Top 10 States Young People Are Moving to. Over the last decade, there has been a shift that really picked up steam in the last 3 years. States that have always attracted young people have fallen by the wayside. As an example, since the 1970s California and Florida were always on this type of list. Something changed about 3 years ago according to the US Census. In 2017 young adults like Millennials and Gen-Z started leaving their states for other less expensive states, and some surprising states have moved up into the top 10 thanks to the growing portion of the US population that can work remotely. There are other factors but price and remote workers seem to be the main drivers on this stat. Millennials and Gen-Z are very different from Gen-X and Baby Boomers.
