MACRON IN CRISIS: France's Least Popular Leader as 82% Disapprove Amid Political & Economic Turmoil
Oct 12, 2026
French President Emmanuel Macron's popularity has fallen to its lowest level since he took office in 2017, with 82% of respondents disapproving of his performance and just 15% expressing a favourable opinion, according to an Ipsos BVA-Cesi survey for La Tribune Dimanche. The poll comes as the government faces student protests, a fuel crisis and a difficult budget debate, while purchasing power remains the leading concern for 54% of respondents. Far-right National Rally leaders Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen have also lost ground, recording favourable ratings of 33% and 32%, respectively, following revelations about messages attributed to Bardella that he has denied. Former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe recorded 20% favourable opinions, while Sarah Knafo and former President François Hollande each received 18%. Radical-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon registered 17% favourable opinions, but 69% said they would be unhappy if he moved into the Élysée Palace. The online survey questioned 1,000 adults on October 7 and 8, 2026.
