Hi, I'm Jocelyn and this is Sandra and today is Friday so we are making cocktails as usual
0:06
and we are going to make a hot toddy being as it's getting a little bit cooler and things
0:13
This is Sandra's Virginia hot toddy is what we call it, right
0:18
That's right. I invented this myself. When you lived in Virginia. When I lived in Virginia and what is a toddy you might ask
0:26
Well, a hot, a toddy is really any, um, hot beverage that contains alcohol
0:33
Obviously there's often spices, sometimes lemon. So we're going to do a little of both
0:37
And this is really a nice drink. And I warn you, this is not for the faint of heart
0:43
It's a very strong drink. Don't let the name toddy fool you
0:47
It's a big girl's drink. This is, this is not hotty toddy. This is, this is hot toddy, right
0:53
Right. Emphasis. On the hot toddy. So what I have here is a half a cup of apple branny
1:00
I like, actually, I like apple jack. Laird's makes really good apple jack
1:05
They've been making it, I think, for 200 years. Yeah, forever, right
1:09
Right. And then I'm going to take another half cup of... So this is just green tea that we've brewed
1:16
It's got, what, like, about... It's probably a cup, two cups with a couple of tea bags. Yeah
1:23
You don't need this to be overly strong. No, I'm going to take that
1:26
But you do want it to be hot. Yeah, we just pulled that right off the stove, so it is nice and hot
1:36
This is such a great thing for the fall. Like, you could make a big old batch of this and have some friends over and sit on the porch
1:44
We're always sitting on the porch with our cocktails. Have you noticed that? That how we do That how we do But this is one where you wrap up in blankets and drink a hotty toddy on your porch It really nice We in front of the fireplace So I have a tablespoon of simple syrup A simple syrup And I going to put a little scant because I don need it too sweet Not quite that much You know really to your taste I going to write it as a
2:08
tablespoon. We see it on the internet later. And then a few drops. Just a little lemon
2:19
And then we're going to finish it. And we're taking a little whole nutmeg. I love nutmeg. I love fresh nutmeg so much
2:25
And the smell of this nutmeg, the aroma that this is going to give it in addition to the taste
2:30
Yeah, it's like an autumn experience, but it really gives you a nice nose full of nutmeg scent
2:36
and it's really nice and fall. You'll see that I have this in a Virginia cup. That's what this
2:43
style of pure cup is called. You can put it in a mug at home. You probably don't have one of these
2:48
but I thought it would be a fun vessel to show. I developed this recipe from some of old recipes
2:58
in Virginia, Williamsburg. Williamsburg. Yeah, and so you know they were big on hot drinks and big
3:04
punch balls and that sort of thing. So this is adaptive for some of those. I guess just
3:08
taste that. That's really cool. Thank you. It really does just, it smells like autumn
3:18
I love this. I absolutely love this. It is, it's warm and comforting and I feel like if I had a
3:24
cold, I would be better. It's medicinal. It is, it's, it's an adult drink. You've got to put your
3:30
big girl panties on for this one. Um, but it is an excellent drink and I think while it's chilly
3:35
y'all should try making one of these. Um, and we will see you next Friday for another cocktail
