90% Of My Body Is Tattooed | HOOKED ON THE LOOK

INDIA has been getting tattoos since she was 12 years old. 90% of her body is covered, but she estimates she has spent only "a couple of hundred bucks" on her distinctive ink. "I was able to get tattooed before I was 18 because I had a close friend that knew a tattoo artist. I bought the equipment and ink, so it was really cheap." Now aged 33, India has little room to spare with tattoos covering the majority of her body, including her face, neck and hands. "I have one foot that's not tattooed", she admitted. "Feet tattoos hurt so bad." Her reasons for permanently marking her skin go deep. "Tattoos [are] my therapy", she said. "When I [feel] sad and depressed, I get tattoos and I feel better." Because of the extreme nature of her tattoos, India's alternative look garners a lot of attention. "When I'm out and about people definitely look at me weird," she said. "I get stared at all the time. I catch them looking and they turn their head." However unusual India's look may seem to the outside world, this doesn't change her opinion of the importance of tattoos in her life and on her body. "I love looking different, I love being different. No one can say, you look like [that]; it's a lie. I look like me." But now India is undergoing a radical transformation, covering her tattoos and seeing herself with bare skin for the first time since childhood. She explained her reasoning, "I decided to cover my tattoos today because a lot of people on social media be like, do you ever do full face makeup [with] no tattoos? A lot of people are curious and I'm also curious to see how I look without the tattoos on the face. I don't even remember unless I look at an old picture of me. [I'm] kind of nervous."
