It doesn't have to be 110F in the shade for a fan to help cool you down and make your living space more pleasant. But how about a tower fan that can push air at any of 12 different speeds, with smart modes, a timer, and even the ability to adjust the range of oscillation? Dave Taylor reviews the DREO Pilot Max Tower Fan and finds it's a great addition to his home, ready to help him save money while remaining comfortable on those hot, muggy days.

This is one of the best and quiet as tower fans on the market
0:03
Let's check it out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:13
This is the Drio Pilot Max Tower fan, and it's pretty darn nice
0:18
As you can see, it's really tall. This is a floor fan, but it takes up incredibly little space
0:24
In fact, it's 36 inches tall, 12 inches wide. Actually, you can sort of look at the base, and you can see it's a 12-inch circle, and it's about nine pounds, so it is liftable
0:36
You can actually lift it up like that if you're so inclined. But generally speaking, you're going to stick this in a corner of your room, and then everything you're going to do is going to be with this incredibly nice remote control
0:49
I just want to say, this is the nicest remote control I've ever seen for a fan
0:54
It just feels like it should be for some sort of TV or some other console
0:58
sumer electronic device in that category, but it's a van. Now, let me tell you about the fan
1:04
because it is 12 speeds, has a 12-hour timer, and you can adjust the oscillation angle. So you can
1:11
have it be 30, 60, 90, or 120. So there's a lot you can do in terms of how you want it to go
1:19
back and forth, which is great. It also features four different modes. There's normal, standard
1:26
sleep and auto. Now, let me talk about sleep for a second because this thing's super quiet, even on its highest fan setting
1:34
If you used to fans that sound like a jet taking off in your house you going to really like this In fact let go ahead and I think it already on Yep so let turn it up a little bit Let turn it on There we go So you can see it has this really nice display on the front
1:51
So I'm going to turn it up to the maximum 12. And now listen
1:59
So there's a fair amount of air going through here. And I can use this piece of paper so you can see it's moving the air around
2:10
You know, it's actually because it's on auto, I think it's been slowing down
2:14
That's why you're hearing the different sounds. So I'll leave this on. And while I'm doing that, I'll talk
2:20
What you're hearing is you're hearing the smarts of auto mode. What auto mode is doing is it sensing the temperature in the room
2:28
and it's adjusting the fan speed to try to keep a constant speed
2:33
Now, if you don't like that, of course, you can switch to a different mode. Totally simple to do
2:38
Or you can just turn it down a little bit. And I will say when you're in sleep mode, it is down to about 25 decibels, which means that you're going to feel that air moving, which is going to be nice on a hot evening
2:52
But you're not going to hear anything. You know, when you get it on its maximum setting and you put it in normal or standard mode, so it's not using that auto sensing system, then you're going to hear it a little bit
3:03
But honestly, it's really, really innocuous. Now, one of the other cool things is it does have a removable grill because occasionally
3:11
you're going to want to vacuum this because it's going to pick up dust from your environment
3:15
They all do that. That's just the nature of these things. So that's really pretty much everything I wanted to show you
3:22
Let me give you a close up because on the top there are duplicated functions that mimic exactly the buttons on the remote control So it is really easy to work with If you lose the remote control not a big deal
3:36
The only thing I wish that it had somewhere to put the remote control
3:40
like a little pocket or something, but I suppose your remote control is going to be elsewhere in the room
3:45
maybe on your coffee table, with this next to your television or something
3:49
That would be pretty typical. Now, from a power perspective, let me unplug it
3:55
And I'll show you that it uses a hard cable to its own adapter
4:03
And it's a pretty hefty adapter. And this is the cable. So it's about six feet long
4:08
And you'll want an extension cord if you want it to be further away from your wall outlet
4:13
This doesn't swivel or anything, unfortunately. But I do happen to have an extension cord
4:18
So it's easy to plug in. And then there's a plug on the side somewhere here
4:24
I think that's it. Yep. And that's it. Easy enough. So you can move it around, put it in different rooms, depending on what you need. Really straightforward
4:33
Again, let me give you the dimensions, 36 inches tall, 12 inches around, nine pounds, easy to work with. I really like it
4:42
And I have a lot of these fans in my house just tucked into corners because I find that, especially when it gets really hot out, that rather than using the air conditioner, which is expensive
4:54
having a couple of these sort of tower fans can really make a huge difference in the apparent temperature of the room
5:02
Now, I know someone's going to hasten and say, hey, this isn't an air conditioner
5:06
It's not going to cool your room off. And you're right. It not changing the temperature but from the sort of kinesthetic experience of a human being having air moving across you while it hot makes you able to cool off better so you feel cooler in a hot environment
5:23
You can easily verify this by going into a really hot room with no fans and no air motion at all
5:31
And then turn on a fan and you'll be like, oh, that feels so nice. I feel so much cooler even though it's not changing the temperature
5:37
It's just giving you a better ability to, I guess, evaporate sweat from your skin or something
5:42
Whatever it is, these things are fantastic for hot weather, big fan of it
5:47
There's no heater, there's no air filter. It's just a fan. It's just a really smart fan
5:52
And that's really something worth getting on hot days. So we do need to talk about the price, but before we get to the price, I'm going to ask if you could subscribe to my channel
6:01
A click or a tap on that red subscribe button, boom, we're connected
6:05
How easy is that, right? Okay, this is the DRIO Pilot Max tower fan and it's 1299 at Drio.com
6:15
And I would say you definitely want to get one or two of these before the hot summer hits
6:20
And if it's already the hot weather of the summer, then this will make a difference without upping your energy bill
6:26
Definitely something to check out. That's all I got. I'm going to get this thing back on and get the fan back up, which means I'll have to catch you
6:37
in my next video
