Hey, I'm Jocelyn with my friend Sandra, and today for our Cocktail Friday, we are going to make classic margarita
0:08
Funny enough, as much as we all drink margaritas and love margaritas, they're not always really good
0:15
Like, I've had some really pitiful margaritas in my life. So we have kind of come up with our thing and the way we both like margaritas best
0:25
So I'm going to go ahead. I'm going to rim the glass really quick while you sort of start talking about the amounts
0:31
How about that? Good? Well, before I talk about amounts, let's just talk about the fact that, yes, we know you can go buy margarita mix
0:39
It does not even come close to making a fresh handmade margarita
0:44
And it's not any part of it, really. The only difference is that instead of tipping the bottle of the stuff you buy in the store, you do need to squeeze some limes
0:52
I know this is in a bottle, but I promise it's fresh squeezed very recently
0:57
So. And a skosh of simple syrup. Right. And you control the sugar instead of them controlling how much high fructose course you're going to consume
1:05
You know, and the other thing is fresh lime juice versus that sweet and sour mix that you get
1:11
That sweet and sour mix to me has this aftertaste that stays on the back of my tongue
1:15
And maybe that's why I don't like a lot of people's margaritas. But this is all natural Right Absolutely And once I promise once you start doing drinking this way you will never go back to the old way I completely agree and it really easy
1:30
And so, Joss, I'll tell them about why you have rimmed this glass and with what
1:34
Okay, so to rim this, you need to dunk it just lightly in something sticky
1:40
I just use lime juice because anything that's got a little bit of sugar is good
1:44
water. The salt will stick to it for a little bit, but it doesn't stay on very long
1:49
So I use a little lime juice into the salt and, um, I can't drink a margarita without salt
1:55
It really does add flavor and complexity to the drink. So if you don't like it
2:01
it's okay. You can skip it. Yeah. If you have high blood pressure, please don't salt your glass. Otherwise go ahead. And it's fun. And it's fun when everybody has
2:09
little salt chips on their lips in the middle of the party. It makes great photographs. Right
2:13
So we're just going to start here. This is a stir drink, not a chicken drink
2:18
And it's some delicious tequila. I guess, yeah. So this is a really nice gold tequila, but you can use silver
2:31
Right. Silver is a little smoother, but when you're buying Herodora, I don't know that it matters
2:36
This is my absolute favorite tequila in the world. Um it not particularly cheap but I will drink tequila on its own I actually like tequila as a sipping kind of drink I don do shots of it but I think as a sipping drink it really great And this is my choice Right
2:54
Yeah. If you're drinking straight, absolutely. It makes a difference. But it's your, there's so
2:59
many really good tequilas out there. Yeah. Experiment, find what you like. Right. So we're
3:03
doing one and a half of the tequila and one of lime. A fresh lime. Right. One ounce of lime juice
3:09
and just a skosh. Quarter. She has like measurements. What the heck is that
3:17
Skosh is so much better, right? For you, the home viewer. I'm doing it for you
3:23
That's it. You could also put it in about a tablespoon. Yeah
3:28
And then last but not least, not necessarily last, you could put it in with a washer
3:33
I will also have a video on how to make simple syrup
3:36
It's really simple. That's why it's called simple syrup. And then we're going to do one half an ounce of Cointreau
3:44
So Cointreau is just an orange river liqueur. Right. And there are so many out there
3:50
Cointreau is kind of the one that everybody knows, I feel like. What I would suggest not doing is using a bitter orange like Aperol or something like that
4:00
That would not be awesome. I mean, if you're into bitter orange with the tequila, maybe
4:06
I think it be kind of funky I think it be kind of funky Yeah So we just going to stir this right up Add in one of my favorite fruits We just going to get a little squeeze because remember we got lime already on the rim
4:20
and lime in the drink, but you want that fresh... Put the lime in the coconut
4:25
And drink it all down. Drink it all down and uh-uh. Now I'll lick the salt first
4:29
this is the perfect margarita i mean it's so good right i could drink gallons of these
4:40
i should not drink gallons of these um but it is so good and a note on the salt um i'm using
4:48
some funky salt that i have you need big chunky salt if you only have table salt you can do it
4:55
But the big chunky salt makes a difference, I think. And they sell in stores salt, rim salt
5:03
You can get it. There's nothing wrong with it. You can also just use kosher salt right off the store shelves
5:07
Pink Himalayan looks really pretty with the green in the glass. So, yeah, you can do whatever you want
5:14
I want to taste it. Taste it. She didn't lick the glass
5:18
Here you go. Not bad if I do taste it myself. I think it's great
5:23
So, um, tequila, go make yourself a really great handmade margarita and, um, we'll see
5:31
you next Friday. Sounds great. Bye
