives the invisible
5:27
that is not limited to appearances when
5:30
Jesus talks about the leaven of the
5:31
Pharisees and Herod he is drawing
5:33
attention to the danger of a superficial
5:35
Faith which does not penetrate the heart
5:38
and which is lost in the distractions of
5:39
the world Jesus warning to his disciples
5:42
is clear Beware of the leaven of the
5:44
Pharisees and the leaven of Herod leaven
5:47
here is a metaphor for sin and unbelief
5:50
which can creep into our lives silently
5:52
and imperceptibly like yeast and dough
5:55
for the Pharisees the concern was with
5:57
appearances and external traditions
6:00
while Herod represented the search for
6:01
Power and domination Jesus then
6:04
challenges his disciples to see beyond
6:07
superficialities not to be like those
6:09
who seek only external signs or temporal
6:12
victories true Faith requires a
6:14
transformed heart a willingness to go
6:16
beyond human expectations and understand
6:18
that the kingdom of God is not something
6:20
that can be seen with physical eyes but
6:22
something that is found in the heart and
6:24
inner life my brothers and sisters like
6:27
the disciples we often cannot
6:29
immediately understand what Jesus wants
6:31
to teach us they were confused worried
6:34
about the bread but Jesus leads them to
6:37
reflect on something much deeper when
6:39
Jesus rebukes them he is calling them to
6:42
awaken to a more mature understanding of
6:44
Faith a faith that is not limited to
6:46
immediate and material concerns but that
6:48
is capable of perceiving the love of God
6:50
present in the small and large actions
6:52
of Life how many times in our daily
6:55
lives do we care more about the bread of
6:57
our journey than the bread of life
6:58
itself we are often taken by urgent
7:01
needs by the worries of everyday life
7:04
and we forget that Christ is with us
7:06
that he is the true sustenance the true
7:08
Ark in the midst of the storms of life
7:10
today's Gospel challenges us to look
7:13
beyond the surface and let God's word
7:15
transform our hearts it is not enough to
7:17
just listen but we must let the word
7:20
infiltrate our lives and transform us
7:22
from the inside out just as Noah was
7:24
able to build the ark in obedience to
7:26
God we are called to build our lives on
7:28
the rock of faith Faith resisting The
7:30
Temptations and influences of the world
7:32
that seek to divert us from the path of
7:34
Truth now dear brothers let us reflect
7:38
on how we can live these lessons in our
7:40
daily lives firstly we are invited to
7:43
keep our faith firm even when the world
7:46
around us seems lost like Noah we must
7:49
be faithful Witnesses of God's mercy and
7:52
Justice we must trust that just as God
7:54
made a covenant with Noah he also makes
7:56
a covenant with us offering us salvation
7:59
through his son Jesus Christ secondly we
8:03
are challenged to look at our faith in a
8:05
deeper way we cannot allow the ferment
8:08
of superficiality and distraction to
8:10
keep us away from what really matters we
8:13
must seek the kingdom of God and his
8:14
righteousness before anything else
8:17
knowing that all other things will be
8:18
given to us in addition finally let us
8:21
be like disciples who even in the midst
8:24
of confusion and doubts seek to
8:26
understand and follow the teachings of
8:28
Jesus he is always guiding us leading us
8:31
to the truth and helping us discern what
8:34
is truly important in life let us now
8:36
ask God for the grace of a deeper and
8:39
truer Faith may he give us the courage
8:41
to build our lives on his word the
8:43
strength to stand firm in adversity and
8:46
the wisdom to discern his presence amid
8:48
the distractions of the world Lord we
8:51
want to thank you for your mercy and
8:52
love we ask that you strengthen us in
8:55
our faith just as you did with Noah may
8:58
we be faith faithful Witnesses of your
9:00
truth always seeking your kingdom in our
9:03
lives give us Lord an open and
9:06
transformed heart capable of
9:09
understanding and living your word amen
9:11
may God's grace accompany us and help us
9:14
build our lives with faith hope and love
9:17
always trusting in his promises
9:28
amen friend Michael the Archangel defend
9:31
Us in battle be our protection against
9:33
the wickedness and snares of the devil
9:36
may God rebuke him we humbly pray and do
9:40
thou o Prince of the Heavenly Host by
9:43
the power of God cast into hell Satan
9:46
and all the evil spirits who prow
9:48
throughout the world seeking the ruin of
