Rosatom Chief Executive Alexei Likhachev stated on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi that nuclear cooperation among BRICS countries continues to strengthen despite the burden of sanctions, disrupted logistics, payment system difficulties and broken supply chains, describing BRICS as the only geopolitical grouping that has managed to build cooperation stronger as a result of these challenges rather than weakened by them. Likhachev highlighted Russia's work on India's Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, noting that the first two Russian-built reactors have generated more than 132 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and represent the two largest units among India's seven nuclear power plants, while confirming that Unit 3 is approaching its physical launch, with equipment delivery more than 99 percent complete and startup operations expected in February or March. He noted that four of the eight gigawatts of nuclear generation currently being developed in India use Russian technology, and expressed hope that India's new SHANTI Act legislation would attract additional partners and provide momentum for expanding the Kudankulam project further, supporting India's target of building up to 100 gigawatts of nuclear generation capacity by 2047. Likhachev additionally proposed expanding BRICS cooperation to include logistics through the Northern Sea Route, suggesting it could become a transcontinental transport corridor connecting with partners across Southeast Asia, and noted that BRICS represents more than 40 percent of global gross domestic product with a forecast to account for more than half of global energy consumption within 15 to 20 years. The two-day summit, held under India's BRICS chairship and themed Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, brought together leaders and senior representatives from the bloc's 11 member countries. #timesnowworld, #rosatom, #brics, #likhachev, #kudankulam, #russiaindia, #nuclearenergy, #bricssummit2026, #russianuclear, #indianuclear, #rosatomceo, #newdelhi, #northernsearoute, #shantiact, #nuclearcooperation, #brics2026, #russiaindiapartnership, #breakingnews, #worldnews, #geopolitics In this Times Now World News report, we break down the this topic: Stay connected with Times Now World for real-time global news and analysis: Read full coverage: https://www.timesnownews.com/world Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timesnow.world Follow us on X: https://x.com/TimesNow_World #timesnowworld #worldnews #breakingnews rosatom likhachev brics nuclear, kudankulam nuclear plant unit 3, russia india nuclear cooperation, rosatom sanctions defiance brics, kudankulam 132 billion kilowatt hours, india nuclear generation 100 gigawatts, rosatom northern sea route proposal, brics nuclear dimension growing, shanti act india nuclear, rosatom fourth generation project, brics 40 percent global gdp, russia india nuclear partnership 2026, kudankulam unit 3 launch 2027, rosatom ceo new delhi summit, brics nuclear energy future 2026
