But traveling comes with information risk. Now, there's a number of other areas in our lives where we want to carry around information, but we worry about losing it

For example, medical information. Now, wouldn't it be really handy if you have medical issues when you end up in an emergency room

if they have access to all of your medical data immediately? Now, that's where this ostensibly comes in

It looks like just another rubber friendship bracelet sort of thing, but hidden underneath it is an ATSB bracelet

8 gig USB flash drive. Now, the flash drive, it does support using encryption software

You can put medical, financial, travel docs, scans of your passport, insurance documents

of all your data, and you don't need internet access. Plug this into a PC, and as you can see

there's a couple of files that are right there in the clear and open, but if you double click on that start self-safe

it launches a program called EasyLLLLLLLL, which requires a password once you enter the password you then have access to a lot of hidden data on this device That one thing that really important to notice is that you can put data in the clear on this

So I think that it's actually two levels of access. So you can have some data that anyone can get to

It might be your travel itinerary with all the phone numbers and the addresses of all your hotels, for example

Or it might be public facing medical data that doesn't have any big issues with confidentiality if someone else notices it or reads it from you

Then you have the encrypted data, which you can put on here. And that encrypted data, you can actually have password protected

And so if you don't give them the password and they don't use that easy lock decryption program, they can't even see the files

Now, they can figure out that they're there. They can find the encrypted sub-directory, but they can't open the individual files to actually see your personal data

So that's really cool. And one of the things the company does is they do have a nicely organized PDF that you can fill out

So if you want to spend the time, you can go through step by step, save all of that data, maybe do it for someone or loved one or something

So there's a lot I like about this. It is completely waterproof

It's 8 gig of storage, which doesn't sound like a lot, but if you're not saving your favorite 50 movies

And I feel like maybe they haven't quite. So number one, if I put this into a Macintosh, I can see the public data

I can get to the encrypted data which is kind of interesting because EasyLock the program actually has a Mac compatible version but SelfSafe doesn include that so their comment is we working on the Mac side of things

I assume at some point that will show up, but the bigger issue to me is the design of the whole thing

By having it look like this, it makes me think, well, are they trying to compete with like the medic alert sort of things

and if so, then why doesn't this actually have meaningful data on it that might say you're allergic to penicillin, right

If I'm unconscious, how do they know my password? So I can have, you know, absolutely critical, life-saving data on here, but if I'm unconscious, they can't actually pop it off and figure out what the heck all that data is

Which leads me to my second observation is that I wish this looked like a really cool piece of jewelry

they might be interested in this. Whereas if it just looked like, say, even an inexpensive medic alert

pretty sweet. So, I guess, my sort of overall summary of this is that it's a really interesting idea

but I feel like this is Rev 1. And I think when they do their second generation of this product, it's going to be

neatly tucked into this device that on my wrist And as long as this stays on my wrist I always have backup copies of my passport my plane tickets phone numbers for everyone that important
