30+ MMORPGs That Could Launch in 2026
Dec 24, 2025
Looking ahead to 2026, there are more upcoming MMORPGs in development than most players realise, but not all of them will survive to launch.
In this video, I break down EVERY MMORPG I know of that could realistically release in 2026, ranging from games already entering early access, to ambitious AAA projects, indie passion projects, and a few titles that may already be quietly dead.
This is a grounded look at where each game actually stands, based on development progress, playtests, delays, funding, and communication from the teams behind them.
Whether you’re looking for classic MMORPGs, sandbox MMOs, VR MMORPGs, mobile-first MMOs, or next-gen Unreal Engine projects, this video gives you a clear picture of what’s coming and what might never arrive.

I've been tracking upcoming MMO RPGs
0:02
obsessively for years, and looking ahead
0:04
to 2026, there are over 20 projects that
0:08
could potentially launch. Some are
0:10
close, some are ambitious, and a few
0:12
might already be dead. But as we've all
0:14
learned with MMO RPGs, nothing is ever
0:17
truly dead until it's officially
0:19
cancelled. So, in this video, I'm going
0:21
to walk you through every MMO RPG I know
0:24
of that could realistically launch in
0:26
2026. From early access releases already
0:29
locked in, two risky passion projects,
0:32
AAA experiments, and a few question
0:34
marks that may never see the light of
0:36
day.
0:42
Past Fate is an openw world fantasy MMO
0:45
RPG built around player freedom in a
0:47
classic medieval setting. The game leans
0:50
heavily into exploration, sailing, and
0:52
sandbox style progression, letting
0:54
players travel between continents and
0:56
islands, build settlements and ships,
0:59
and take part in group dungeons and
1:00
large scale PvE encounters. I've tested
1:03
past fate in its early state, and it
1:06
clearly positions itself closer to old
1:08
school MMOs that value freedom and world
1:10
interaction over guided theme park
1:12
design. During early access, the
1:14
developers are planning to expand the
1:16
game with new zones, quests, raids,
1:18
world bosses, conquest systems, and
1:20
deeper naval gameplay. Past Fate enters
1:22
early access on January 7th, and it's
1:25
one to watch if you enjoy slower
1:27
explorationdriven MMOs. Hightail is a
1:30
voxalbased sandbox RPG that sits
1:33
somewhere between a traditional MMO RPG
1:35
and a fully moddable survival game. It
1:37
blends open world exploration, RPG style
1:40
progression, responsive combat, and deep
1:43
building systems inside a procedurally
1:45
generated world filled with dungeons,
1:47
creatures, and hidden events. But what
1:49
stands out is how it visually looks like
1:51
Minecraft while mechanically leaning
1:53
more towards classic RPG combat,
1:55
including Sword and Shield gameplay and
1:57
structured PvE encounters. The early
2:00
access release focuses on exploration,
2:02
combat, building, and creator first
2:04
tools with community servers and
2:06
miniames planned as the game evolves.
2:09
Hightail enters early access on January
2:11
13th, and it's shaping up to be one of
2:13
the most ambitious sandbox RPG projects
2:15
for a long time. Epitome is a next
2:18
generation fantasy MMO RPG built around
2:21
AI supported NPCs and large-scale shared
2:25
worlds. The core idea is that NPCs
2:27
aren't static quest givers. They can
2:29
hold voice-to-Voice conversations,
2:31
remember past interactions, negotiate
2:34
rewards, and dynamically shape quests
2:36
and dialogue based on player choices.
2:39
What's important to clarify is that the
2:41
game itself isn't made by AI. It's built
2:43
by a traditional development team with
2:45
AI used specifically to bring NPCs and
2:47
world interactions to life. At launch,
2:50
Epitome features four playable classes,
2:52
a shared world designed to support tens
2:54
of thousands of players, and a firm no
2:56
pay to-win stance. Instant access begins
2:59
via Kickstarter in January 2026, making
3:02
this one of the more experimental and
3:04
ambitious MMO RPG projects heading into
3:07
2026. Monsters and Memories is a classic
3:10
old school MMO RPG heavily inspired by
3:14
early EverQuest built around slow,
3:16
deliberate progression and group focused
3:18
PvE. I've played this one and it's
3:21
unapologetically retro. You're expected
3:23
to figure things out, remember commands,
3:25
and work closely with other players and
3:27
take your time with combat and
3:28
progression. It deliberately rejects
3:30
modern conveniences like fast travel and
3:32
solo friendly design in favor of social
3:35
dependency and meaningful group play.
3:38
Personally, it's maybe a little too
3:40
retro for me. I grew up on Tibia rather
3:43
than EverQuest, but it's clearly a
3:45
passion project and one of the strongest
3:47
classic style MMO RPGs currently in
3:50
development. Monsters and Memories is
3:52
planning to enter early access in Q1
3:55
2026, though that timeline could shift
3:58
as testing continues. Eldra Haven in the
4:02
Mist is an ambitious VR MMO RPG built
4:06
around social play, exploration, and
4:08
flexible class design. I've actually
4:10
backed this one on Kickstarter, partly
4:13
because MMO RPGs in VR are incredibly
4:15
rare, and Elramore feels like a genuine
4:18
attempt to do it properly rather than
4:20
create some kind of gimmick. The game
4:22
focuses heavily on community with shared
4:24
dungeons, PvP, crafting, and social
4:27
spaces while letting players freely swap
4:30
classes and build on a single character.
4:32
Following a successful Kickstarter
4:34
campaign, Alpha Access for backers is
4:36
now planned for March 2026 with more
4:39
testing phases to follow. Building an
4:41
MMO in VR is a huge challenge, but if
4:43
Elramor pulls it off, it could become
4:45
one of the most important VR MMO RPGs
4:47
that we've ever seen. Camelot Unchained
4:50
is a realm versus realm focused MMO RPG
4:53
designed by Mark Jacobs, the creator of
4:56
Dark Age of Camelot, and it's built
4:58
almost entirely around large-scale PvP.
5:01
The game features three distinct realms,
5:04
playerbuilt cities and fortifications,
5:06
deep crafting systems, and massive
5:09
battles where territory, resources, and
5:12
structures can be destroyed and rebuilt
5:14
by players. PvE exists, but it mainly
5:17
serves the PvP war effort, including
5:19
shared RVR dungeons like the depths,
5:22
where all three realms clash for
5:24
control. I haven't played Camelot
5:25
Unchained, but at this point, its
5:27
biggest issue isn't design, it's time.
5:30
With development stretching over more
5:31
than a decade, much of the original hype
5:34
has faded. And while early access was
5:36
previously targeted for 2025, it's now
5:39
realistically slipping into 2026.
5:42
Soulframe is a fantasy action RPG from
5:44
Digital Extremes. Designed as a slower,
5:47
more deliberate counterpart to Warframe.
5:49
I have played this one, and despite
5:51
being labeled as a pre-alpha, it's
5:53
already surprisingly polished to the
5:55
point where it honestly feels playable
5:57
right now. Combat is weighty and melee
5:59
focused. Exploration is calm and
6:01
atmospheric, and the opening sequence,
6:04
where your character's traits are shaped
6:05
before birth, immediately sets it apart.
6:08
That said, this isn't a traditional MMO
6:11
RPG. There's no massive persistent
6:13
world, and other players are entirely
6:15
optional. Instant access is already
6:18
available through founders packs on the
6:20
website with a full launch currently
6:21
expected for early 2026, making
6:24
Soulframe a strong RPG experience, but
6:27
one that MMO players should approach
6:29
with the right expectation. Maple Story
6:31
Classic World is an official old school
6:34
Maple Story server run by Nexon. built
6:36
as a faithful recreation of the game
6:39
before the Big Bang update. It's being
6:41
developed as a full part of global Maple
6:43
Story, not through the Maple Story
6:45
Worlds platform, and is led by the
6:47
original Maple Story designer, Nemi, who
6:50
worked on the game back in the early
6:51
2000s. The goal is to preserve classic
6:54
progression, social grinding, and iconic
6:58
early zones while adding modern quality
7:00
of life improvements like widescreen
7:02
support with multiple private play tests
7:05
already held and even an in-person
7:07
testing event in California. This looks
7:09
very close to launch with likely release
7:11
window in early 2026. Arvita is a
7:14
hardcore fantasy MMO RPG that leans
7:16
heavily into social gameplay, logistics,
7:19
and serverwide cooperation. Originally a
7:22
solo dev project, it's now backed by a
7:24
newly formed studio called Raid Wipe
7:26
Studio, giving the game for more
7:28
resources and faster development pace.
7:31
Our Vita focuses on partydriven combat,
7:33
deep crafting, territory control, and a
7:36
unique player versus developer system
7:37
where live GMs and systems react to
7:40
player actions in real time. Cities can
7:42
fall, territories can be lost, and the
7:44
world genuinely changes. Combat is
7:47
weighty and deliberate with no fast
7:48
travel, real supply management, and
7:51
meaningful death consequences. Early
7:53
access is currently targeting Q2 2026
7:56
with a one-time box price and optional
7:59
no pay to- win monetization. Spirit Veil
8:02
is a free-to-play class-based action MMO
8:04
RPG inspired by old school titles like
8:07
Ragnarok Online, but designed with
8:10
modern real-time combat. Players choose
8:12
from familiar archetypes such as
8:14
warrior, mage, rogue, or summoner. Then
8:16
progress through branching skill trees,
8:18
gear customization, crafting, and card
8:21
systems. The focus is on exploration,
8:24
loot hunting, and partybased PvE rather
8:26
than automation or autoplay. It's a solo
8:29
developer passion project that's still
8:31
actively evolving with early access
8:34
planned for mid 2026, a full wipe at
8:36
early access launch, and a clear stance
8:39
against pay to- win monetization. Secret
8:42
Forest is a cross-platform MMO RPG
8:44
coming to PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and
8:47
Nintendo Switch 2, making it one of the
8:49
few upcoming MMOs targeting all major
8:52
platforms at once. Set in a fantasy
8:54
world divided between light and
8:56
darkness, it focuses on player choice,
8:59
faction alignment, and a storydriven
9:01
progression. Players choose from 10
9:03
distinct races, zodiacbased stat
9:06
bonuses, and a wide range of
9:08
professions, blending combat, crafting,
9:10
exploration, and social systems like
9:13
marriage, and shared progression. Combat
9:15
is designed to be tactical rather than
9:17
purely stat-based. With level equalized
9:20
zones to keep content fair and
9:21
accessible in group play with closed
9:24
beta approaching, Secret Forest is
9:26
positioning itself as a broad accessible
9:28
MMO RPG built for both console and PC
9:32
audiences. Adrulian Online Adventures is
9:35
a classic inspired voxalbased MMO RPG
9:38
built around exploration community and
9:41
slow meaningful progression. I played a
9:43
test last year and it is very retro. No
9:46
handholding, there's no mini map and a
9:48
real emphasis on physically exploring
9:50
the world and learning it yourself.
9:52
Combat is slower and more punishing.
9:54
Enemies hit hard and preparation
9:56
actually matters, which really leans
9:58
into that old school adventure feel.
10:00
Recent patches have added more content,
10:02
better combat balance, and improved UI
10:05
with the main focus right now being
10:06
server stress testing ahead of launch.
10:09
If you're looking for a forgiving MMO,
10:11
this isn't it. But for players who miss
10:13
demanding explorationdriven MMO RPGs,
10:16
Adrulan is definitely one to look out
10:18
for in 2026. Stars Reach is a sandbox
10:22
science fantasy MMO RPG built around
10:25
fully simulated living worlds in a
10:28
shared single galaxy. What makes it
10:30
stand out is the scale and ambition.
10:32
Planets evolve even when players are
10:34
offline. Environments can be permanently
10:36
changed and everything from crafting to
10:38
politics is driven by players rather
10:40
than scripted systems. The game is
10:43
currently running frequent play tests,
10:45
including recent stress tests, which is
10:47
a strong sign the team is now focusing
10:49
on server stability and scalability.
10:52
With no classes, horizontal progression,
10:54
deep crafting, and even playerrun
10:56
planetary governments, Stars Reach feels
10:59
like a modern attempt to deliver on
11:00
ideas last seen in games like Star Wars
11:03
Galaxies. If they can make this all work
11:05
at scale, it could be one of the most
11:07
interesting sandbox MMO RPGs heading
11:10
into 2026. Afterglow is a mobile sandbox
11:14
MMO RPG set in a post-apocalyptic
11:17
American Southwest 77 years after a
11:20
nuclear war. It's designed specifically
11:23
for busy players with offline
11:24
progression that lets you cue actions
11:26
like gathering, crafting, and
11:28
exploration while you're away, then come
11:30
back to meaningful progress. The design
11:33
philosophy is genuinely interesting.
11:35
Turn-based combat, a playerdriven
11:37
economy, optional PVP zones, and a
11:40
strong stance against payto-win. It's
11:43
currently in alpha testing on Android
11:44
and iOS through flight test with a full
11:47
release plan for 2026, and it feels like
11:50
a rare attempt to deliver real MMO depth
11:52
in short, manageable play sessions. Grim
11:55
Reign is an indie fantasy MMO RPG
11:58
currently running regular play tests on
12:00
Steam. It leans into classic MMO
12:03
structure with a strong mix of solo and
12:05
group content, including instance
12:07
dungeons, open world dungeons,
12:10
gathering, crafting, player housing, and
12:12
scripted boss encounters. Character
12:14
progression is skill-based rather than
12:16
rigid classes, letting players train
12:19
into melee combat, elemental magic,
12:21
witchcraft, healing, or defensive roles
12:24
depending on how they play. The game
12:26
also features a membership style
12:28
monetization that unlocks social and
12:30
quality of life features rather than raw
12:32
power. Grim Reign feels like a slower
12:34
systemdriven MMO aimed at players who
12:37
enjoy exploration, preparation, and
12:39
steady progression rather than fast and
12:41
flashy combat. Scars of Honor is a
12:44
free-to-play fantasy MMO RPG that
12:46
recently appeared on Steam with early
12:49
access currently targeted for Q3 2026.
12:52
It's built around skill-driven, reactive
12:55
combat with a strong emphasis on timing,
12:57
positioning, and player mastery rather
13:00
than passive rotations. The recent
13:02
development live stream showed a game
13:03
that already looks surprisingly far
13:05
along with deep class customization
13:07
through talents and permanent scars that
13:10
shape how your character actually plays.
13:12
The game also features evolving roglike
13:15
style dungeons, structured PvP modes,
13:18
and a firm no pay to-win stance.
13:20
performance in that stream was a bit
13:22
choppy, likely dev server related, but
13:24
overall, Scars of Honor is one of the
13:26
more promising new MMO RPGs, potentially
13:29
aiming for 2026. Chrono Odyssey is a
13:32
next generation action MMO RPG built on
13:35
Unreal Engine 5 with a heavy focus on
13:37
cinematic PVE, time manipulation
13:40
mechanics, and a seamless open world
13:42
designed for both PC and console. I
13:45
played the closed beta and while
13:46
performance and polish were clearly not
13:48
where they needed to be, I did come away
13:50
thinking this game has real potential.
13:52
Combat and movement feel very similar to
13:54
New World, which could actually work in
13:55
its favor now that New World's
13:57
development has effectively ended. The
13:59
story and time stop mechanics stood out
14:01
as strong ideas, even if the execution
14:03
still needs a little bit of work.
14:05
Following beta feedback, the game has
14:07
been delayed to late 2026, giving the
14:09
team time to properly refine
14:11
performance, the combat feel, and the
14:13
systems. And if they use that time,
14:15
well, Chrono Odyssey could still land as
14:18
a strong console friendly MMO RPG.
14:21
Profane is a true sandbox MMO RPG that's
14:25
been in development for a very long
14:26
time, but after recent play tests in
14:29
late 2025, it finally feels like it's
14:32
getting closer to something real. The
14:34
game is completely playerdriven with no
14:35
classes or levels, full loot, open PvP,
14:39
territory control, and a world where
14:41
cities, villages, and even resources
14:44
shift or disappear based on player
14:46
actions. Combat styles are defined by
14:48
what you practice. Skills are discovered
14:51
organically through progression, and
14:53
risk versus reward is at the core of
14:55
everything you do. Profane has always
14:58
been a slowburn project, but with more
15:00
frequent testing, expanded systems, and
15:03
a much larger dev team behind it now,
15:05
this could finally be at the point where
15:06
it starts to move towards a proper
15:08
release window in 2026. Archage
15:11
Chronicles is a full MMO RPG developed
15:14
by Excel Games and set around 50 years
15:17
after the original Archage, built on
15:19
Unreal Engine 5 for PC and consoles.
15:22
While it keeps core MMO pillars like
15:24
exploration, life skills, housing,
15:26
crafting, and shared world progression,
15:28
it shifts away from tab target combat,
15:30
and large scale Zerg PvP in favor of
15:33
more fluid action-based combat and
15:36
smaller, more cooperative encounters.
15:38
The focus is on discovery, narrative,
15:40
and player freedom in the rediscovered
15:42
land of Aurora rather than constant mass
15:45
PVP conflict. From what's been shown, it
15:47
looks like a modern action-driven
15:49
reinterpretation of the Archage formula
15:51
with current expectations pointing
15:53
towards a 2026 release window. Loftier
15:56
is a cozy solar punk MMO scheduled for
15:59
2026, blending classic MMO ideas with
16:02
life sim games like Stardw Valley and
16:04
Animal Crossing. It's a persistent
16:06
online world focused on cooperation
16:08
rather than competition where players
16:10
build floating islands, form
16:12
neighborhoods, and contribute to shared
16:14
community projects. progression revolves
16:16
around farming, crafting, decoration,
16:19
exploration, and light group content
16:21
like puzzles and environmental
16:22
challenges. Loftia openly describes
16:24
itself as a smallcale MMO prioritizing
16:27
social play, creativity, and
16:29
sustainability over combat heavy
16:32
systems. If you're looking for a
16:33
relaxed, communitydriven MMO that leans
16:36
more into wholesome than hardcore,
16:38
Loftier is aiming squarely at that
16:40
space. Haven Hold is an action sandbox
16:43
MMO RPG inspired by ancient Far Eastern
16:46
mythology built around skill-based
16:48
combat, faction warfare, and
16:50
playerdriven progression. It features
16:52
real-time action combat with parries,
16:54
directional attacks, and large scale
16:56
PvP, including 20 versus 20 siege
16:59
battles between rival mountain sects.
17:02
Development has been active on Steam
17:03
with ongoing regional testing in Asia,
17:06
though English localization and Western
17:08
servers are still catching up. One thing
17:10
worth noting is the monetization. Steam
17:13
already lists a deluxe edition which
17:14
includes membership time suggesting a
17:17
buytoplay model with a subscription
17:19
style system layered on top. It looks
17:21
ambitious. Whether it lands well in 2026
17:23
will likely depend on how fair that
17:25
monetization feels outside its core
17:27
Asian audience. Dractos is a pixel art
17:30
fantasy MMO RPG that focuses heavily on
17:33
fast-paced dungeon runs, boss fights,
17:35
and skill-driven combat. I played the
17:37
beta in late 2025, and as somebody who
17:40
loves pixel art games, it immediately
17:42
hit that nostalgic arcade MMO feel with
17:44
each hero playing more like a distinct
17:46
character than a traditional class.
17:48
Early testing did have some issues with
17:51
tile-based movement, especially in
17:53
dungeons. But the developers have
17:54
already reworked this based on feedback.
17:57
With strong co-op PvE, competitive PvP,
18:00
and regular hero updates planned,
18:02
Draentos is shaping up to be a more
18:04
contained replayable MMO experience
18:07
heading into 2026. Eternal Tombs is a
18:10
PVE focused MMO RPG built around
18:13
dungeons, raids, and structured group
18:16
content with a strong emphasis on
18:18
cooperation and meaningful progression.
18:21
I played this during a test back in
18:23
2024, and while it was a bit rough
18:24
around the edges at times, the core
18:26
ideas were really clear, especially the
18:29
importance of group roles, and tanking
18:32
in PvE. What really set Eternal Tombs
18:34
apart is its tomb master system, where
18:37
live staff members actively trigger
18:39
world events, unlock secret areas, and
18:42
shape what's happening on each server in
18:44
real time. It was originally planned for
18:46
2025, but after multiple tests, it's now
18:49
looking more likely for 2026. And
18:52
honestly, I'm happy to wait because if
18:54
they deliver on that dynamic PVE vision
18:57
that they have, this could be something
18:59
genuinely special. Bellator is a openw
19:03
world medieval MMO RPG centered around
19:06
noble houses, political conflict, and
19:09
largecale warfare. Set in a 15th century
19:12
inspired world, the game quietly
19:14
disappeared for a long time, then
19:17
unexpectedly resurfaced in 2025 with a
19:20
closed beta in Asia before going quiet
19:22
again, which naturally raises some
19:24
questions. Visually, it looks far more
19:27
impressive than its original reveal with
19:29
action focused combat, classless weapon
19:31
swapping, and a mastery based
19:33
progression system instead of
19:34
traditional levels. At this point, it's
19:36
hard to know exactly where it will land,
19:38
especially with concerns around
19:40
localization and potential monetization,
19:42
but if it avoids heavy pay to win, it
19:45
could end up being an interesting
19:46
politically driven MMO RPG. Project Q is
19:50
an upcoming cross-platform MMO RPG from
19:52
Lionhe Heart Studios, the team behind
19:55
Odin Valhalla Rising. It's being
19:57
published globally by Cacao Games for PC
20:00
and mobile. It's described as a
20:02
large-scale 3D seamless openw world MMO
20:05
inspired by Norse mythology with a
20:07
camera perspective something like Lost
20:09
Ark and Diablo and a fully persistent
20:12
world designed for crossplay between
20:14
devices. The game aims to deliver
20:16
cinematic visuals using Unreal Engine 5
20:19
and is targeting a release window around
20:21
2026 after its first reveal at GStar in
20:25
late 2024. While official gameplay
20:27
details are still sparse in English,
20:29
this looks like a serious AAA fantasy
20:32
MMO effort. Though there are already
20:34
community concerns around monetization
20:36
and balance given the developers mobile
20:38
heritage. Persist Online is a hardcore
20:41
zombie MMO from the developers behind
20:43
Tibia, which immediately gives it more
20:45
credibility than most survival MMOs.
20:48
It's set in a fully open world where
20:50
every building can be entered, loot is
20:52
always at risk, and PvP is a constant
20:55
threat on your way back to safety. There
20:57
are no classes, just skill trees that
20:59
let you shape your character through
21:01
crafting, combat, and utility choices.
21:04
It's not really my type of genre, but
21:06
considering this is Cypo's first major
21:08
MMO outside of Tibia in nearly three
21:10
decades, it's one of the more
21:11
interesting experiments on the list,
21:13
especially for players who enjoy old
21:15
school risk, fullloop tension, and
21:17
unforgiving progression. Darkcraft is a
21:20
newlyannounced Soulslike MMO RPG set in
21:24
a grim dark fantasy world blending
21:26
stamina based combat with openw world
21:28
multiplayer systems. Every encounter is
21:31
built around timing, positioning, and
21:33
risk with real consequences on death,
21:36
including partial loot loss. What sets
21:38
this apart is its game masterdriven
21:40
world where live developers can trigger
21:42
events, control enemies, appear as
21:45
bosses, or introduce one-off quests that
21:48
never repeat. You can explore solo or
21:50
with friends, hunt bosses, join guilds,
21:53
or clash with other players in high
21:55
tension PvPVE encounters. It will be
21:58
free to play, unapologetically
22:01
punishing, and clearly aimed at players
22:03
who want MMO scale with soulslike
22:06
pressure. Elegant
22:09
fantasy MMO RPG being developed
22:11
primarily by a solo indie developer, and
22:14
it wears that old school influence
22:15
proudly. It's built around a seamless
22:18
open world, stat-driven character
22:20
progression, meaningful gear, and
22:22
traditional group content like dungeons
22:24
and raids. very much in the spirit of
22:26
early World of Warcraft. The focus here
22:28
isn't flashy systems or modern MMO
22:30
shortcuts, but slow earned progression,
22:34
exploration, and communitydriven
22:35
gameplay. Elegant is subscription-based
22:38
with no cash shop or pay to- win
22:40
elements, and everything, including
22:42
cosmetics, is earned in game. It's still
22:45
early in development with no release
22:47
window yet, but projects like this don't
22:49
need massive scale to succeed. If it
22:51
simply works and builds a small
22:53
dedicated player base, Elegon could
22:55
quietly become a cozy long-term MMO
22:57
worth sticking with. Asteria: Fate of
22:59
the Fallen is an anime styled VR MMO RPG
23:03
inspired by the idea of sword art
23:06
online, but built as its own original IP
23:09
rather than a direct adaptation. The
23:11
goal here is immersion first, player
23:14
housing, social hubs, crafting, and
23:16
action combat where your realworld skill
23:19
matters alongside character progression.
23:22
It's very much a passion project
23:24
developed by a small but transparent
23:25
team and recently hit a major milestone
23:28
with space-time DB integration, the same
23:31
MMO back-end tech being used by
23:33
Bitcraft. Solid MMOs are incredibly
23:35
rare, and this feels like a genuine
23:37
attempt rather than a tech demo. It's
23:40
still early and high risk, but with
23:42
testing phases coming up, Asteria is one
23:44
of the more interesting VR MMO projects
23:46
to keep an eye on heading into 2026.
23:50
RXA is a smallcale sci-fi meets fantasy
23:53
MMO RPG that mixes classic MMO structure
23:56
with a more experimental ability system.
23:59
Players explore the alien planet of RXA
24:02
after a failed human connalization,
24:04
operating from a central carrier hub
24:06
while tackling storydriven PVE content
24:08
and five-player dungeons. Its standout
24:11
feature is the nanobot ability system,
24:13
which replaces traditional mana and
24:15
color-based resources generated through
24:17
class choice and weapon stats,
24:19
encouraging more deliberate ability
24:21
planning. Combat is tabt target focused
24:23
with an emphasis on weapons, gadgets,
24:26
turrets, drones, and air strikes rather
24:28
than traditional armor. Information on
24:31
RXA is currently very limited, making it
24:33
firmly one to watch rather than rely on.
24:35
But as a sci-fi MMO RPG, it at least
24:37
brings something different to an
24:38
otherwise fantasy heavy 2026 lineup.
24:41
Horizon Steel Frontiers is a mobile
24:43
first cross-platform MMO RPG developed
24:46
by NCOFT in collaboration with Guerilla
24:49
Games. Set in the Horizon universe, you
24:52
play as a fully customizable machine
24:54
hunter in the Deadlands, working with
24:56
and sometimes against thousands of other
24:58
players to take down massive mechanical
25:00
creatures, compete for resources, and
25:03
tackle raid style PVE encounters. Combat
25:05
builds on Horizon's signature weak point
25:08
targeting and trap-based hunting, but
25:10
adapts it for MMO scale battles with
25:12
mounts, climber mechanics, and large
25:15
group fights that feel closer to Monster
25:17
Hunter than a traditional fantasy MMO.
25:19
The game is being built specifically for
25:21
mobile with PC support. And while
25:24
there's no confirmed release date, the
25:25
scope, partnerships, and public gameplay
25:27
footage suggest it has a genuine outside
25:30
chance of landing sometime in 2026.
25:33
Perfect New World was an action MMO RPG
25:36
spin-off of the Perfect World IP built
25:39
around fast-paced combat, seamless
25:41
exploration, and class-driven PvE and
25:43
PvP. At one point, the game looked
25:46
genuinely promising with frequent
25:48
trailers, developer videos, and a clear
25:50
push towards a modern action MMO
25:52
experience. However, there have been no
25:54
official updates since late 2023. The
25:58
studio behind it has reportedly
25:59
undergone layoffs and ownership changes,
26:02
and all official channels have gone
26:03
silent. While nothing has been formally
26:06
announced, based on the available
26:07
evidence, Perfect New World appears to
26:10
have been quietly scrapped and is
26:12
extremely unlikely to release, making it
26:14
another example of a high-profile MMO
26:17
RPG project that might have simply faded
26:19
away. Into the Echo was an ambitious MMO
26:23
RPG project built around time travel,
26:26
player identity, and a shared sci-fi
26:29
fantasy world called Rava. On paper, it
26:32
aimed to move away from traditional
26:33
leveling, focusing instead on
26:35
reputation, crafting, exploration, and
26:38
communitydriven progression across
26:40
multiple eras of history. However, the
26:42
reality is that the game hasn't seen any
26:45
meaningful updates since 2023. The
26:48
studio website is currently
26:49
inaccessible, official socials are
26:52
inactive, and the Discord is largely
26:54
abandoned at this point. Into the Echo
26:57
appears effectively dead. And while the
26:59
original vision was interesting, it's
27:01
very unlikely this project makes it to a
27:04
2026 release. Other MMO RPGs not
27:07
mentioned include Project Ragnarok by
27:09
Netis, Chronicles of Ayaria, which is
27:12
apparently still being worked on,
27:14
Project Triple L, Riot MMO, the rumored
27:17
EverQuest 3 and Guild Wars 3, AON and
27:20
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, the Rocktock
27:22
MMO by Nintendo, and the Genesis
27:25
Hoyverse MMO. All of which I don't
27:27
expect to see much of in 2026. So,
27:30
that's the full landscape as we head
27:31
into 2026. From games that are basically
27:34
ready to launch to ambitious projects
27:36
that could still surprise us and a few
27:39
that honestly feel like cautionary
27:40
tales. MMO RPG development is brutal.
27:44
Timelines constantly slip and half of
27:46
these games will look very different by
27:48
the time they actually release.
27:50
Personally, I'm most excited to see how
27:52
VR MMO RPGs evolve this year. But,
27:54
Eternal Tombs and Epitome are both very
27:56
high on my radar. And after watching the
27:58
recent Scars of Honor live stream,
28:00
that's another one that I'm quietly
28:02
rooting for. Let me know in the comments
28:03
below which MMO RPGs you're most excited
28:06
for and which one you think will be DOA.
28:08
And if I've missed any games you think
28:10
that deserve to be on this list,
28:11
especially some of the smaller or some
28:12
of the indie projects, drop them in the
28:14
comments below. I do read every comment
28:16
and I will keep my tracking list
28:18
updated. Here's to hoping 2026 is
28:21
finally the year MMO RPGs start to rise
28:24
and deliver again.
28:28
Down down down down down down down.
