The last thing that experienced hiker
0:01
Joshua expected to find in the forest
0:04
was a lone horse.
0:05
And by the look of things, he had
0:07
probably run away from an owner. But one
0:09
look down made Joshua realize that the
0:11
last thing he needed to do was return
0:13
the horse to this owner. He needed to
0:15
take action and made a call for help.
0:18
But would this help make it to them in
0:19
time?
0:20
Joshua was stressed out beyond belief
0:23
while trying to keep the horse calm. Its
0:25
owners had to be looking for him right
0:26
now.
0:27
He had no doubt about that. And hiding a
0:30
beast like this was impossible if they
0:32
came anywhere close to them.
0:34
Then suddenly he heard noise and voices
0:36
in the distance.
0:37
This could either be trouble or the help
0:39
he had called in. Joshua looked down by
0:41
the horse again. His heart just sank
0:44
looking at this poor animal.
0:45
He understood completely why it had run
0:47
away.
0:48
If these were the owners, he was going
0:50
to put up a fight for this poor animal.
0:52
He could not let them get their hands on
0:54
it.
0:54
But what did the owners do to the horse?
0:57
How had it gotten so deep in the forest?
0:59
And what did Joshua see looking down?

1:08
Ah, hiking.
1:10
One of Joshua's favorite hobbies.
1:12
Twice a month, he goes out into the
1:14
woods or to some far away undisturbed
1:16
place and he loves every second of it.
1:19
This month it was Joshua's second hike.
1:21
He was going to a forest. He already
1:23
knew the quiet place very well. But when
1:26
he got close to it, he saw that
1:28
something was off.
1:29
The forest wasn't so quiet. At the
1:31
forest's usual entrance, dozens of
1:33
people were gathered. It was common for
1:35
people to go hiking in the morning, but
1:37
not that many people. And something made
1:40
it look even weirder. It had to do with
1:42
the way people behaved. "They're not
1:44
here to enjoy nature's beauty." Joshua
1:46
thought. When people go hiking, they
1:48
usually have a light and content mood,
1:50
especially in the morning.
1:52
However, the people who were gathered at
1:54
the forest weren't [music] happy and
1:56
giggling. Actually, it seemed like they
1:59
were having a fiery discussion.
2:02
Curiously, Joshua approached them to see
2:04
what was happening.
2:06
But, as he approached, they stopped
2:08
talking and adopted a cautious and
2:11
defensive behavior. It was obvious to
2:13
Joshua
2:14
he wasn't welcome in that discussion.
2:16
Still, he was worried that something bad
2:18
could have happened.
2:19
"Is everything all right?" he humbly
2:21
asked. The reply was blurted out quickly
2:23
by several people at once.
2:26
"Yes."
2:27
Although he was very patient, Joshua
2:29
knew these people didn't want his help.
2:32
"Do they need help at all?" he wondered.
2:34
"I guess I'll never know."
2:36
He was wrong, quite wrong.
2:38
Joshua decided to head his way.
2:41
And his way was the forest. He shrugged,
2:44
grabbed his hiking equipment, and began
2:45
to walk towards the trees. "Where are
2:47
you going?" a man accusingly shouted.
2:50
"To the forest." Joshua matter-of-factly
2:52
replied, "I'll enjoy nature."
2:55
The man was silent, and Joshua simply
2:58
kept going. Joshua didn't know it yet,
3:01
but that was the last time he'd deal
3:02
with those people, at least directly.
3:05
As he walked, Joshua was immersed in the
3:07
forest's environment. The sounds of
3:09
leaves and birds were everything to him.
3:11
But then, the weirdness of that
3:13
encounter at the woods' entrance
3:14
infiltrated his mind.
3:17
It almost kept him from enjoying his
3:18
hike. His willpower, though, made him
3:21
remain focused on the music of the
3:22
forest.
3:24
He needed to focus. After all, he
3:26
planned to stay there for the whole
3:28
afternoon. As much as he tried to remain
3:30
focused on the trip, there were moments
3:32
Joshua's thoughts wandered to the people
3:34
back at the entrance.
3:35
"They were so weird," he thought.
3:38
It worried him. Something wasn't right
3:40
about them. He couldn't shake the
3:42
feeling that there was a problem around.
3:43
He even felt like he was being watched.
3:46
He looked all over, but couldn't find
3:48
anything.
3:49
At least for now. He kept walking
3:51
further into the forest. He was so deep
3:53
in the woods that if anyone wanted to
3:55
follow him, they'd probably lose their
3:57
way if they even had the legs required
4:00
to walk so far. By logic, "No one could
4:03
follow me so deep into the forest." he
4:05
thought to himself.
4:07
"But no one was following me anyways,
4:09
I'm sure."
4:10
And so he calmed down.
4:12
After a lot of enjoyable walking, Joshua
4:14
got to a point where the hike's path was
4:15
almost gone. Vegetation was well
4:17
developed and clearly this was a very
4:21
deep region of the forest.
4:23
He could barely see the way forward.
4:25
After breathing the air and looking
4:27
around for a bit, he realized,
4:30
"I've never been to this part."
4:32
The bushes were high and wide.
4:34
The path wasn't actually noticeable.
4:36
Small critters made all kinds of [music]
4:38
sounds.
4:39
These things made it clear that not many
4:41
people had been to that region of the
4:42
woods.
4:43
It was purely virgin, untouched nature.
4:47
It was like a paradise to Joshua and he
4:49
enjoyed every inch of it. That is, until
4:51
he heard something.
4:53
Something odd. Joshua had a lot of
4:55
experience with forests. He knew almost
4:57
all of the thousands of different sounds
4:59
you can hear in the woods. This
5:01
particular sound though was different.
5:03
It came from an animal, but Joshua
5:05
didn't know what kind of animal it was.
5:08
It sounded like it didn't belong there
5:10
and the way it groaned made it sound
5:12
big. Many things rushed to Joshua's
5:14
mind.
5:16
"Should I follow the sound?
5:17
Maybe it's nothing."
5:19
And
5:20
with a shudder,
5:22
he wondered,
5:23
"What if it's a dangerous animal?" While
5:25
he tried to make reason out of the
5:26
situation, the sound reached him again.
5:29
While initially he felt curiosity, then
5:32
felt fear,
5:33
now the sound made him feel something
5:35
else. It was a sound of pain, the sound
5:37
an animal makes when it needs help.
5:39
Joshua could feel that was it even
5:41
though he didn't know which animal it
5:42
was. At least, that's what he thought.
5:44
And so, breathing deeply and putting his
5:47
fears aside, he followed the sound.
5:50
"The poor thing," he thought while
5:52
walking towards the animal's groans and
5:54
cries. As he walked, the sounds got
5:56
louder and louder. That indicated he was
5:58
headed the right direction.
6:01
With the animal's cry for help becoming
6:03
more loud and clear, Joshua began to
6:05
imagine just which animal it was.
6:07
However, before he could know with
6:08
certainty, he saw something big and
6:10
brown move between the trunks and green
6:12
leaves. While walking towards it, he
6:15
said to himself, "It can't be."
6:17
Slowly and silently,
6:19
Joshua approached the brown animal.
6:22
He managed to get closer until he could
6:24
see it clearly. He almost didn't believe
6:26
his eyes. A big, beautiful, and healthy
6:29
brown horse was there, alone, amidst the
6:32
bushes, branches, and leaves.
6:34
"Just what on earth is going on?" Joshua
6:36
thought to himself.
6:38
With his jaw dropped, Joshua couldn't
6:40
help but exclaim to himself, "A horse!"
6:43
He didn't mean to, but his loud remark
6:45
made the horse slightly scared. The poor
6:47
thing [music] looked lost and stepped
6:49
back when it saw Joshua. Still, as much
6:53
as it looked afraid, Joshua realized it
6:55
must be used to people. It had man-made
6:57
ropes around its neck and head.
7:00
"What is going on?"
7:01
was Joshua's biggest thought. Many ideas
7:04
crossed his mind about what could have
7:05
happened so that the horse ended up
7:07
there, in front of him, in the middle of
7:09
nowhere. But then,
7:11
eyeing the shy, spooked horse, Joshua
7:13
realized what happened.
7:15
All it took was looking down. It was
7:17
something frightening. Joshua's face
7:19
went white. The people back at the
7:21
entrance, they they oh god. And so, it
7:25
was clear to him,
7:27
those people were searching for this
7:28
horse.
7:30
It all made sense. But,
7:33
if Joshua's line of thought was correct,
7:35
then he couldn't let them reach the
7:36
animal.
7:38
He had to keep them away.
7:40
In order to help the horse,
7:42
Joshua needed to make it calm down. The
7:44
poor thing was scared, even more so with
7:46
Joshua approaching it. "Hey, hey." he
7:49
whispered.
7:51
"I'm here to help you, big boy."
7:53
All that Joshua wanted was the horse's
7:55
trust [music]
7:56
so that he could get it out of there as
7:58
quickly as possible. However, when
8:00
Joshua looked down again at the horse,
8:02
he felt bad for it. It wouldn't surprise
8:05
him if the animal had lost all trust in
8:06
humans.
8:08
The poor thing had probably gone through
8:09
a lot at the hands of people.
8:11
Still, Joshua just needed to help the
8:14
horse escape. Luckily, he had a gift,
8:16
one that came in handy. For all his
8:18
life, Joshua had a way with animals.
8:22
This situation was no exception. As he
8:24
approached, the horse visibly calmed
8:26
down. It even allowed him to grab its
8:28
leash.
8:30
Now,
8:31
"Now what?" Joshua said to himself and
8:33
the horse. "I need to get you out of
8:35
here, buddy."
8:37
The thing is,
8:38
he needed to do that
8:40
without the people out there knowing.
8:42
Luckily, Joshua succeeded in this and
8:45
managed to bring the horse to the police
8:46
and report what he had found.
8:48
The horse's leg was branded with a sign
8:50
that he was ready to go to the
8:51
slaughter. These people wanted to
8:53
illegally make food out of them. The
8:55
police took the Los Taricosation case
8:57
very seriously and are now looking for
8:59
these people.
