jeez christ i'm oh i'm nervous boys watts to freedom armed how about a thousand horsepower
0:08
you want a thousand horsepower i don't know what do you think you want thousand horsepower you want a thousand horsepower in a vehicle like this you have g-force on the left hand side torque across
0:17
the top and now it's telling me how hard to brake before i launch it i gotta get to there when you
0:23
start driving it, the magic that occurs seems like it's from another planet. Where are you? Are you on
0:30
the moon? What is this Star Wars scenario? You feel like a superhero or something. It doesn't seem
0:38
right when you get into it. A vehicle this big should not move the way this vehicle moves
0:44
but yet it moves the way it moves. Any last words, boys
0:49
oh my god i'm nervous oh my god
1:01
this is different guys i've had cars come through here i already have made up my mind
1:19
EVs that's the area where excitement is happening in the tech space this is kind of at the top of
1:25
that list so far this is the Hummer EV and this has been an absolute boatload of fun I've been
1:33
driving this around for a couple of days I wanted to get to know it a little bit and I do not want
1:39
to give it back I am loving this vehicle I was skeptical I was like it's too big I can't where
1:46
do I put it? What do I do? Look how wide it is. It drives smaller than some of my smaller trucks
1:53
These rear tires actually turn quite a bit, so you feel more nimble. You are smooth and floating on a
2:00
cloud, courtesy of the air suspension, which we happen to have jacked up right now in its highest
2:08
setting in terrain mode. Check out the ground clearance. It is like a warthog from Halo
2:15
And I think that this vehicle is significant and important in the EV space because Hummer used to be that badge associated with something not very electric
2:29
Dinosaur juice. Excuse me, sir. Is that a Hummer you're driving? Where's the gasoline
2:35
And you say, no, no, this is the electric one. And then everybody who hadn't been paying attention to what was going on with EVs starts paying attention because of this imposing character behind me
2:47
So why is this thing so much fun? Oh, I don't know. Well, you could start with the 37-inch tires that'll take you anywhere, or the air suspension that I talked about prior
2:56
or the fact that this looks like a Stormtrooper's vehicle, or the fact that the roof comes off, or the fact that it's still a truck
3:03
Everybody has nostalgia around the Hummer brand. And of course, it goes all the way back to military vehicles
3:09
But then this elevates it to futuristic status, especially when you recognize it's an EV and it's a performance EV
3:18
This model doing 0 to 60 in three seconds. It's 10,000 pounds doing 0 to 60 in three seconds
3:26
I don't even miss the other performance electric cars I have. Plus, I can carry stuff
3:31
And I mean lots of stuff. Never mind the fact that there's a truck bed in the back
3:35
Let's talk about the trunk in the front. And I have a motorized frunk
3:42
And yes, you may have been wondering about power. There is 12 volt in here. You're going to be able to power up your tools, fridge, whatever you can fit in here
3:50
Oh, and there's also tie downs. So whatever you do put in here doesn't move around
3:53
And it has a giant gasket around the outside. So it seals up
3:57
You do put this down by hand. So you just kind of grab it. Listen
4:02
that last little part there, squeeze it down, keep the moisture, keep the dust out. Good lord
4:10
everybody who approaches this vehicle is enamored by the substantial nature of these hooks that are
4:16
on the front and the back. We do have a nice little GMC badge in there. Of course, there's
4:21
sensors on the front as well. When you add together the sensors as well as the camera system
4:26
even though you have an enormous vehicle, you can find places to put it and you don't panic too much
4:31
On the front here, these lights do all kinds of funky and cool things
4:35
My favorite, however, is when the truck is charging. This actually acts as a progress meter
4:42
So you'll be able to see how much charge you have in relationship to full based on how far along the blue lights inside the headlights have made it
4:51
You'll see an enormous skid plate on the front. Immense approach angle for off-roading
4:56
That skid plate goes all the way from front to back, protecting your battery that's in there
5:01
and allowing you to approach some of these dangerous, exciting terrains. This air suspension, you can put your manual presets in depending on the circumstance
5:12
You can also put it in normal mode and let it adjust as it pleases. I'm going over train tracks and just driving around potholes and just regular life
5:20
And the thing is smooth sailing. The test we'd love to do is take it off road
5:24
In the future, GM's going to send me a more extended loan
5:30
right GM so then I can do all kinds of crazy and fun stuff with it as well look at this front grill
5:36
now when it's lit up I mean it's a different level to it they have it going all the way across not
5:41
just in the headlight regions triple wipers because it's so massive and because it's got that
5:48
boxy look you actually end up with triple wipers it's kind of funny kind of cool Hummer EV logo so
5:55
if they don't believe you that Hummers have gone electric, you can just slap that badge right there
6:00
and show them. We have traditional beefy door handles. And when you open them up
6:05
couple of places to grab to get yourself in there, military style, frameless glass
6:12
and you hang your arm over top. Typically a luxury feature, but it gives a real convertible
6:18
feel when you have your panels removed. Check out this little Easter egg. This is, of course
6:25
where the Hummer is built in the United States. I like the way they integrated the flag here
6:30
as a design element, and it just sort of fits in this section perfectly
6:35
It's not overwhelming, it's subtle, but you know it's there. We walk around to the back, we find the charge port
6:41
It's in a traditional kind of gas location. This is like the simplest charging setup
6:47
I've seen on an EV that I've had in studio. Flip this open and plug it in
6:52
as if you were filling up with gas. Hummer EV on the back another mini GMC And we have of course camera systems and we have the multifunction tailgate as well Dual button brake light here
7:05
couple of small grip points. We can hit this and this, and actually trigger the both of them
7:12
This is gonna be your step, press down. We're also going to have a stereo option on this unit
7:18
Doing your tailgating and such. That's a copyright song, probably copywritten. I like the way it turns on right away
7:24
Gets the party going in a seamless fashion. Thank goodness for Bluetooth. They're also giving you power here and lighting
7:30
USB and aux input if you want to use it. This is a step. This is especially helpful when you have this thing elevated
7:37
Since it's multifunction, it does some different things for you. So if I go back to regular tailgate scenario and then lift this up
7:45
well, now I can have some items that are stored inside kept from sliding out
7:50
And the same thing goes if you're at the very top. You can lower this portion of the tailgate
7:56
Have a little work surface. Or if you have something that's on an angle but it needs a little bit more space to extend
8:02
Then you can have the stop in this location over here. So multifunction tailgate
8:07
Just added functionality there for you. Thank you to Vessi for sponsoring this episode
8:13
If you haven't heard of Vessi yet, these are waterproof shoes. I'm talking legit waterproof
8:18
These will keep your socks absolutely dry while still looking stylish. I've got a couple of pairs here
8:25
This one is called Weekend. These are the ones that I've been wearing around
8:28
You could dress it up if you had to, or you could just kick around on the weekend
8:32
On the inside, cloud comfort all day. Dymatex technology. Dymatex is a dual climate knit material that keeps you cool in the summer and warm in colder weather
8:44
It doesn't feel like it should be waterproof. But guess what? It is
8:49
Weekend Chelsea sneaker comes up a little higher on the ankle. You can slip the entire thing on
8:54
It has a nice fabric-like texture on the outside. The other crazy thing about these sneakers is just how lightweight they are
9:02
You're hardly going to notice this on your foot. Oh, by the way, look at this cute little thing
9:07
You know how it goes with kids. They're jumping in puddles as they should be. This is the type of sneaker where you encourage the jumping in the puddle
9:13
Listen, dad invested in the high-tech Vessi sneaker. I want to see you jump in those puddles
9:18
We have one more style to check out. What if your comfortable slipper also happened to have waterproof capabilities
9:25
This one can fold down in the back for that slip-on functionality
9:30
So shout out to Vessi for supporting this show. If you like this show, go support Vessi
9:34
Show them some love. Check the description for all the relevant details so you can pick up a pair and try them for yourself
9:39
So now we're going to do the next most exciting thing. We're going to turn this beast into a convertible
9:44
by removing those roof panels. There's two latches on the inside of the car
9:49
You're then gonna simply lift up, grab it. It's lightweight. And remember, these store in the front of
9:56
well, they store in the frunk and they stack nicely into their cases. One, two
10:02
this is a very unique experience in the truck space if you want an even more convertible like
10:18
feel you can actually remove these center portions as well i need to tell you something really quick
10:24
will typically you know he's in he's behind the scenes getting work done but today he took it to
10:30
another level because of how excited he is about this vehicle. Like it turned a grown man into a
10:36
little kid. This to him is a gigantic Hot Wheels and he wants to drive it. He's sneaky. He's near
10:42
me. Sneaky. And he wants to wrap his hands around this steering wheel. This is what Will needs to
10:49
complete himself. You understand? This completes the vision. This is rugged. It feels like a thing
10:54
that can get wet. Like you're not really going to mess it up. This completes the picture, the
10:59
evolution of Will. What is that show? Pin My Ride. No, no, no
11:05
It's the guy. It's a cartoon. And the guy's got the crazy hair
11:11
Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z. It's Dragon Ball Z. That's what Will needs to go, Super Saiyan
11:19
I don't know anything about Dragon Ball Z, but I know that
11:22
the two of you love that thing. Hey, hey, hey, wait a second
11:26
Wait a second. So actually the reason that he came over here was he wanted to tell me that there's 18 cameras on the outside of this
11:33
vehicle 18 is that what he said and i said to him i never saw you like this before and that's the
11:38
level of excitement you can get out of a guy like will if you roll up in a in a hummer ev you
11:44
understand see he's having trouble even fully walking away like he took a few steps because
11:48
he's like he's talking to me too see he can't go too far see that right there speaking of those 18
11:53
cameras let's just look at them right now because they're actually pretty amazing 360 around the
11:57
vehicle backup as well but there's so many different views i mean you could tap the front
12:02
end back end uh for backing up we can see out the side mirrors a view for trailering straight down
12:08
at the bottom part of the tailgate again this is nice to have in some cars it's even nicer to have
12:15
in an enormous vehicle like this that doesn't feel as enormous as it is because of the camera
12:21
system because of the incredible turning radius and because of the smoothness that comes with the
12:26
electric implementation. That's a horn. My first time trying it. That's wow. One thing I like about
12:34
this infotainment system, obviously we have a really big screen here. We have wireless Android
12:38
Auto. We have wireless charging over here. Everything just boots up immediately when you
12:41
get in the car. Apple CarPlay is there as well. We have a double screen setup, so the important
12:46
information is here. A little bit of nav. Obviously you have your range, some time, temperature, and so
12:51
forth, plus the smart driving features with the adaptive cruise and everything that's in here. You
12:56
have the nice led strip in the steering wheel voice control some of those adaptive smart features
13:02
over here this thing basically will i mean practically drive itself on the highway you
13:06
also have volume under the right hand side and the back side of the steering wheel and then you
13:11
can skip tracks and so forth on the other side but then it's not all touchscreen we've also got
13:17
actual switches and there's some cool ui elements passenger puts on their heated seat clicks here
13:22
Now these buttons become activated. This becomes three different capabilities underneath one switch
13:29
Maybe it's the cooled seat that you want, but it's all underneath the seat switch
13:34
One thing I like about this, it doesn't overwhelm your main dash. So if I'm looking at a map or multimedia or something
13:40
and the passenger wants to turn on the heated seat, that's between them and their heated seat and has nothing to do with me
13:46
And it's not distracting at all. It's the power of switches. And the same thing goes for if you just want to quickly turn up or turn down the fan
13:52
It's right here. You don have to go into any menu system Those animations Yeah they cool Look when you go for the climate look at the font they chosen futuristic Plus you have really grippy texture across
14:05
these switches, so you're not going to miss them. Who wants to fiddle through a menu when you're
14:09
freezing in a freezing climate in the middle of winter? You just want to put your heated steering
14:14
wheel on. That's it. You just want to hit the switch. You don't want to be inside of a menu
14:18
and certainly not if you're wearing gloves. And who knows, maybe you're crazy and you want to have
14:22
the roof off in the winter. It might be a winter convertible, but then things get really magical
14:28
when you reach for this dial, which is your mode dial. As I toggle through it, we get all kinds of
14:34
fun animations here. You can set up your own custom mode. Click this switch here and I can
14:40
adjust the responsiveness of the steering from normal to off-road terrain. Same thing for
14:45
suspension and acceleration. Motor sound options. Normal is going to be your day-to-day. There's a
14:52
tow haul mode for when you're pulling. Notice what he's pulling here. A rocket? That's a Hummer EV
14:57
pulling a rocket because that you might pull that. Yeah that's not bad. Normal mode you're already on
15:02
the moon. Tow haul you got a space shuttle going on. Terrain mode is the wildest. You're fully
15:08
off-road. This is where you can manually adjust your suspension all the way up. There's also off-road
15:14
and then back to my mode. I'll keep it in normal mode for now but this animation just makes you
15:18
excited to drive. Everything in this interior has like a kind of utilitarian feel to it. It's funny
15:24
because my initial impression of it was, wait, is this a luxury vehicle or a utility vehicle
15:32
What is the premise? I began to appreciate the fact that these materials feel like they can get
15:37
beat up. They don't feel like you have to baby them. It's not about Alcantara. It's about
15:42
durability and materials that you don't even think about or worry about. You also have a cover here
15:48
for two large size cup holders. You still have a gear selector
15:52
obviously an homage to previous days. Beefy and feeling like it belongs
15:57
There's a door there as well. Opens up to your wireless charger, plus a little cubby type C and type A connector
16:03
and more beefy air vents that you can quickly reach up and direct
16:08
We open up the glove box, super simple bin to keep some stuff in
16:14
If you're not charging your phone, you have a really natural place to put it here
16:17
I'll pop this open. Huge storage capacity in here. Nice little tray for smaller items. We have a light
16:23
inside this box, and we've also got a 12 volt to power things up that happen to live in there
16:28
I have a very specific position I like to be in in trucks. I like to feel like I'm kind of up over
16:34
the road. This seat gives you enough extension to get to that position that you want, and sometimes
16:39
the issue then becomes where's your eyeline in relationship to the windshield, but this is a
16:45
perfect map for me and i think it'll work for most people but it does have plenty of adjustability
16:52
on the seat including the headrest let's hop into the back seat now getting in is especially fun
16:58
when the roof is off you don't even really have to bend at all check out the leg room that seat
17:04
was in a position that i liked as a person who's six feet tall and look at me in the back like i
17:12
am just swimming with room here i could be here for extended periods of time without question we
17:19
have our own climate controls plus a little display little cubby to store things which is kind of
17:25
non-slip so you can put a phone down there household ac type port but we've also got type c and type a
17:32
usb for charging up your devices these seats are the same material as elsewhere in the vehicle
17:37
Very robust, all about durability. We have storage compartments, secret storage compartments in the seats
17:45
So this is going to be useful for concealing any type of precious material or valuable material
17:52
Or just having some personal storage on a road trip so each kid can just kind of put their stuff in one spot
17:58
Pull down from the center and we have two more cup holders
18:02
This is a pretty solid construction as well. What if we want to maximize our carrying capacity in this backseat
18:11
This is the double-sided lift up. So with the seats up, we're going to increase our cargo capacity quite substantially
18:18
But the thing is, now with EV trucks like this one, since you're getting a frunk
18:23
you might not even have to use this space nearly as frequently because you have nice sealed weatherproof storage in the front of the vehicle
18:31
and it's right on the key fob in this case. All right, listen. It's a truck
18:35
It's still a truck. You still have a bed. We have our liner in here so we can throw things in
18:41
beat it up, and not worry about it. A metal cover. Pretty solid thing. It's motorized
18:48
so it slides back. You're seeing this on a lot of EVs. Now, getting into it is made even easier
18:54
because of the handle on the side, which locks into place. And that just gives you something
19:00
to grip over here as you get up into the bed. It has to be one of the easiest beds to get into
19:05
because of that handle and, of course, because of the step. We also have some hooks in here
19:10
We have lights in the back here, drain tubes for water buildup on top of the cover
19:16
and we've also got power. Also, dogs love it. And obviously, Otis doesn't want Kovu to have all the fun
19:27
but he prefers the front end. He's more of a frunk guy. wait wait
19:40
we're out here now we are floating right now the attributes of the vehicle they change
19:49
with your drive modes substantially like you can feel the difference it's not just
19:54
a fancy animation it's an actual adjustment to vehicle dynamics in normal mode for everyday
20:02
driving balances vehicle performance and range and will remain on at the next vehicle startup
20:09
Tow haul, towing heavy loads, adjust throttle response to compensate for heavier load. Terrain
20:13
is for tackling steep hills, crawling over extreme obstacles. Rear steering rate is increased for
20:18
extra maneuverability. This is a really responsive mode. So driving around with like the elevated
20:24
suspension, you're able to feel the articulation of each individual tire. And then obviously off
20:31
road, loose surfaces requiring extra traction, grass, mud, gravel, and deep snow
20:38
Jesus Christ, I'm nervous, boys. Watts to freedom armed. You can see that the vehicle has completed its lowering process
20:51
You have G on the left side torque across the top and now it telling me how hard to brake before i launch it i got to get to there and then floor it that pretty amazing the way that they done this they
21:06
really turned it into it's like entertainment yeah absolutely you look at this visual where
21:12
are you are you on the moon what is this star wars scenario any last words boys
21:18
oh my god i'm nervous oh my god
21:30
i feel free
21:42
baby it hits you in the chest the g's they hit you in the chest
21:51
man there's something about that electric dump that is tough to replicate it's all at once
22:02
without hesitation it just nails you this thing adrenaline wise it's on par with those other cars i realize if you look at the spec sheet
22:14
it might not be exact but it does deserve the name super truck it's doing super things
22:20
and when you consider the weight and what you are piloting the experience
22:26
is completely on par with those other super electric cars holy boys
22:35
my seat vibrates when i'm gonna hit oh if i'm gonna hit the wall it'll buzz you your butt
23:00
in the direction of the obstruction. No, so you know if it's behind or front
23:06
You know if it's to the right, back right, back left. It's so big that it's considered a place
23:23
Not a vehicle, but a place. You could live in here, couldn't you
23:27
You could do like a weekend. Oh yeah. Van life? Okay, so I got the deal on the car wash, but then he stepped things up further in an unexpected
23:43
way in the form of cotton candy. The cool one here is to put the camera on here as well
23:57
It's an ultimate wash so we're getting all types of treatments here. Right
24:12
It's just some people think they need the whole racket. They need the spinning brushes and things and there's a point to that
24:20
But if your car's not that dirty to begin with like this one, you really just need a
24:25
rinse anyway. Yeah. Don't touch my car. Make it a touchless. Don't touch my car
24:43
No leaks or anything. That's good news. I mean, there's huge seals on here when you kind of clamp it in
24:52
But they're super easy to remove as well. so oh baby
25:12
many colors i mean the best part hands down yeah easily it's not even close of the car wash experience
25:21
this is another key part is managing the dryer at the very end so you have 80 seconds roughly 85
25:32
maybe to work with at this particular car wash and you want to distribute that correctly across
25:38
the entirety of your vehicle but of course you're in control because it's one location and you're
25:44
sort of rolling through here trying to maximize your 80 seconds of drying so you don't want to
25:50
rush past the nose or the windshield but you also want to make sure you get the rear end involved
25:54
so like at this point i'm 30 seconds in 50 remaining i gotta move ever so slightly but i
26:02
still have a little bit too much water content up front now i'm kind of in this middle range
26:07
somewhere above my own head i'm down to 39 seconds it's many things to take into consideration
26:14
as you move through. Normally you're not recording a video either so really trying to nail it
26:22
In most cases 27, 26, 25, 24. We keep moving and we have a long vehicle here. Don't panic
26:32
We're on to the rear glass and the cover now. What's my time left
26:41
10, nine, eight, seven, six, five. It's not my best work. Yo, Kirk, that's a hell of a pose
27:02
What was that you were doing? Because I get a middle finger like this. But the youngins, they're like..
27:07
Wow, that's really difficult for you to do that. They used to..
27:12
What's going on with your head? Colville. Colville. You're in that. Put it down
27:17
It's more casual. It's more casual. Your claw grip there just loosens things up
27:22
It's cramping. For me, it was like this when I was young
27:28
I know. But they go like... There you go, like. You do it
27:34
You do it. It's loose. It's a loose thing. Oh, I'm too..
27:38
It's loose. Rigid. Okay. Yeah, but these are the fingers you need to loosen up
27:43
I don't think your index finger doesn't work properly. Did you break that thing
27:47
What about your other hand? Can't use any of this, dude
