Hey, I'm Jocelyn and this is Sandra and it is Friday Cocktails and so we are making some drinks
0:05
and this one is completely new to me so why don't you tell everyone and I will just stand here and
0:10
shut up. Okay, this is called the Martinez. It's a gym-based drink, not very common these days but
0:18
a good one anyway. I'm loving the resurgence of all of these old-fashioned cocktails that kind of
0:26
fell out of favor for so many years and now are back
0:30
And it's very exciting to me. I have fallen in love with so many of these old drinks too
0:36
And usually I find them in old books that I'm reading. I love to read old books
0:40
Sandra and I are sort of bibliophiles. We're big fans of reading
0:46
And that's where I found a lot of these cocktails. They piqued my interest
0:49
And I know you have too, right? You'll definitely come across them in books from the 20s
0:54
so this is red vermouth you cannot substitute white vermouth you definitely want it not putting
1:01
it has to be sweet right this is sweet uh white vermouth is dry and putting in equal parts gin
1:08
and red vermouth which is a little unusual but that's a lot but you know back in the day vermouth
1:14
was actually a base where and the vermouth or the gin or vodka might have just been the little bit
1:20
on top. Right. Back in the old the olden times the olden days
1:25
vermouth was commonly drunk on top. Yeah. As a thing by itself. Right. Absolutely
1:32
And we don't really do that much. How much Lutzardo are we putting in? A half an ounce. Okay
1:38
And Lutzardo is sweet. So also sweet. Sweeter in fact than the
1:44
red vermouth. And then we're just going to put in two dashes of theirs
1:50
Two dashes of bitters But this Luxardo is sweet But I think it has this really nutty sort of flavor too So it not like sugary sweet right
2:01
I mean, yes, it's sugary, but it's not. But you won't need another
2:05
It's not overbearing. Right. It's not overbearing, though, which I kind of like because I like a touch of sweet
2:11
You need to have to clean it out. I think in two dashes of bitters, you don't want to use pay-shirms or any other
2:20
a little goes a long way so if it says two dashes two dashes is all you're gonna need
2:29
so i'm gonna just so i'm kind of excited about this new to me oh my god that is a hideous color
2:35
but it just tastes delicious i'm gonna i'm gonna trust you i've got to get my long ago though so
2:42
beautiful um that all those ice crystals you're a good shaker you're welcome very much
2:50
so we're just putting a lime wheel on this yep just a lime wheel
2:55
actually I cut this one a little thick so and Sandra loves to do this to me all the time
3:09
where she puts the damn fruit in the glass instead of on the side of the glass
3:13
she wants to see if I can drink around it if I can oh my gosh good that's really good that is a really different sort of drink that um
3:28
i like it full of surprises that's a new tip drink i like it
3:34
thank you welcome oh my gosh y'all you're gonna have to drink a martinez and um you're going to
3:41
really enjoy this so happy Friday I hope you enjoy our cocktails and cheers
