Hello and welcome to another video. I'm Paul Lucas and today I am in Los Angeles LAX Terminal 2
0:10
heading to JFK with Delta in Delta One. It's their transcontinental business class product
0:16
I can't wait to show you. Come and follow me. Let's go check it out. Today's video is sponsored by Dashlane. Keep your digital life secure and never forget a password
0:26
again. When I was making this video, I was traveling in Canada and the US for two weeks
0:31
taking 19 flights and staying somewhere new almost every night. Dashlane made the process
0:37
of planning this quick and easy, remembering my personal details and creating strong passwords
0:42
for online accounts. Dashlane comes with an awesome autofill feature for when you're booking
0:47
flights. There's also a VPN facility to keep you safe, and you can use it to access content
0:52
anywhere in the world and not be tracked. It also works across multiple devices, Apple, Android
0:58
PC or Mac. Dashlane have teamed up with me to give you two months free of premium

Delta One passengers can use the private check-in area at the back end of Terminal 2
1:14
It's not exactly clear what the point of this very pleasant check-in area is
1:18
Unlike many premium check-in areas, it doesn't actually include a dedicated security lane and you have to go into the same security queue as everybody else
1:26
However, Delta are making major renovations to Terminal 2, so perhaps this is something they have planned for the future
1:32
The Delta Sky Club is located upstairs on what we Brits would call the first floor
1:37
You don't normally get access to this lounge on domestic itineraries with Delta, but these transcontinentals are marketed as Delta 1
1:45
That's the same as their long-haul international business class, so in you go
1:49
This Sky Club is actually a pretty pleasant space. It's much better than the American Airlines or United lounges elsewhere in this airport
1:56
I arrived towards the end of breakfast time and was pleasantly surprised at the choice and quality of what was on offer on the food and drink stations
2:04
No single airline dominates Los Angeles airport's movements, and this is a relatively small hub for Delta
2:10
Therefore, it's pretty good that they put in such a large lounge with decent amenities
2:14
There's a wide array of seating and it wasn't hard for me to find somewhere quiet to enjoy a snack and watch the aircraft outside
2:31
Today flight is to New York JFK although it should be noted this aircraft actually continues to Tel Aviv Israel It operated by a 767 Okay finally boarding New York JFK here we come
2:48
Whenever I'm travelling, I always give live updates on my social media
2:52
You can follow me on Twitter and Instagram. business class is in a staggered one-two-one configuration meaning every seat has direct
3:08
aisle access my seat today was at the bulkhead 1a at my seat were a pair of noise cancelling
3:14
headphones a pillow blanket water menu and the amenity kit Cheers. Exits and bulkhead areas are clear
3:43
As we leave the gate, make sure your seat belt is back. We'll be right back
4:19
Today's route sees us cover 2,463 miles. It'll take 5 hours and 11 minutes at 36,000 feet
4:35
The drinks service happens pretty soon after take-off and gives me a few moments to have
4:39
a look at the seat properly. There's a shoe storage area just in front of the seat, but
4:43
I think if you have particularly big shoes, they might not fit in here. Directly in front
4:47
of you there's also a small entertainment screen as well as a literature pocket containing
4:51
the safety card and in-flight magazines. You can summon the flight attendant through the screen function here, but I should mention
4:58
that this particular IFE screen wasn't working particularly well. When I tried to click on the little right arrow here to scroll through the selection
5:05
it kept thinking I was pressing on the rightmost film. It just wasn't working, it was very frustrating and I couldn't access all of the content
5:12
Another annoyance was the position of the screen itself I not a particularly tall person but the screen is actually way below my eye level This means you have to look down slightly just to see the TV screen While there a function to push the TV screen in so that if you reclined you can see it from a lower angle
5:27
you can't tilt it upwards, so a very tall person is really going to suffer. By your shoulder there's universal and USB power points, as well as a twist-to-light reading lamp
5:38
The table deploys from the console just like this, and folds out to make a full-size table
5:42
As soon as we were at cruising altitude, I checked out the Wi-Fi that Delta offer on board
5:49
While the network did connect, unfortunately, the Wi-Fi just wasn't working at all on the flight
5:55
It didn't matter that the Wi-Fi was so expensive, because even when I tried to pay, the payment didn't go through
6:00
This was a problem with everybody on board. One of the main attractions of business class is the opportunity to get work done, and with no Wi-Fi, it's pretty difficult to do that
6:09
However, worse was to follow. In my inspection of the seat, I noticed that the entire surroundings were absolutely filthy and worn
6:17
I've never seen such ingrained filth like this anywhere on any airline, let alone in the US
6:22
It was an absolute disgrace and completely disgusting. This filth is not the result of one missed turnaround
6:29
No, this is ingrained dirt and speaks volumes about the sort of operation that Delta is running here
6:35
Anyway, here's the drinks list and the menu if you still have a stomach to look at it after looking at all of that ingrained dirt
6:40
it. Delta operate a meal pre-order facility for Delta One. Now, I'd actually ordered the
6:57
meatballs, but was given the salad, first of all, before correcting my order. Eventually
7:01
the meatballs did arrive. However, it turned out that actually these meatballs were somebody else's
7:06
Whoever the passenger in seat 7B was, I'd rather you hadn't swapped with me
7:10
The meal was absolutely disgusting. Delta seems to think that for a main meal, two meatballs, two slices of bread and an enormous lump of ricotta cheese passes muster
7:20
Well, it doesn't. This is especially the case when the tomato sauce it's served in is completely congealed
7:26
The prawn starter fared little better as the prawns were partially frozen inside
7:31
Because the main meal was so disappointing, for dessert I just went for the ice cream
7:34
because it's very difficult to get that wrong. Isn't it? Perhaps this is a lesson in delayed gratification
7:51
Anyway, the Toomey amenity kit is pretty attractive, and is definitely the most packed of all the amenity kits you get amongst the transcontinental competition here in the usa something which is pretty difficult to show you on video is the fact that my seat actually wasn moving whatsoever it supposed to lie flat into a bed which is one of the reasons
8:08
the fare on these transcontinental routes is so high eventually i went to the bathroom and gave
8:13
the attendant five minutes to fix it and she found the problem i just want to give you guys
8:18
a chance to guess in the comment section what the problem was still i was grateful to the flight
8:23
attendant for her being able to actually fix the problem. It wasn't easy. I'll give you a clue there
8:28
Something that really becomes apparent as you lie down is just how narrow this seat is. It's almost
8:32
impossible to sleep anywhere other than completely on your side. If you lie on your back or even in a
8:38
three-quarter position, you're going to find this really uncomfortable. Nonetheless, before landing
8:43
there was a hot cookie served. However, this pretty much disintegrated, although I don't know how much
8:47
of that is down to me. Are you supposed to let these things cool down until they're cold? I have
8:51
no idea we don't really have these back home. Remember that suspicious brown blob at the
8:56
start of the video? Well, I finally found the culprit. It's actually quite benign. It's
9:00
one of these mint chocolate sweets which were handed out before landing. This was almost
9:04
as much of a relief as the end of the flight as we descended into New York a signal that
9:09
my Delta One experience was, thankfully, nearly over. So, okay, time for a bit of balance
9:25
This is almost certainly an exceptionally bad experience with Delta. I personally know several people who have high status with Delta
9:32
who fly with them all the time, and they were all shocked at the worthless experience
9:36
that I had on this transcontinental flight. Los Angeles to New York is the most competitive air route in the entire USA, and probably in the whole American continent
9:46
The only bonus for me was the fact that I was able to pick this ticket up for the very cheapest that Delta will offer it at, about $560 one way, around £442 sterling
9:57
The comments section is open and I'm a fair guy, so please let me know what your personal experiences with Delta have been, whether they're good or bad, I'm really keen to hear them
