Is this robot ready to take over all your vacuuming? Let's find out
0:04
Dave Taylor here with my latest robot. This is the Dinky DK600 robot vacuum
0:19
And let's just jump right into a quick action shot. We survived that. So let me tell you a little bit about it
0:29
So it has 1500 pascals of suction. So on max suction, it actually does a pretty darn good job
0:35
The dustbin's fairly small. Let me pop it out here. And you can see that it's basically just this compartment
0:44
So this is 6 tenths of a liter. Now, how's it been working
0:49
Well, I guess the only way to find out is to pop it open and look
0:53
So you can see a pretty decent chunk of yucky stuff off my carpet and my hardwood floors
1:01
And then on this side, there's a filter. And the filter's also picking up and filtering out really small particles of dust
1:09
So all of this, really, I should empty before I put it back
1:13
But we're just going to keep rolling, right? So I'm going to put it back. You can see it's super easy to take it out and put it back in
1:20
Easy enough. And what I would definitely recommend is, like, every single time, clean it right before you're going to use it or when it's done, whatever
1:29
Now, speaking of when it's done, this thing can run for 100 minutes for over, you know, an hour and a half
1:37
Ooh, that was a tough amount of time to figure out there. For over an hour and a half with its 2600 milliamp hour battery
1:44
And here's the thing is it's still really small and light. So it weighs 8.8 pounds
1:49
Obviously comes with its charging base. And the charging base also comes with a remote
1:55
And now it's trying to figure out how to get onto the charging base. So we'll let it just sort of whack out and do its thing for a little bit
2:01
See if we can figure it out. The only reason I'm holding the base down is because it's not really fair to have it struggle without that. Uh-oh
2:10
Let's put it here and see if that will help it a little bit. So, come on, you can do it
2:14
So, in fact, there, see, it figured out how to dock. And that's an important feature because what you really want is you want one of these vacuums that can go around and wander and clean all of your floor
2:26
And then when it's done, it can actually come right back to its dock and charge
2:30
Now, this is smart enough. It uses infrared to figure out patterns and stuff
2:36
And supposedly, I haven't actually, I guess I have seen this, is it will run
2:40
And if you have a really big space, then it will actually clean
2:44
If it's running low on battery, it will go back to the dock. And then when it's charged up, it will go back out and finish the job
2:49
So, having said that, I've watched this pretty closely. And I would say that its coverage is okay
2:56
Takes a lot of back and forth because it's not a nice, clean, back and forth and back and forth sort of pattern
3:03
It seems to be a lot more random. But it still eventually gets to most all of your surface
3:09
And I figure if a robot vacuum can do 90, say 95% of my vacuuming, I am super happy with that
3:16
And I'll do that extra little bit as needed, right? So, one of the big issues with robot vacuums is can it handle stairs and cliffs
3:24
So, I thought, wouldn't it be fun to actually just let it run here on my table
3:28
So, I cleared all the other stuff away. And here's a quick clip of it just running on my table
3:34
Now, I've spread it up a little bit because it's kind of boring to just watch this thing go back and forth
3:39
But you can see, it is so good at detecting those edges
3:43
It's almost as if I have a bumper around the edge of the table. So, if it can handle working on my table, it can definitely handle working right up to the edge of your stairs
3:51
So, well done on that. Now, one of the really big things to know about this is that it doesn't have an app
3:59
There's no smart home stuff. You don't get to actually interface with Google Assistant or with Amazon Echo or anything like that
4:06
It has a remote. Here's a close-up. The remote has a lot of buttons
4:10
And, in fact, here's a quick chart that shows you what all the different buttons do
4:14
But, basically, it gives you access to a timer mode and a total of six cleaning modes
4:19
including the ability, once it started cleaning, to put it in max
4:23
Now, as with all of these, occasionally it gets stuck, too. And that's a drag
4:28
And sometimes you have to hunt down to find it. So, what I found is if I come home and it's not on its charging dock and I can't hear it working
4:37
then I go, hmm, and I pull out the remote and I just turn it on again
4:41
and it'll either immediately go into beeping mode if it's stuck, like, under something or on something
4:47
or it will actually just get back to work. So, that's easy. And, as you can see, the remote is designed to sit in the charging base
4:54
And the charging base you generally want to have against a wall. And if you have it on carpet, I've found that that's enough, that it won't move, and that it works just fine
5:03
I haven't experimented with having the charging base on a hardwood or tile floor
5:07
but I imagine you might need a little bit of some sort of friction or something
5:11
so that it doesn't move when it's trying to dock. Now, one of the other cool things about this is just how small it is
5:18
So, it, the company, oh, stop that. Okay. It's a little bit too smart
5:26
Company says it's actually, what's the number, 2.8 inches high. And you can see here that it is indeed less than 3 inches high
5:34
Now, that's important, too, because then it can get underneath things. And that's one of the things I love about these robot vacuums is, for example
5:43
it can go under our beds and get all those scary dust bunnies that otherwise would just be sitting there
5:49
until once in a blue moon you move your furniture out and clean underneath
5:53
These sort of things just zoom under there and clean everything up and then come back out and it's not a problem
5:58
Now, about the smarts, let's watch this navigate around some of my chairs
6:04
Now, notice that it tends to want to stay to its right
6:09
That's just the software, how they've programmed this. But it does a really good job of going as close as it can
6:15
as it goes around all those chair legs and table legs and everything
6:19
So, pretty cool. One more thing to know is that it doesn't have a very wide cleaning path
6:27
So, you see all this, and it does have these brushes. And, in fact, it comes with extra brushes, which is good because these can get damaged
6:35
And while I'm at it, I will also tell you it comes with an extra little air filter
6:39
which is good for those really small particulate matter, and a cleaning brush that includes a cutter
6:45
Why would you need a cutter? Because if we flip this upside down and decide we're going to play Operation
6:50
then it turns out, I'm going to pop this little piece off and pull out the roller
6:55
Let's see, that should come out. Is there a trick to it
7:00
There we go. So, if you pull out the roller, this is the width of its vacuum
7:05
So, you can imagine if you had a regular push vacuum that was only this wide
7:09
it would take you forever. So, thank goodness these things just go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth
7:14
and they're patient, right? Vacuuming for an hour with something this wide, tedious
7:19
Letting the robot do all the work, fantastic. But, as you can already start to see here with this dust
7:26
is it picks up hairs and stuff, and they tend to get wrapped around
7:30
That's sort of true of every vacuum, but that's where this cutter edge comes in handy
7:35
because then you can just run it along, and it'll not only clean and pull out that dirt or dust or hair
7:41
but it also helps you avoid having it get too tangled. And, unfortunately, with these, at least in my house
7:48
with three cats and three kids and a lot of chaos and a lot of dirt
7:52
I do end up having to clean this fairly frequently. So, it's easy enough to clean it, and then you just put it back in
8:01
and then you just put the flap back in. Let's see if I did it right, and we're good to go
8:07
These, as you can see, they just basically spin inward, and the idea is that it sort of helps bring the dirt into the center
8:15
which then can be pulled up by this. So, let me give you maybe a better view
8:20
So, here's the roller. Here are the little spinny doohickeys. The wheels go up and down, so it can handle going from carpet to a hardwood floor, for example
8:31
If there's a rise in elevation, it can handle that. It does pretty darn well
8:35
Then there's various sensors. So, there's sensors here and here. These two magnet plates are to do with the charging base
8:44
I mean, there's another sensor here, I believe. You know, it's pretty darn sophisticated
8:49
and one of the things I like about this guy is that it's also at an entry-level price
8:54
But, like I said, what you get at that entry level is you get a remote control
8:59
You don't get an app. You don't get 3D mapping. You don't get, like, the VR. You don't have a built-in camera
9:05
I know some of those things aren't on any vacuums yet, but if they had a built-in camera, would you watch your vacuum cleaning your floor
9:12
No, I wouldn't either. Anyway, that's it. So, I think this is pretty sweet
9:18
It's a little smaller than a lot of the other vacuums out there, and its storage capacity for dirt is a little small at 0.6 liters
9:26
But, for a condo or an apartment or something, having this thing just timed to run at 2 a.m. every night
9:33
and just magically cleans and keeps your house clean and dust-free, fantastic. Totally worth it
9:39
And the price is at a point where you really can just buy it and see what it's like
9:43
So, I think that's very cool. And, by the way, we've looked at the height
9:47
Let's look at the width. So, the entire diameter across is basically the size of a frisbee
9:52
It's 12 1⁄2 inches across. So, that's pretty small. It's pretty nice and easy to work with
9:59
So, I am a fan. Now, before I tell you the price
10:03
let me ask if you can subscribe to my channel. Really appreciate that. Cool
10:07
Now, let's talk price. This is the Dinky DK600 Robot Vacuum. And it will cost you $219.95 on Amazon.com
10:18
And you can check out the reviews there, too. People love this thing. It works really well
10:23
It's at a really good price point. It's way less expensive than something like a Roomba
10:27
And it cleans your darn apartment or house or condo. Or I guess you could do it if you have a really, really big RV
10:34
Fantastic. Definitely worth checking out. So, that's all I got. And I will hope to catch you in my next video
