Yeah, so a lot of similar names on there, but a lot of very different names

So, well, first of all, Peter, I'll ask you, who do you think is the most realistic target for Ottawa at number seven

I mean, personally, I think we could even add Lofshunov to that list of Demadov and Celebrity

because I feel like Chicago is one team that would probably look at either Demadov or Lashunov

it's going to come down to one of those two, mainly because of the right hand defense factor

I mean, you already have Kevin Kurchinski in the system. Are you going to go and give Bidar that dynamic winger, or do you want to shore up your

defense a little bit? And I think maybe Luf Shunov might be that, although I wouldn't have him in my top three

but it does make sense if you're Chicago. But in terms of like overall fit for the Sends, I mean, I took him in my mock draft, and I

believe Jacob U took him in yours for the writer's mock as well

And that was Zane Perak. I mean, when you go through Bissend's, you know, depth chart defensively, it isn't as strong

I mean, they got they got quantity, but they really don't have quality in terms of like right hand shots

I mean, you have a, uh, uh, Jibril Toure, who is a right hand shot, but don't know necessarily

what his upside is. Maybe you could just be a third pairing, uh, type of player

Lastly, Thompson really hasn't gained any traction whatsoever in the NHO. And even at the H.L

level really hasn't taken massive steps. So who's going to be the next guy that you need on the right side to have that right hand shot

And that to me is 100% Zane Perak, given his offensive ability, the puck movement

the quick transitional play, the ability to engage in the offensive zone and attack to get into the high danger area and Alicia's wrist shot

I think to me that's an ideal type of puck mover or player that's lacking

in the send system. I know that you would like to have a little bit more of a defensive presence

And Perak has shown that, but it's very inconsistent. And he has been overaggressive, awareness lacks a little bit

But to me, if you're going for like a high octane puck moving defense, and like other teams are going right now

correct is definitely going to be at the top of my list if I were choosing for Ottawa. Yeah, it's tough

You mentioned a couple of the right-handed defensive prospects. And really, that's the end of the list

I mean, you throw in Hoyt Stanley. And other than that, I don't think, or Max Hans Gannett, he's right-handed

He's the only prospect, I think, that has real upside. Dayton, I know you just did a little look into Hoyt Stanley not too long ago and have some thoughts

If I'm not mistaken, it might have been somebody else, have some thoughts. But it's, I mean, and even in the NHL, like he got Travis Hammondick, Jacob Bernard

and Dracher and Ardensook, that that right-handed depth from top to bottom is miserable

I think that it's going to be a mistake for Ottawa to select anybody that is not a right-handed defenseman in this draft, especially with such a defense-heavy draft

Dayton, what are your thoughts on that? So I do agree that the senators have a massive weakness on the right side

Like, that list is, you can't really beat around the bush. It's a pitiful list

Like, you got Zub as a defensive specialist, but beyond that, like, what is there

there's a lot of maybes and a lot of, you know, put your head in your hands and weep silently

However, when it comes to the seventh overall pick, I'm split on whether they should take a forward or a defenseman

because if they take a defenseman, that is three years away from making the NHL

and at least making an impact in the NHL. There's no way that Zane Perak is making an impact as a 19-year-old

I'd put money on that. He's going to be an incredible NHL player

I'd also put money on that. But he just won't come in and fix the senator's problem

So if the senators are looking to compete right of ways and they have the team to do it

they just need to tweak several little areas. They can't rely on a right-handed defenseman

in this year's draft to fix that. That's why I put Caden Lindstrom as my top guy

I thought that with the uncertain situation of Josh Norris's injury, like he just can't stay healthy

And a team to make a competitive push for the playoffs need two very strong centers

And if Lindstrom falls to seventh, and there are some mocks that do have him dropping

definitely not out of the top 10, but around there, I think he would be a really good fit because he's got a bit of that snarl

He's a big hitter, but he's also great with the puck. He's great in transition

There have been some injury concerns in junior with his wrist. That's, I don't think, as scary as a shoulder injury

Shoulder injury really takes you out. Wrist, I think that's an easier fix. So that was my reasoning behind placing Lindstrom number one

I think a center is an easier jump. He could fit in the NHL probably next year

More likely two years, but. Yeah, I find it really interesting because looking at your list

I mean, and this is outside of Celebrini and, well, Celebrity and Lindstrom, I guess

there's no forwards that are like clear cut ahead of everybody else

And so it's a very defense-heavy draft. This is a great year to kind of pick a defenseman

and like you look at the I don remember exactly the year 2021 or 2022 and there were like seven defensemen taken in the top 10 and they all look fantastic right now it going to be another year like that but five of your top eight were forwards and I found that really interesting just because most it mostly defensemen that are projected to go in that range and like you have Liam green tree on there I think that that a really underrated pick You kind of alluded to that as well in our write piece

But yeah, I think that there's a really good chance that Ottawa gets a really good forward as well

I didn't have Berkeley Caton on my list. And I think I regret that after kind of watching him a little bit more on my top eight

I would probably have him over Eiserman and a Ginla and have him in my number seven

but even then, like I could, I would be very happy to see Ottawa select Berkeley Caton

What do you think about him, Peter? Oh, I mean, I don't know if you've, I don't know if you've seen Cam Robinson from elite prospects

you know, tweet about do not sleep on him. And if you do, it's going to be a very, very costly mistake because he has been absolutely

dynamic from the beginning of the year to the end. He's got everything that you want in a centerman

You know, he's, you got this, you got the speed, you got the skill. you got the awareness, you got the work ethic

And the only thing that's holding them back is the size factor

But as we've seen, the size factor really doesn't matter at this point because he's already

playing and he's got a lot of pro qualities in him that would make him a highly touted prospect

And, you know, Dayton alluded to the injury issues of Josh Norris, not necessarily the uncertainty

of Shane Pinto, but the ability to move up into the. lineup and get a little bit more out of him instead of just being like a middle six or second

line third line center. Berkeley, Berkeley Katten is definitely going to give you that top line potential, but if Norse is still

healthy and he's going to be a key factor, then he's definitely going to be your second line center for years to come

And maybe at some point, if you move on from Josh Norris, then Katten is going to assume that role

You know, when you basically watch him at the Link of Greski Cup, he basically took control

of that tournament. And he scored in very key moments and he was a very big clutch factor

for Canada. This year was Spokane. He's been very, very clutch. He's been very productive

And ideally, I would have him in my top five. But again, it seems you're going to overlook him

because of the size factor. I think that's just a bit of a mistake. But even though he's like 510, 511

there's still room for him to grow and add more strength. It's not like he's 5, 5, 7, 5, 8

where maybe there's a little bit more uncertain, but then again, not to compare him to Logan Stankovam

but a lot of people had him as a first rounder, and he dropped it in mid-second, and look how well that turned out for the Dallas Stars

You don't want that to overshadow everything. If he can play, if he's got the skill

if he's already got the smarts at a high-end level, you've got to take them. And if he's available for the Sends

that should be the case if they choose to go in that direction and get a centerman or forward

Yeah, and I just brought up one of Kahn Robinson's tweets about Berkeley Caton

And so every CHL draft eligible skater to produce 50 plus goals and 115 plus points in the 21st

century, century, sorry. Sydney Crosby, Patrick Kane, Connor Bred, Berkeley Caton. That is a very short list

And then he ends up by saying fade catten at your own peril. So that is, yeah, certainly being sold on Caton quite a bit

And this was written a few weeks ago now. And I've had more time to kind of dive in

and watch some players, but he would absolutely be on my list now. Yeah, I, Dayton, did you have anything that you wanted to add about Katten before we move on

He's so fun to watch. Like, you alluded to watching him so far and, like, regretting putting him on your list

The clips that show up and then I've dived into some like shift by shift stuff, he is just like

silky smooth when he moves. Like, I think the thing that would make him such a

good center despite his size is he's able to avoid contact. Like he almost just sort of knows where all the gaps are and keeps the puck on a stick

and then also can make brilliant plays. Like his intelligence and his skating are top line talents

Like I would put him, maybe this is a bit of an overstatement

but I'd put him kind of in the same range as Demadov. like both of those players are are game changers and they rely a lot on their skating and their

intelligence to make and to not get hit and avoid getting into problems just by being

smarter and faster than their opponents. That's going to be less easy to do in the NHL but if they have those skills already

that's going to pay off in a major way when they get a little bit smarter

a little bit stronger, a little older. So, yeah, like, he's going to be the Sears Zach Benson

I can almost guarantee it. Someone's going to, there's going to be a bunch of teams who pass on him

And I bet you the senators will too, because the senators like big, or at least their old management liked big

and there are a lot of the old draft guys are still there. I think he'd be a fantastic fit for this team

He'd mix so well with Tim Stutzler. I was just going to add that in

think that he would fit very creative. So if Katon is drafted by the senators, would you ever play them on the same line

No, not even close. Yeah. The next best option for Stutzel to play with is Drake Batherson, who is good

He's good. Yeah. But no. So before we kind of go revert back to the defense

but I just want to go through a couple of the other forwards on your list. I found it interesting that you have Againla over Hellenius on your list

Personally, I like Hellenis a little bit more, but Againla has shot up the draft rankings this year

It's been really fun to watch just kind of everybody open their eyes and say, this guy's not like a mid to late first round pick

This guy's top 10 because at the beginning of the year, he was like around 20th, 21st

somewhere around there. And now that we're just a month away from the draft, he's top seven, top five

like people are seriously having that conversation. Dayton, I just wanted to get your thoughts on kind of having a genit number five on your list

Yeah, so I would have put him higher, but I was born in Alberta

And there is a very large part of me that would just love to see him in a flames uniform

Oh, yeah. And with him picking, or with that team picking ninth, like I think it's very much within the realm of possibility that he falls to them

and I feel like it should. The senators, however, could ruin that

And I'd still be okay with that because he's so good. He is a fantastic goal score

Like, he's not his dad. His dad was a power forward who could score goals and then hit you into the boards

and fight you and also pick you back up and pat you on the back because he was a gentleman, right

Just a fantastic Hall of Fame type of guy. That was a Don Cherry description right there

Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean, a lot of Canadians have that in the back of their mind, right

But Tej is much more like pure offense. He will just outscore you because he's got a great shot, great playmaking abilities

Yeah, really, really good with the puck. He also a very hard worker which he would have learned from his dad He is able to you know just kind of outwork the opponents to get the puck and then he can score

He doesn't have the same all-around presence, which is why I think maybe you'd prefer Hellenius

He's more of an all-around center. But the senators are lacking right wings

They do not have nearly enough to rely on if one guy goes down

Then they're drawing on, whoof, not a lot. The right wing aspect of their roster is limited

So I prioritized getting one of those guys, and I think the best one available is

is Demadov a right wing? I think he's a lefty. He's a right wing

Okay, so the second best right wing, I would argue, is, again, Lund. Just he's got everything that you know

need and senators need goals. They couldn't score last year, at least not enough

So why not prioritize somebody who can really fill the puck or fill the net with pucks

Yeah, I think that there's definitely an argument for that. He's just, he's so creative offensively and can kind of make anything happen out of nothing

He doesn't have the speed that you might hope for a guy like him, but he just has everything

else that really helps offensively. He's just, he's so dynamic with the puck and like I said

he can just create nothing out of thin air. And he might have a future as an NHL center

I know some people earn as high on him as being a center moving forward, but whether he's a center or right wing

do you see him fitting, Peter? Oh, absolutely. And if I remember correctly, during the U-18s

he did play up the middle of the ice. And I think maybe he rotated in wing every now and then

But I mean, whether he plays center or he plays wing, he's just going to be absolutely dynamic on whichever team he goes to

including the senators. You know, we talked about, like Dayton was talking about the comparisons to his dad

and he is a totally different player. Like he has that dog in him

He has that ability to constantly attack. And when he has the puck on a stick

he wants to take control of a shift. I remember watching the, well, U-18s

but also the top prospects game, where I believe he was on that top line of Katten, Katten, Parasic, and him

I believe that was the top line. And as good as Katten and Parasic were, I, Gilad took control every single time he had the puck

And he stood out way above Katten. And at that time, Katten was ranked higher than him

So I think right now on par, or it's kind of even at this point out where Gillow could

possibly be taken higher than Katten, I think, obviously he's got a little bit

more of the size factor, but even his defensive game, I think he's just very, very underrated

because he does have that ability to, he does have the awareness to back check. He has the ability

to close gaps. And he may not be overly physical, but he does have the positioning to cut

defense, not necessarily defenders, but cut attackers off, separate the opponent from the pocket

regain possession, and then quickly transition the other way. He's got that mindset and he's got

that mentality already down to a T. And if he's able to, I mean, not be consistent

but if he's able to continue to do that from here on out next season, the season after that

he's going to have a very, very bright future. And, you know, this second half is a big reason why he's improved his draft stock to being a top

10, possibly even top five selection at that. Because there's, I've even seen Mocs where Montreal

the Canadians could possibly even take them. So we'll see how things play out

But yeah, I mean, if he is available and the senators do need a forward

I think he would probably be the next best option to take because of his overall skill set

Yeah, I think one really important factor that you both mentioned is that he's a very

different player from his father, Jerome McGinla. And I think that that's incredibly important because he is the furthest thing

from an Epo baby there is. Like when you look at when the Kachucks were drafted

that's all that was talked about is, oh, well, they're only drafted this high because they're physical

and their dad is Keith Kachuk. They play the same game as their father, Keith Kachuk

which it wasn't true. Like, they were absolutely worth where they were drafted

Matthew Kachuk should have gone higher. And yeah, like, that's just not the case for Tiji Ginnla

And he plays his own game. He doesn't play the same style that his father did

Therefore, he's not getting the same attention in the similar ways that he did. So I think that that's a really important thing to bring up because a lot of

people just say, oh, it's Jerome and Gittal's son. Of course he's going to be good. That's just not at all

the kind of conversation you can have around it. So we'll move on to some defensemen now

We kind of started with them and then moved our way into forwards. But Anton Sileyev

I don't know what to expect this draft with him. I've seen mock drafts with him at three

and I've seen some with him at 14. So, Pedro, I'll ask you first

where do you expect that Salaev goes, and do you think that he'd be a good pick for Ottawa

He's left-handed, so not necessarily a need for Ottawa, but when a 6-foot-7 defender that did very well in Russia comes available

do you take him if you're Ottawa? You definitely have to consider it

I mean, like you said, 6-7, it very screams the Dano Chara-esque

And we all know the early days of Zadano Char with all the Ottawa senators before he went to the Boston Bruins

But even then, you know, having a 6'4-7 mobile defender that can move as effortlessly, effortlessly as he does is very phenomenal

And to get those minutes in the KHL too, because players in his age are still in the junior level

They're still in the VHO. He's already, he was being relied on heavily in the KHL

That is a big feat right there. That is a big accomplishment for him. and that's why he got on a lot of radars because of that ability

I think the main question is what like he had that strong offensive production

Like he was about a point per game or just under a point per game in like eight or nine

games really, really cooled off after that. What's his offensive upside going to be

Is he going to be a defender that you can rely on offensively or is he just going to be

you know, middle of the pack but still very good defensively? So he's got a lot of things down packed

He's got that physical edge. He's got that size advantage. He's got that defensive game that screams, you know, kind of top pairing shut down

And he could contribute offensively. But if you're expecting him to get a little bit more offense out of him, I don't see how that could be top 10 potential maybe, given how he hasn't been consistent throughout the season

And again, it could just be attributing to the fact that he is 17. I mean, he is still growing

He's still learning the ins and outs of the games, but he's already got a lot of foundation for him to be an effective NHLer

So it depends on if they feel like they can move out a left-handed defenseman

and feel like he's the next best option. And then that makes someone available as another prospect because he's going to shoot up right behind

I mean, Jake Sanderson isn't a prospect anymore, but he is definitely going to become their number two defensive player within the system

be it, NHL or prospect. So he is definitely a name, but it's a very, again, like you said, he's very sporadic of where he's going to be, whether it's two, three, top five, ten, or just outside of that

Personally, I think he's just outside, but, you know, it wouldn't surprise me if there are going to be teams that are going to be knocking on the door when they go up and want to announce his name when they make the pick

Yeah, Dayton, you left him off your list entirely. do you just want to talk about that for a second

Sure It not that I don think he not a good fit for the senators I think having somebody like that and you know the char comparisons Peter mentioned are there I think they are more valid than they have been in the past He still not a char Let not you know cross our wires here But he definitely as close as we have been in like maybe the last decade

but because he is a big left shot defenseman, I don't think the senators need to spend a top 10 pick on that

I think Salehav is definitely worth a top 10 pick. I just don't think the senators need to do that

It's especially with him mainly playing a more defensive game, having a big shutdown guy, that would be good

But just thinking, like, who do you end up pairing them with? Because you want to put a defensive guy with an offensive guy

Does he end up taking over with Sanderson? Does he end up taking over with Shabbat

I mean, we're talking several years in the future as well, right? But wait a second

No, he doesn't because he's left shot, right? So he's replacing one of those

That doesn't seem quite right. So are you banking on the fact that Shabbat is on his way out when he starts to come on him

And that is the mentality of a rebuilding team. So when I was making my list, I think, like I said, he is worth a top 10 pick

I don't think the senators need to do that because they have plenty of high-end left-shot defensemen

And I think there's also better options in the forwards and some of the right shots

that will be available at that point. That's fair. And I have them on my list

and I do think that the uncertainty of the left side of the senator's defense

kind of opens up the conversation a little bit more about potentially needing somebody on the left side

especially because Shabbat has, I believe, three more years left, and Chickren only has one year left

Brantstrom is probably not coming back. So the future of that by the time he is ready to compete for a full-time

like top four spot. the future of the senator's blue line is up in the air. So that was my kind of process, and he could be coming in at the time that Shabbat's on his way out of Ottawa, potentially, just depending on how the future he goes

The last two names I wanted to talk about is Sam Dickinson and Carter Yikam Chuk

I think that they're both very different defensemen, but two defensemen Ottawa could look at as a good option at number seven

And if like, let's say, Zame Parek is gone and let's say

all these other guys on our lists are gone. I do think that Sam Dickinson and

Kareke, Mchuk, could be two very good options. What do you think, Peter? How much time do you have because I can talk on and on

about Sam Dickinson? And I know Dayton is tired of me talking about him as well

I'm not tired. Go on. I think he's one of the more pro-ready defensemen

in this NHL draft because he, He's got a lot of the defensive qualities and two-way game that defensemen in his age are still learning

But he's ironed down and has already got it down pat. The one question mark is that he can do a bit too much

He can't get a little bit overzealous with the puck. But when you look at his mobility, the ability to jump into the play, the shot that he has from outside

be it a slap shot or a very powerful wrist shot from the point. the breakout plays, the ability to defend a rush very, very well, coverage in one-on-one situations

And the way that he's reading and closing gaps, even when there plays along the borders and tie-ups, he's going towards and he's taking a man

He's taking his assignment and making sure that puck doesn't come to him. He's reading the plays very, very well at an NHL right now
