Oct 24, 2026
Italy is preparing a major security operation ahead of nationwide protests against the rising cost of living on October 24, with authorities concerned about a repeat of violent incidents reported on October 17 and 18. According to Euronews, around 1,500 officers are expected to be deployed in Rome, while Milan plans to mobilise approximately 1,800 security personnel, including 500 soldiers. Police drones and Carabinieri aircraft will support surveillance, while authorities monitor online activity amid reports of social media guides offering advice on preparing for clashes. Demonstrations are planned in several cities, including Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Genoa and Florence. Meanwhile, Digos conducted searches targeting around 100 people, including 51 minors, following the earlier unrest. Authorities face the challenge of maintaining public order as demonstrations over rising living costs gather momentum.
