The JOBY Wavo AIR Wireless Microphone System demonstrates that you don't have to be tethered to your camera to get great audio. With a range of 150-feet (50-meters) and more accessories than you can shake a stick at, this setup with its two tiny transmitters and equally small receiver will change your video recording experience. Compatible with Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, DSLR, and video camera systems. Includes long-range mic demo too.

A wireless microphone system with a 150 foot range
0:03
Let's check it out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:15
Well, this plus this unit. They are the Jobie Wavo Air Wireless microphone system
0:21
And this unit, with the red on the bottom, is the receiver. And then this and this are transmitters
0:28
and they have 150 foot or 50 meter range. They operate on the 2.4 gigahertz frequency
0:36
They have omnidirectional microphones, and the transmitter actually has a built-in microphone
0:41
so I could use it just like this, but it includes a ton of other stuff
0:47
including lavalier microphones. So you can easily plug one in to the side here
0:54
and now I could put this on someone's back or in their pocket
0:58
and then wire this so that the microphone is right by their mouth and then there's no wire so then the
1:06
receiver unit I then have to choose I have two options it works with both smartphones and cameras so
1:15
the one cable for the smartphone literally says smartphone so I'd use the other one and let's see here we go
1:23
so yep that works and then I would plug this into to, for example, my camera. In fact, let me give you a quick demo
1:33
Hey there, I'm way over here, and as you can hear, the microphone's doing just fine
1:38
Now, I will make one observation is that if you completely block the line of sight between
1:44
the transmitter and the receiver then you will cut out audio So I going to keep talking as I turn and you hear what I mean There a moment in time where you lose my voice
1:57
But I consider that a minor hiccup that's true of many of these devices
2:02
Otherwise, this gives me an enormous amount of flexibility. Cool. Let me jump back on camera
2:07
They operate, like I said, on the 2.4 gigahertz frequency, and it's 50 to 18,000 hertz frequency response
2:14
with the signal to noise ratio of greater than 78 decibels. There are two of these transmitters
2:21
There's one of these receivers. You charge them. It's all charging via USBC
2:27
And no big surprise. It has one, two, three USBA to USBC charging cables
2:34
It would be really cool if they had one with a three-way splitter so you could charge it all at once
2:39
But it's up to you to figure out how to sort of time shift all that
2:43
but overnight you should be able to get everything charged up, at which point you have a six-hour playback or six-hour battery life
2:52
Now, probably after five hours and 30 minutes, I'd be a little cautious just in case you lose some critical audio
2:58
but even if you're just going to use it for five hours, that's a solid battery life for these
3:04
And they have this great modular clip system, and it's on both the receiver and the transmitters
3:10
So this one I have, let me pop it off, I have actually put in, and I can take off, the little sort of lapel clip
3:19
As you can see in this close-up, you basically put the attachment into the circle and then turn it until it clicks and locks
3:27
Super easy to work with. And then that gives you two clips for the two transmitters
3:33
It gives you two wind socks if you want to use the let see where the other one the two Lavalier microphones with the transmitters And then there also this sort of clip on I think this is more useful for the receiver
3:48
So I might just do something like this. And then I could actually like clip it on to my tripod or something
3:56
And that gives it so it doesn't just hang on the wire. And let's see
4:00
And then there's this, which looks like you could put a strap through
4:04
And then finally, there is this magnetic one. And this might be the one a lot of people use
4:12
because now you should be able to click it right onto some metal, which again could work for your tripod
4:17
But all in all, I have to say that these sort of wireless microphone kits
4:24
come with a lot of stuff. Oh, and there's one more. Because there's actually like a necklace that you could use
4:30
So you could actually have it. If you have some on-air talent or something
4:35
and they just don't have anything you can clip a mic to, you can use this and you can have this be something that you clip to
4:42
So it really covers all your needs. It's very straightforward. The instructions give you lots of details on how to do things
4:50
I will say that it's a little confusing that there's the smartphone wire
4:55
and the digital camera wire, but a little experimentation before you go live will give you the ability
5:02
to make sure you have the right one plugged in for your configuration, and it works really well
5:08
I really like these sort of devices. They are spendy, but the flexibility that you get is just really fantastic
5:15
So, that's really everything. I really wanted to give you the demo
5:19
I really like it. I like this design with the red and the black
5:23
I think it's bold and visually interesting. And if you wanted to hide that because you maybe had someone wearing a white blouse who you were going to interview and of course you can use both simultaneously then that something where you clip it onto the back of their clothing
5:38
and then you use the wireless lavely or mic, just like you would with any other audio gear
5:44
So, yes, they're visually very arresting, but that's not something you necessarily need to see when you're on camera
5:50
So really flexible Android, iPhone, tablets, Mac, P. It's going to work with your DSLR
5:58
It'll work with your video camera, which is how I did my demo
6:02
So lots to like here. Definitely wanted to check out. We do need to talk about the price
6:07
But before we get to that, I'm going to invite you to subscribe to my channel
6:11
Just click on that subscribe button and we're connected. Don't forget to hit that bell icon for notifications
6:17
And if this was a value, I definitely appreciate a thumbs up. Cool
6:21
Now, this whole setup, I don't think I can hold all three, I guess I can
6:25
I guess I can. So this is the Joby Wavo Air wireless microphone system
6:31
and it is 21998, currently discounted down to $19999 at Amazon.com. And I will say if you're looking for an extremely flexible wireless microphone system
6:46
this is a solid option for you, whether you're recording or doing vlogging
6:50
or working with your smartphone or you have higher-end gear, it's going to work really well with all of it
6:57
That's all I got. I'll hope to catch you in my next video
