Basking Shark These peaceful creatures are similar, but unrelated to, whale sharks. They are so named because of their love for swimming in the warm, surface waters of temperate oceans all over the world as if basking in the sun. Basking sharks are filter-feeders. When they open their mouths wide and swim forward, tiny bones projecting from the gills filter out the water out leaving tiny fish and small invertebrate creatures that they can eat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basking_shark 4. Pesquet's Parrot Also known as "vulturine parrot," this parrot is found only in the rainforests of New Guinea and is truly one of a kind with no other member in their genus. Pesquet's parrot is a dedicated fruit eater, feeding almost exclusively on figs. Just as vultures have bald faces to prevent rotting meat from sticking to their feathers, these parrots have bald faces, too, to keep fruit from sticking to them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pesquet%27s_parrot 5. Marine Iguana Found only on the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador, these lizards have the unique ability to dive as deep as 30 meters underwater and stay submerged for as long as one hour. Marine iguana are the only lizards to spend so much time in the ocean. They do this to forage on red and green algae which grow on the deep ocean rocks. They can grow up to four feet long and weigh up to 12 kg. They are also excellent climbers. Equipped with long, sharp claws, they can hold onto rocks and even walls to propel themselves along. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_iguana#/media/File:Marine_iguana_climbing_the_wall_Santa_Cruz_Island_Gal%C3%A1pagos_Ecuador_DSC00224_ad.JPG 6. Mudskippers Mudskippers are amphibious fish that have evolved to live outside of the water as well. They are quite active out of the water and are often found socializing, feeding, courting potential partners, or defending their territories. One of their interesting features is their side fins. Located a little lower on their body and oriented forwards, they function as legs when on land, helping them move. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudskipper 7. Wrap-Around Spider This Australian spider has a unique body that's shaped like an inverted, concave dish allowing it to flatten itself on a branch perfectly, making it hard to detect. In addition to this, it has another smart camouflage feature - a pattern of oval discs that covers its body, giving it the nickname "leopard spider." https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/blogs/creatura-blog/2018/07/wrap-around-spider/ 8. Dire Wolf Dog The dire wolf dog is a breed created through three decades of breeding as part of The Dire Wolf Project started in 1988. Silkie Chicken The silkie is the fluffiest chicken ever in the world. Its plumage is silky, like fur, and it comes in a variety of colors including lavender, red, and blue.
