United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the BRICS summit, arguing that today's economic, demographic and geopolitical realities differ fundamentally from those of 1945 and that world governance institutions, including the UN Security Council and the Bretton Woods financial system, must be reformed to reflect contemporary conditions and the growing shift toward a multipolar world order. Guterres called for reform of the international financial architecture to give developing countries greater participation and influence in decision-making processes, urging multilateral development banks to become bigger, better and bolder in mobilising private investment and expanding concessional funding, while addressing historic injustices through a development-oriented debt architecture. On artificial intelligence, he warned that the technology's power remains concentrated among a small number of companies and countries, cautioning that an unchecked AI divide would widen existing gaps in income, opportunity, security and sovereignty, and called for full support of the Global Network for AI Capacity Building and the Global Fund for AI to address deficits in computing power, data and skills across developing nations. Guterres warned that the world will soon breach the 1.5 degree climate threshold, calling for accelerated transition from fossil fuels to renewables, and demanded that developed countries fulfil existing climate finance commitments of 300 billion dollars annually, triple adaptation finance, and provide greater resources for loss and damage, while insisting that critical minerals be responsibly managed to add value and jobs within producing countries rather than face what he described as continued plundering. He concluded by calling for peace across ongoing conflicts including Gaza, the broader Middle East, Ukraine and Sudan, urging all states to respect their obligations under the UN Charter and international law as the world moves toward a multipolar system centred on a strengthened United Nations. #timesnowworld, #guterres, #un, #brics, #unitednations, #bricssummit2026, #multipolarworld, #unreform, #aigovernance, #climatejustice, #globalsouth, #securitycouncilreform, #brettonwoods, #guterresspeech, #newdelhi, #undevelopmentgoals, #climatefinance, #breakingnews, #worldnews, #geopolitics In this Times Now World News report, we break down the this topic: Stay connected with Times Now World for real-time global news and analysis: Read full coverage: https://www.timesnownews.com/world Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timesnow.world Follow us on X: https://x.com/TimesNow_World #timesnowworld #worldnews #breakingnews guterres brics summit speech, un security council reform, guterres multipolar world order, un ai divide warning, guterres climate 1.5 degree limit, un 300 billion climate finance, guterres bretton woods reform, un ai governance global fund, guterres critical minerals plundering, un peace gaza ukraine sudan, guterres developing countries finance, un multilateral development banks, guterres brics new delhi 2026, un climate adaptation finance tripled, guterres sustainable development goals
