2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid Revealed

As promised last year, Subaru has just introduced the 2025 Forrester Hybrid, or the Forrester E Boxer Hybrid for our Canadian viewers

As one of the last vehicles in the segment to Go Hybrid, this new Forster should better position the brand against some fierce competition in this segment

The hybrid system in the Forster will be quite similar to the one announced in the 26 Cross Truck Hybrid a few weeks ago

It's an all new system that Subaru is calling next gen series parallel e-boxer hybrid

That's a lot of words, but like other versions of the Forster, this hybrid uses a 2.5-liter flat four cylinder engine

Unlike the gas models this is a newly developed Atkinson engine that has a transaxle paired with two electric motors one that a generator and one that a traction motor A lot of the electric hybrid bits and pieces are sourced from Toyota but the rest of the mechanics such as engine transmission drive train they all Subaru products

The traction motor, the one that powers the wheels, makes 118 horsepower and 199 pound feet of torque on its own

The gas engine makes 162 horsepower and 154 pound feet of torque

Combined, the total system makes 194 peak horsepower, but we don't have figures on it

torque. That puts it at the lower end of the scale in terms of total power with hybrid versions

of the Toyota Rav 4 and Mazda CX50 making 219 horsepower while the Honda CRV makes 204 horsepower

and the Hyundai Tucson Kia Sportage siblings produce 231 horsepower. Despite the figures on paper

hybrids deliver power in different ways so until we drive the new Forrester hybrid

we can't comment on actual power delivery and energy usage. Fuel economy is another factor

we'll have to wait and see for official figures. But Subaru, states there should be roughly a 40% increase in efficiency in the city and a 25% increase

in efficiency overall Subaru has told us that fuel tank size is unchanged in the hybrid which should allow for a total of 581 miles of total driving range Unlike some competitors the 2025 Subaru Forster Hybrid has an electric motor sitting behind the gas engine

The ponies from both the engine and the motors are channeled through a continuously variable transmission

to the brand symmetrical all-wheel drive system. This means the Forster hybrid will have all the same capability as regular Forster's

with technology like X-Mode, Hildacent Control, Active Torfecturing, and more. The Forrester Hybrid also includes the ubiquitous 8.7 inches or 220 millimeters of ground clearance

found on every non-wilderness SUV in the Forrester lineup. To ensure the heavier, more complex hybrid performs just as well as regular Forrester's in crash testing

extra bracing has been included in the vehicle to stiffen it up

As we're already seeing, the next generation Subaru E-boxer hybrid power train is designed to integrate

seamlessly into Subaru products. We bet good money on an Outback hybrid appearing one day

Unlike some competitors, the Forster Hybrid will look nearly identical to non-Wilderness Forsters

albeit with a hybrid or e or both badges on the fenders and liftgate depending on country Inside it a similar story with standard eyesight driver assist technology the tablet style 11 inch infotainment screen as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android auto capability

There is one big change inside, and that is the Driver Information Center

The 25 Forrester Hybrid will exclusively get the new 12.3-inch, fully customizable digital gauge system

and it includes hybrid-specific graphics. But unlike most competitors, drivers and the Forrester can choose between

the standard onboard TomTom navigation system or using Apple CarPlay, they can use Apple Maps

The 2025 Super Forrester will be available as a fully loaded model only in Canada, while in the

United States there will be multiple trims of the hybrid available. More information like

details, specs and pricing will be available at a later date, but the good news is we won't have to

wait long as the Forster Hybrid should go on sale this spring
