The New “AIR” Gaming Smartphone

So we got the latest from Red Magic

It is the 11 Air. These things represent value for money. You're actually getting some nice specs for that

on top of the fact that you're getting gaming specific features like those shoulder buttons

which really change the way that you play games. Like it actually makes you more effective

This one is stated Phantom. I presume that's black. And then I've also got Prism, which I presume is white

Let's open this one first. I've looked at so many Red Magic phones over the years

You get a few things in the box pretty much guaranteed, including a case to get you started

with some degree of protection. It's basic, but it's like basic plus

because it's not just a soft case. Like this one actually is a little more rigid

and it has some texture to it. You've also got a SIM tool. That's about it for that

Here is the black device. Okay, satisfying. Just like previous Red Magic phones, it has that transparent back panel, so you know right away that it's something special

It's not boring, it's distinctive, and different. It's definitely not just another iPhone

Now you've also got the cooling system built in, which of course is going to aid in your gameplay so you don't overheat

This can be even more important depending on the climate that you find yourself. This is a smooth glass back with some curvature around the edges, and then the sides are flat

USB-C on the bottom, power volume. Here you can see the exhaust for the fan

And now you can also spot those shoulder buttons, which are touch-based

and they have a fast or high refresh rate for touch sampling. Instantaneous reactions to your inputs

You will map those to your favorite games, and all of a sudden you free up your thumbs

for aiming as you're firing if you're playing any kind of shooter game

But I mean, they're mappable for any style of game that you're into. You've also got this dedicated switch

on the left-hand side. By default, this is mapped to launch your game mode on the device

However, you can do a number of things. It's a custom button. If you want to launch into something else, you can do that as well

And then also in the package, you're going to get a fairly substantial power brick

The device supports up to 80 watts for fast charging, and you do get a red cable

Obviously, you would get a red and black cable with a gaming phone. Okay so that the black one Let compare it now to the prism which is the white one You guys can tell me which one you prefer I presume the case will be identical which it is And here is the white phone

Now, Mo said he prefers this one. He thinks it looks even more special. I might agree with him

Ooh, I might have to agree with him on that. I like the transparent aspect of both

It just gives you a little bit more detail in a somewhat bland marketplace for smartphones

But I don't know. This one actually kind of does the same thing because you can see the pass through of those elements below the glass

So you let me know what you would pick the white one or the black one. Okay, so check this out

Look, we got a little widget for our game fan. Let's put it on super chilly. Did you hear that

Wow Super chilly I don't know if you're gonna pick it up with all of our lighting in here

But you can see there's some RGB happening and you can hear the fan when it's on its max cooling mode

But if you're down here and you have the sound turned on on your game, it's pretty subtle

But if you're looking for it, like I'll give it, it's working. You don't have to question that

I'll put it right in a microphone for you. And then there's also an eco mode. So it's going to spin at a lower RPM

And then obviously we can turn it off completely. Now that's accessible via this widget and your games are accessible like any typical smartphone

But it's a lot more fun to launch into the game mode by holding the special key

Look at that. Whoa. And I feel some haptics as well. There's some vibration there

So this is your hub for all of your gaming. Your titles are gonna be in here. Your settings are gonna be in here

The sound is, wow. We've got some sound as well. Stereo, solid stereo sound

The other thing I like about this is the screen to body ratio and the lack of prioritization for front facing camera

which again, it's more about the immersiveness of the display over some traditional smartphone features

It obviously has a camera built in, but it's simply not the highest priority

because it is a gaming phone. But I will just snap a couple photos just because it does still have a camera

You don't need to be too worried. And it's actually not even that bad. That's 24 and that's 14, which maybe doesn't look quite as nice as the 24

You can take a photo if you need to take a photo. And the main camera is not that bad, but it's just not the priority

Let's see. We can take a video at 4K 60. Why don't we just take a quick sample because Mo's already here and he's going to do his usual thing

because I did say that this is a pretty good value around 500 bucks

What you're gonna get is a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. You're gonna get 256 or 512 gigs for storage

You're gonna get that advanced cooling system up to 24,000 RPM on that fan

But you've also got a large vapor chamber in there before the fan even kicks off

Big battery in here, which does charge up to 80 watts. It's a 7,000 milliamp hour battery

Battery life, obviously so important on a gaming phone because gaming is one of those things

that drains your battery faster than a lot of other things you do on your smartphone. The display is 1.5K resolution

with a 144 Hertz refresh rate. The size of the display is coming in at 6.85 inches of OLED

and a 95.1% screen to body ratio. So the other cool thing is you don't wanna leave your game

to adjust some commonly used settings. So you actually just swipe in from the side

and you get access to anything that you would wanna change on the fly

including your performance mode. So it's in balance right now. I can also set it to an eco mode or a rise mode

in order to maximize performance. I can also go in here and play with my notification settings

so I don't get distracted by any type of message while I'm in my game if that's what I want

I can control, obviously, my fan in here. I can see info on game performance

I can do screen recording if I want to record my gameplay. Adjustments to my RGB settings

And also I can remap my triggers. And I can have single tap, long press, rapid fire settings

It's endless what you can do here in order to customize your experience

And all of that is accessible just by pulling in from the side. Target inside

Enemy down! Enemy down, lead! I should play at range because I have better aim Oh I do

There we go. There we go. Ah, we lost the lead! oh we won okay there we go yeah it was pretty key with the the missile you know i mean

kind of a key oh yeah there it is it was that moment right there mvp moment right there

kind of gave us what we needed there kind of an mvp kind of an mvp moment kind of it

this is the biggest key is just these capacitive touch buttons in a different spot that is a

controller that's always in your pocket and that is the biggest difference the other thing i can

say the device is like you can tell it's warming up a little bit but not even enough to initiate

the fan it's got that large vapor chamber in there it's really purpose built so if you're a person

that runs your battery down, these are all the considerations that are top priority for Red Magic

when it comes to developing a gaming phone. You have your gaming-specific hardware

you're doing your gaming, and you have your options for colors, and you have a price point

that's a little more approachable, around 500 bucks to start. That's it
