The Google Pixel 6A, let's unbox this thing
0:11
Dave Taylor here, and hopefully in this box, I have the Google Pixel 6A 5G smartphone
0:18
This is the latest smartphone from Google, and it is the more affordable version of this
0:25
This is the Google Pixel 6 Pro, it's really beautiful. It's a big screen. It has a beautiful camera. There's a lot to like about it
0:36
but it does have kind of a spendy price tag. So the idea of the A series, as they call them
0:42
is that they have the majority of the technology, but at a lower price point. So I don't want to talk
0:48
and I know you don't want me to talk, you want me to open the box. So my unboxing tool
0:53
please do not try this at home. And let's see if this is indeed the box from Google
1:00
that contains the phone. So I'm going to go ahead and cut this tape
1:05
And, oh, well, that looks promising. It says meet Pixel 6A. So we're gonna get rid of this box
1:16
And I'm gonna close my knife, just in the interest of not having this be
1:20
perhaps more dramatic than necessary. So this is the Pixel 6A. So let's open it up and see what's inside. And
1:29
a kit as helpful is the Pixel 6A. So it looks like Google sent me not just the phone
1:35
but some more stuff. So let's see what's what. So here's the phone in the box and you can see
1:41
this is so nice. Companies are getting so slim with their packaging. It's kind of hard to believe
1:47
that this is a full smartphone. But we're going to come back to it. Let's see what else is in the
1:51
box. So let's see. No, that doesn't lift up. Maybe that is all that's in the box. Let's see
1:59
Yes. I'm going to just tear this thing apart because, no, it's all glued in there. There's nothing else. So
2:08
apparently they just sent the phone in a really big box, which is cool. Obviously, again, has this cool little, did you teleport into the year? 2048? No, it's just augmented reality, helping you onboard the Pixel 6A
2:24
Okay, that's nice. We're going to put that aside too because this is really what it's all about, right
2:31
This is, like I said, the Google Pixel 6A. So let's open it up
2:36
Now, I don't need the knife because they have thoughtfully added little pull tabs to the ceiling tape
2:43
And now all right there the phone and it pretty nice Just take a close so you can see that a little closer It hard not to notice the appearance similarity right So you can see the 6 Pro and the 6A
3:05
and they have that same bar across the top for the cameras. And this looks like what they call
3:12
the charcoal color. I would call it black, but they call it charcoal. And they call it charcoal. And
3:17
And I thought there might be a sticker on the back, but I don't think there is
3:22
So it's interesting because this particular unit, sure feels like there's a sticker, but I don't think there's a sticker
3:30
This particular unit actually doesn't have a glass back. This one has a glass back
3:36
And this one is a different material. But quite honestly, they look the same
3:40
I don't know that you can tell the difference. Now, the front of this is interesting because this is actually guerrilla glass
3:47
three and I'm going to just power this up. Hopefully it will turn on. It's been a long time since I've had a phone not ship charged, but maybe this is the one. Oh, no, there we go. So it is powering up. It will need me to set it up. I'm not going to do that right now, but suffice to say, it's a nice big screen, but it's not as big as this screen, obviously. That's the real trade-off is that it's just a little smaller all the way around. It's a little less capable
4:17
But it's still a pretty sweet phone. Now, while it's booting up, let's go and see what else is in the box
4:23
So also in the box is information reminding you that this is actually the first A-series phone from Google powered by their tensor chip
4:34
And that's pretty interesting. So it's the same CPU as with the 6 Pro
4:41
So you should get really good performance here. And let's see, the box
4:45
It has some instructions in it. So there's a little bit of paperwork, and there's, of course, the SIM removal tool, which is interesting because I think it also supports ESIMs and dual SIM usage
4:58
Also in the box is a USBC to USBC charging cable and a USBC to USBA rectangle adapter
5:09
What's not in the box? There's no charger. In fact, you're going to have to be used to be
5:15
YOC, bring your own charger. In particular, this doesn't support wireless charging
5:22
So as it is right now, unless you have something with a USBC port on it, you literally can't charge your phone
5:29
which would be a bit of a drag. So what they recommend is that you get a 30 watt charger so that you get the fast charge
5:36
But that up to you You can also just plug it into a computer You can use this adapter although it seems like it adapting in the wrong direction I guess you would use it this way and now you could use a USBA cable if that what you prefer
5:51
But that's the basics here. Let's get the screen back on. Welcome to your pixel
5:58
So let me tell you a little bit about it. It features a 6.1-inch FDA Plus display at 2,400 by 1800
6:07
I'm sorry, 2400 by 1080. and it's Gorilla Glass 3, whereas this one is the Gorilla Glass Invictus
6:14
So this is a tougher screen on this phone, which is a nice thing
6:18
But this one still, Gorilla Glass is going to really help you minimize scratches and cracks and everything
6:24
It's pretty tough stuff from Corning. In terms of its storage capacity, it has 6 gig of RAM, 128 gig of storage
6:32
The front facing cameras are the 12.2 megapixel and 12 megapixel ultra-wide cameras
6:39
And then the front is an 8 megapixel front camera. And like I said, it's powered by the Google Tensor CPU, and they also have the Titan M2 security core
6:50
So supposedly this is really pretty tough and really hard to hack
6:54
We'll see once it gets in the field. The battery is a 4,410 mill-amp hour battery that they say will run from 24 to 72 hours
7:05
If you're an ultra-power saving mode, you can really eke a lot
7:09
of time out of this battery. I'm not sure how fun that will be in that mode, but if you need it
7:15
and you just can't charge it anywhere, then that's good to know. It is IP67 water resistance
7:21
so if this falls in the pool or in other places with water that we won't name, then fish it out
7:28
rinse it off, and you're good to go. No problem. And part of that is because the only port
7:33
here is that USBC charging port. There's no 3.5 millimeter headphone jack
7:39
Now, a lot of people are like, whatever, I like Bluetooth. But personally, I kind of like having the option because I have some really nice
7:46
wired headphones that don't work on Bluetooth, and it just gives you more flexibility
7:51
I know, I might be a dinosaur in that regard, because the vast majority of modern phones
7:56
are skipping the headphone jack. So that's just how it evolves. One of the things that's really cool in this in the whole Pixel 6 lineup is they have
8:05
what they call real tone in the camera system. So among many other features they have in their smart camera software is real tone gives you really good skin tones regardless of the color of your skin
8:18
I think that's actually pretty important and I really applaud Google for putting so much engineering effort into that
8:25
Now, it supports fingerprint unlock and there's no fingerprint spot on the back
8:30
It is built in on the front of the screen just like the 6 Pro And that about all I can tell you Let me give you some dimensions It is 6 inches by 2 inches by 0 inches thick and it 6 ounces It is not
8:47
significantly but a little bit lighter than the 6 Pro. Of course, the big difference is the
8:53
price is different. Like I said, in terms of issues, it doesn't come with a charger
8:58
it doesn't do or support wireless chi charging. And there's no headphone jack other than that I've heard good things about it and I'm really
9:06
eager to actually take this and run some tests and do some demos and I will come
9:11
back with a full review of this phone in just a few days so you'll definitely want to
9:16
stick around for that so that's basically the unboxing so what do you have in the
9:20
phone in the box you have some no surprise the Google Pixel 6a phone you have a
9:25
USBC to USBC charger you have a USBC to USBA adapter you have a USBC to USBA adapter
9:31
and you have some little tiny bits of documentation, but nowadays really all the documentation really needs to do
9:40
is tell you how to get online, and then there's a treasure trove information
9:43
from Google and third parties. So that's everything. It comes in sage and chalk and charcoal
9:51
Sage is a very pale green, and chalk is slightly off white
9:57
and this is charcoal, which many people might describe as black. And it is worth noting that this is a slightly darker tone to the part just above the camera bar
10:09
And I think that's an interesting design note that comes from the 6 Pro
10:13
which obviously has slightly different colors here and here too. So lots to like here, lots to check out
10:20
You've seen everything in the box. I hope that was super interesting. Please hang around, click on that subscribe, and turn on notifications
10:27
and hang around for my review. I'm going to need a couple of days to test it out. and then I'll let you know everything about it
10:33
So this is, let's even show you the box, this is the Google Pixel 6A 5G smartphone
10:42
comes in three different colors, and it will set you back $449 at Amazon.com
10:49
or other places you can buy Google devices. So if you're looking for a mid-range Android phone
10:55
this is probably one of the very best options you have for under $500, but I'm going to test it
11:01
and you can come back and you'll find out more about it. That's all I got
11:04
I hope to catch you in my next video
