Linux Distributions

So into our previous slide, already we have seen about the Linux operating system

I've shown you what are the basic concepts of your operating system and introduce the Linux

operating system to you. Also we have seen that it is an open source operating system and can be modified and distributed

by anyone. So here we are going to see some of the distributions which are distributed from some popular

companies and we have seen and heard much about them. So let us discuss about the distributions

Let me make you understand what the distributions are and how they are termed

These distributions are generally called as distros. So we can say distros are nothing but the abbreviations of your distributions

So you might have learned or listens anywhere like this is the distro of your Linux

Distro is nothing but the distributor company who is going to distribute this

So this basically this particular distributions are not the different additions generally we have

Like into the other operating systems which is more popular like your Windows. You have different additions, you have different operating systems like Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server operating systems

But here we have different divisions of this operating systems based on the program and the application groupings into it So while we have we are working with this particular applications or with the particular Linux

they have some group of certain applications or some packages. So, generally they are distributed with different terms called as server applications for creating server infrastructures

which contains all the particular protocols, all the particular packages for building your infrastructure and serving the services

But it is completely a core operating system. You generally don't have desktops so that it can consume much of the resources and provide a reliable server

The next we have that is a desktop. So, Dextop is for a client users

They will get the graphics and built into it. That's the reason they are called as a desktop

So basically like your Windows operating system, you also have a graphical interface where you can work completely as you use in the Windows operating systems

The next we have that is for secure. have that is for security. Now if I'm talking about the security as I care other operating systems, Linux also

provide security but comparatively this security which is provided into Linux is much more

than the other securities provided by the Windows operating systems Hence the server or the Linux operating systems are created as more secure operating systems because we have multiple features for this security into it

The last one we have which is live DVD. Now if suppose you are going to try your Ubuntu or any particular Linux operating system

and you want to see whether you are comfortable working it on or not

So without installing this operating system, you can also use this Linux operating system

just by using the live DVD. You just need to insert this live DVD onto your DVD drive and run it

Automatically you will feel the operating system is installed into the system

Either it is not installed and you will be able to use your operating system as it is

So now I'm going to talk about some of the distributors who are very popular into the market

You might have heard about them like your Red Hat. So Red Hat is one of the distributor who distributes the commercial operating system for the server infrastructures

and using this particular operating system into the red hat. the industries. Same way if you do not want to use it for the commercial purposes, you

can have the Debian option. So Debian is having a bit different command than your Red Hat

but generally it gives you awesome look and you can use it for non so you do not have to buy any license for using this The same way we also have Mandriva So Mandrava is one of the operating system

which is again used for commercial purposes for building the servers by different

organizations in different countries like your French companies and Europe companies and also into the Brazil. So it is completely used as a commercial purpose as well

So next we have that is Ubhinjjjj. So, you might have heard about Ubintu or you might have seen this operating system into your colleges

So this is completely free that some more and more people are migrating for the Ubintu

And Ubuntu provides you all the packages which you require. You can easily download the packages

You can use your Ubuntu like your Windows operating system. So Ubuntu is nothing but the Debian copy or a Debian desktop version

So here you will have a desktop version, desktop interface, so that you can manage and use this particular operating system as you use into the Windows

Along with that, it also provides you the command line interfaces, like if you want to run

the commands, if you want to use your operating system into the commands, and explore

your Linux, you can use the command line interfaces as well. So here basically we have seen some of the distributors
