this is Bay radio I'm Jeremy Kenton now
0:04
we have some very good positive news but
0:08
we also have a warning now remember that
0:11
kovat 19 is opening up the possibility
0:15
of is moving to phase one now what that
0:19
means is that there's far more freedom
0:22
but some alarming facts you've got to
0:26
remember that the reason why we're
0:28
moving to that phase one is because
0:30
there's more availability in hospitals
0:33
should the number of cases increase and
0:36
that means that we mustn't let our guard
0:38
down now on my way to work yesterday I'm
0:41
still seeing patients originally it was
0:44
just emergency patients but noticing
0:46
more chronic cases as well what's
0:49
happening is that people are letting
0:51
their guard down when I was on my way to
0:53
work yesterday I was quite alarmed at
0:56
the number of people who were out for
0:58
their one hour of exercise who weren't
1:00
wearing gloves who weren't wearing masks
1:02
and were in groups now if I remember but
1:07
the effect of a mask is it going to
1:13
protect you it'll offer some protection
1:15
it's not going to prevent things from
1:17
happening but if you don't wear it when
1:20
you're in contact with other people
1:21
you're a risk of giving them exposure
1:24
and they are also risk for you of giving
1:28
you exposure so they're not foolproof
1:31
and there are different types as we know
1:33
but you really should be wearing it and
1:36
in some regions and under certain
1:38
conditions it's mandatory it's
1:40
compulsory that you should wear it
1:42
especially if you have a passenger in
1:44
your vehicle and the other thing that
1:46
I've noticed is that people really are
1:48
not wearing them properly many people
1:50
are wearing them flat so that they're
1:52
not offering full protection remember
1:54
that before you put it on just pinch if
1:56
you've got this tight the nosepiece
1:58
halfway through to this fold in half
2:00
pinch it and it will mold to the shape
2:03
over your nose far better
2:06
and remember that you should only apply
2:08
it using the strings or the elastic and
2:14
that simple trick if it is loose just
2:17
attach a paper clip to the bank which
2:20
will mean that it gives you more
2:22
movement and tightens the whole thing up
2:25
now
2:26
gloves once again and masked if you have
2:30
the disposable type they are exactly
2:32
what they say they're disposable and
2:34
you're meant to be getting rid of them
2:35
after you've worn them as soon as they
2:37
become moist from your breath normally
2:39
which is about an hour to two hours
2:41
chuck them in the bin and the same goes
2:44
for gloves these are nitrile gloves
2:46
which are actually washable in an
2:48
alcohol solution so they're reusable but
2:50
with the disposable types throw them
2:53
away and remember take them off properly
2:56
so when you're taking them off use one
2:59
gloves to peel the other one off but
3:02
we've got to be even more vigilant
3:05
because people were at the very
3:06
beginning in terms of hand washing and
3:09
also the use of alcohol but remember and
3:14
I see this so often in supermarkets
3:16
people are just putting one tiny dab and
3:19
then just going like this that's not
3:22
sufficient in the same way that you
3:25
should be spending about 20 to 30
3:26
seconds washing your hands the same
3:28
thing applies with alcohol scrub in
3:31
between the fingers take rings and
3:33
jewelry off watches off when you're
3:36
actually applying it it's so important
3:39
that you're actually covering the
3:41
alcohol over the whole of your hands not
3:43
just a quick dab and rub but remember
3:47
please as we open up as hopefully we
3:50
will on Monday - phase 1 please still be
3:55
vigilant please still be sensible keep
3:57
your social distancing and take great
4:01
care of yourself in that respect but
4:03
also as people are now beginning to
4:05
exercise more and I've seen some
4:07
patients in the last few days where
4:09
they've suddenly started doing forms of
4:11
exercise that either they're not used to
4:13
or forgetting that they're taken
4:15
such a long break away from the exercise
4:17
that it's so important that they warm up
4:20
and limber down afterwards and even that
4:23
goes for brisk walking just very very
4:26
gentle stretches to prepare the muscles
4:29
for the activity that they're going to
4:31
do and for those of you for those of us
4:33
who haven't done a lot of exercise for a
4:35
long time over the last eight weeks that
4:37
really is very important so remember
4:43
hand-washing use of alcohol drinking as
4:47
well as obviously putting on your hands
4:50
if it helps and just taking great care
4:53
to remember that this isn't over and
4:56
that you've got to be as vigilant now as
4:59
we were at the beginning so I wish you
5:02
all the very best about
