It's time for the Hockey Raiders Grind line. A weekly show covering everything Detroit
0:09
Red Wings brought to you by our own iconic top line of Wings
0:13
Writers, sit back and enjoy the grime. Hello, everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Grind
0:22
Line here at the hockey writers. I'm your host, Matthew the to and as always joined in by my linemates
0:27
Evan Sabor and Devin Little I guys were, uh, we did our grind this past
0:32
um, episode which just a few days ago, but we are getting together now just after the draft lottery and
0:39
uh, where no team moved, everyone was, stayed in the same spot and that means the Red Wings are gonna be picking 15th overall
0:46
uh, not their usual top 10, you know, area, but, uh, it's still a really good pick
0:51
So we're gonna talk about that. Uh, Evan, how's it going? Good
0:55
man. I mean, uh, these playoffs have been pretty good so far. There have been some great matchups on a scale
1:01
It's, uh, it's been a good playoff, having a good time watching it. How are you doing
1:05
Devin? Well, I'm doing good. Happy to be here. With you guys
1:08
Um, yeah, playoff hockey's been a lot of fun, would have been a lot more fun if
1:13
uh, the team we talk about on the show was partaking. But, oh, well
1:17
uh, we're used to that at this point. Right. Yeah. And I mean, I think they're not that far
1:22
O obviously they were tied for them. They almost did make it. Um
1:26
I think they, they could, depending on the off season, which we're gonna talk about at length
1:29
uh, throughout the off season. So, um, yeah, let's just get right into our show this week and start with our one good one bad
1:36
as we always do and I'll start with you, Devin. Uh, what do you got for one good one bad from this past week
1:43
My one good, I'm just gonna kind of, uh, tack on here
1:47
Um, has honestly just been the second round as a whole. Um
1:51
I think in prior years, the first round has been a lot better than the second round
1:54
The second round has been, uh, kind of a let down in, in recent years
1:58
I think that's kind of flipped this year. I think the first round was maybe a little boring outside of a s like one series
2:03
or two. Uh, this, this, uh, the second round, there's really only one series that's been disappointing
2:09
It's that Carolina New York Series, uh, because Carolina is just not putting up a fight now
2:14
They are putting up a fight tonight but, uh, every other series seems to have like
2:19
you know, a real sense of either team could win and it seems like we kind of know who's going to win this series already
2:24
But, yeah, a lot of fun watching the second round, uh, this year
2:28
uh, than my one bad. Um, I'm gonna take the opportunity to
2:33
uh, p on, uh, in Toronto. Uh, OB obviously there's a lot going on over there in Leaf Land
2:40
they're losing their minds, but from what I understand, they love when things are bad in Toronto
2:45
they're weird over there. Um So I'm sure our Maple Leafs writers are having uh are getting real good numbers over at the website
2:52
Um uh But no, just honestly, I just running it back with a lot of the same people
3:00
They obviously fired Sheldon Keefe. There's some talk about Mitch Merner. Um But they
3:03
you know, Shanahan, uh Shanahan, we know, obviously, we, we know all about Brendan Shanahan here if we're
3:08
if we're uh if you follow the Red Wings, but um he's standing on as president of hockey operations
3:13
He's been in that role now for all coming up on a decade
3:17
It's like eight years or so. So. Um and really nothing to show for it
3:22
right? Um It's kind of a constant cycle of having a really good team on paper and then can't get out of the first round
3:28
So, um I don't know if I, if I was a maple leafs person
3:32
I'd be very confused by how much they seem to be willing to just stay put and just run it back year after year
3:40
Um, I guess maybe the, the good news there as far as we're concerned is that
3:45
that means the, my police are gonna keep spinning their wheels as the Red Wings are ascending
3:50
So, uh, hey, that, that sounds pretty good if you're uh any team in the Atlantic division
3:55
right? For sure. And that's, that's the thing. I mean, it's, it's
4:00
it's interesting what they're doing. I don't know, like everyone was thinking maybe the front office was gonna get a makeover
4:06
They already did that. Really not last season. They got rid of their GM uh DBA left and
4:11
or got fired and then hired for living. I, how much more can you do
4:16
Except for getting rid of Shanahan, which obviously didn't happen and the coach was the next to go
4:22
So, I, I don't know. And he just signed that extension. Right. And that was kind of weird when he's gone and they just won
4:29
an extension was gonna kick in this next season and he's gone before it even starts
4:33
It's kind of a interesting turn of events, but I gotta get me one of those deals
4:38
Yeah, we'll see where he lands. I don't know. I think Keith probably will get another job somewhere
4:44
It's not like he didn't have success. With the team. Uh, he'll probably end up being somewhere because there are a lot of job openings
4:50
around the league, lots of turnover in the coaching world. So, right
4:55
Evan, uh, over to you, what do you got for a, a good and a bad, well
4:59
the bad today is, uh, I'm not sure if anyone saw, but Alex Lyon caught his hand in the World Championships today against Germany
5:08
which USA still won. So that was my bad. It's, you know
5:13
never a good thing. But, uh, Trey Augustine jumped in there and
5:17
uh, did pretty well. So Red Wings goalies are, uh, holding down the fort there
5:23
hopefully, uh, Lions, ok. You know, those injuries can get scary at times
5:28
But, uh, yeah, you know, both played well and, uh, yeah, that's all
5:32
that's all I got, man. I'm, I'm ready to get to the prospect talk. I'm all excited. Yeah
5:36
that, yeah, we love it. We love it here and that's, I say the draft is coming up
5:40
So I, and the Red Wings are locked in at that 15th spot
5:44
as we mentioned at the beginning of the show. I, well, we'll go with you Evan on this
5:49
I, you know, they are locked in the 15th overall. It's like I say, it's not as high as it usually is for the Red
5:56
Wings in those past few seasons, but it's still a really good pick. How do you feel about that
6:01
Uh, picking outside of the top 10 for the first time since 2016
6:05
which is actually quite a long time ago when we've been, you know, rings have been picking so high and getting some really good prospects
6:12
in the same, uh, you know, in that, that, uh, time. Yeah
6:17
No, I, I'm, I'm actually, this, this draft is kind of like playing into the Red Wings hands because it's actually a
6:21
a very deep defensive draft and, and, you know, I, we think that the Red Wings with their deep defensive prospect core are probably gonna
6:28
go, you know, hopefully a, a big rugged forward. So there's a lot of guys there
6:33
I like at 15. Um Beckett Sene, that's, that's probably my number one choice
6:39
but I also love Berkey Cat, Berkeley cat and if he happens to drop
6:44
which I don't know if he will. Um Yeah, I, I went down the prospect pool last night
6:48
I couldn't sleep, so I jumped on youtube these damn highlights. Oh
6:53
who's next? Uh I mean, there's, there's go, they're, they're gonna get a good player
6:57
I, I believe at 15, a guy that probably, uh, you know
7:01
might, uh it might take maybe just a year or two to even make it to the NHL Michael Branson
7:08
And I, uh comes to mind too, player that I like. But
7:12
um, I think if I had my order for picks right now it's sey um cat and although he won't drop there and
7:21
uh, I like Liam Greentree a lot from Windsor and I think the Wings are very familiar with his game living there so close
7:27
Um, another big rugged forward. So, yeah, the drafts coming up soon
7:31
man, I, I think I'm gonna go to the draft for, uh my other job that I do and
7:36
uh I'm really excited about this one. I think there's gonna get some good picks here
7:40
It good guys here, like I say a lot, there is a lot to go at for the 15th overall pick
7:46
Like you say, the defenseman are, there's so many in this draft and that's been touted for the last couple seasons
7:52
I if, if you are in need of defenseman, this is the draft you want targeted and not get rid of that first round pick
8:00
So, um, yeah, it's gonna be interesting. We'll talk more about the targets in a bit
8:04
Uh Devin. Now, what do you think about this, uh, being 15th overall rather than the familiar
8:10
uh, top 10? Oh, it's a familiar, um, or it's, it's a
8:17
I guess we'll start here. It's, it's a sign of progress, right? Um If you're
8:21
if you've been picking the top 10 for a long time, like the red ones, have you hope to eventually find yourself outside of that
8:27
range? And the Reddings finally do, um, not quite the lowest pick they could have all remaining out
8:34
And this, that's good. The Saint Louis Blues have the 16th pick. So they're the, they're the best non playoff team
8:40
Um, so the Red Wings, uh, have a, still have a top 15 pick that's still really good
8:44
And like has been said, you can kind of expect there's, they're gonna get a really good prospect there
8:49
um, because it does seem like, uh, this is just echoing what Evans said
8:54
it does seem like it's kind of setting up to where there's gonna be a run on defenseman uh in the early part of the
8:58
draft and that's gonna set Detroit up to take a, uh take one of the better forwards in the draft
9:04
Um And there's a lot of names that could be available too. It's a wide range too
9:08
just depending on how things play out. Um And the other part of this too is that the rugs are familiar with this pick
9:13
um, twice in the last, what would that be? Uh, 10 years
9:18
Um They've picked 15th overall, uh 2014, they picked a guy named Dylan Larkin and that worked out pretty well
9:25
And then, uh three years ago in 2021 they traded up to acquire the 15th pick and they selected goaltender Sebastian Ka
9:33
Um And obviously, you know, it's been kind of an up and down thing with Ka
9:37
but right now it's an up and we're very excited about Costa. So, um in theory
9:42
the Red Wings have got their captain and their top center at 15th overall
9:46
15th overall and they got their goalie of the future at 15th overall
9:50
So if you need some sort of assurance that they're gonna get a good player at 15th overall
9:55
let those picks tell the tale. Um There will be talent available there
9:59
Um You don't need to pick in the top 10 to get a difference maker, especially in a draft
10:05
Like, I mean, I don't know how deep beyond the second round it is this year than compared to last
10:11
uh last year. But there is a lot of defenseman and not just in the first round
10:15
but yeah, going into the second as well. So lots of quality
10:19
lots of quantity as too. So we're, we're gonna, we're gonna find out
10:23
I think there's, they're gonna get a really good guy there too. Like I said, we'll talk to specifics in a couple minutes here
10:30
All right, let's go off the rush and I, we're gonna do our little quiz here and I'm gonna quiz you guys on a few
10:36
stats for the Red Wings. Now the season is over and I picked a few that aren't easy
10:42
Uh They're not easy stats that you could just kind of run off. Who's the top scorer
10:46
you know, those ones. But I, so let's see how you guys do. So I'll start with you Evan on this one who had the
10:52
most giveaways on the red list. Oh, yeah, we all know who I'm gonna say
11:00
um, not when you expect, oh, man, boards or defense or just total for the team
11:07
It's everyone. Yeah, for the whole team. Ok. Wow. I'm gonna
11:16
say to bring it, it's not to bring it. It is a forward
11:20
uh, Devin, who, who do you got wasn't a bad guess for sure
11:26
Um, I am gonna say I'm gonna say Patrick Kane, he passes the park a lot
11:31
No, it's not Kane either. It's Dylan Larkin. Oh wow. 4444 giveaways
11:37
Petrie was just behind him with 40. Ok. That, that would have been my uh that's the first thing that runs in my head as
11:43
soon as I hear the giveaway. So he was there. That's what I assumed
11:50
But I looked up the stat, I'm like it's probably Petrie. No, it was a large thing that wasn't good about him
11:56
All right. Next one. I'll, I'll keep it with you, Devin. Um we'll go the other side
12:01
Most takeaways. Mm. Yeah. Um
12:10
Lucas Raymond, you're, you're close because Raymond was in the top five but that's not the leader
12:20
He who you got. Com No, it's not con either. So you had it to bring it as the giveaways
12:26
He's the takeaways. 49 Raymond and Larkin tied for 48. The cat
12:33
So there you go. You're close. Raymond needed one more to get to get into the
12:37
into the first spot and now this one's a fun one. I I wanted to see what this one was but Evan who had the
12:44
most wide shots wide. Why? Oh man, it's
12:55
gotta be a forward. It is a forward. Uh M I'm gonna go to brink it
13:03
You're right. Yeah. The brit 91 shots wide. He missed a lot of nets
13:10
man. I was, I was just gonna say, I, I remember, I remember thinking he needs to hit the net a lot
13:15
So there you go. So it is to bring it. All right
13:20
Devin most shots that hit the post? Oh Wow. Where are you getting these stats from
13:25
Where are you getting these stats from nhl.com Stats Mills? Ok. Ok
13:33
Uh Who had to post the most? Um I didn't even know they tracked that stat just saying
13:38
Yeah, that's my ass. I didn't know either. Uh David Perron. No
13:45
OK. He, what do you have to bring it again to bring it again
13:51
Yeah. Ok. 99 shots at the man, he could have had a lot more goals with his shots with JT and
14:00
I was, I was just gonna say it's not that Dort didn't shoot the puck if they didn't shoot the puck on target
14:08
which a shot hit the post, which is technically wide because he didn't know a shot on goal
14:14
All right. Final one for this round. I Evan who had the most hits the most hits
14:20
Yeah. Mm Cider
14:30
Yeah. Yeah. Cider 211. Oh you, I guess as well. All right
14:36
you guys did pretty well. I think, uh, first two kind of or close uh
14:40
with guys. So there you go. We'll see what the next, next round after
14:45
in the final round. We'll see what you guys, how you guys do that? My brains crash now
14:48
man, I'm not gonna make it to the next round. I've got a buffering screen going on right now
14:56
Ok. All right. Well, before we move on to the second half of the show, we got to remind everyone of our substack here at
15:01
the hockey writers that lots of great stuff over the over at the substack
15:05
We've got the red Wing stuff which features all of our articles in the past week and last
15:11
you know, comes up 23 times a week and also our premium tier which gives you exclusive articles
15:17
uh reports all to tons of fun stuff there. So take a look in the link below to find out more
15:23
All right, let's stay on the draft here and talk about, I know Evan, you talked about a bit about some targets that you want
15:29
the Red Wings to kind of look at. So I'll start with you Devin on this uh who would you like or who or what
15:35
I mean, you don't have to specifically say players but positions I should it be best player available and when they get to that point
15:43
or should they be looking at some needs. Um, I mean, obviously it's probably gonna be a defenseman because there's gonna be quite a few
15:50
there. But, uh, what do you think about this? I do think that the Red Wings are now kind of pivoting in the rebuild to
15:58
a point where, um, under the right circumstances, they can address team need versus best
16:05
best player available. Now, that being said, I do think that BP A is
16:10
should still be their guiding compass. Um Don't, you know, pass up on like a really good prospect just because you need a winger or
16:18
whatever. Um If they end up, if you know, if, if a really
16:22
really good defenseman is there, even though they don't need any more, take them because you can figure that out later
16:28
Um That being said, uh I liked, I liked Evan's call out a little bit earlier
16:33
I do think they could use a little bit of ruggedness on the wing on the wing specifically too
16:39
Um Some size would be really nice. Um I mean, really kind of everything that they've been getting on the blue line in terms of
16:48
size, skill, um compete level. I'd like to see that in a winger really
16:54
Um Now that being said, I don't think, um I'm, I'm dead set on that
16:59
but I do think that a winger would be my, my preference going into the draft if I'm Steve Aizenman
17:05
Um They've gone center the last two, the last two drafts in the first round with Casper and Danielson
17:10
They got a sending Plica last year um loads of more defense men
17:15
I, it just seems they haven't, they haven't drafted a winger in the first round since Lucas Raymond in uh 2020 that worked out pretty
17:22
well. But now you look in the prospect pool and there's like one or two wingers that you can kind of go all right
17:27
They, they, they'll, they'll be a player and then it really thins out after that. So
17:31
um they could really use some help on the wing, um, players that I have in mind
17:35
Um I won't go too in depth on this because I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to really get into this uh between now
17:41
and the draft. But um just a couple of guys that kind of stand out to me would be
17:45
um uh Liam Greentree is, is when a guy is a guy that stands out to me
17:49
I like him a lot actually. Um he might be my guy right now
17:53
Uh Michael Branstad Nygaard, I think fits a lot of what the Red Wings like to do
17:57
Um Just in general, I think he also fits kind of checks a few boxes
18:02
Um For me, uh cast heus is another one. I don't know if he's gonna be there
18:07
but if he is, I think he's kind of a, uh I think he'd be a slam dunk for me
18:11
I like his game a lot. Um, and then the last one
18:15
I'll throw out another one that I don't know if he's gonna be there, but if he is there
18:21
I'd at least like to see them consider Cole Eiserman. Not just because how fun it would be to hear Steve Aizenman call Cole Eiserman
18:28
his name. Um, but also because I think Eisenman checks a lot of my personal boxes of what I'd like to see the Red Wings
18:35
do in the first round. Um, he's a, he's a, uh, he's a bona fide goal scorer
18:39
He's kind of a boomer bus prospect, but I'd love to see the Red Wings kind of go for the home run swing
18:45
They haven't really done that in recent years. So I think if Eisenman's there
18:49
he really picks that box. Um Yeah, I mean, there's a lot more about there
18:55
there's a lot of other guys that, that they should consider. Um I'm sure Adam's about to name off a few more of them
19:01
Um, there's, there's a lot of talent that's, uh a lot of forward talent that should be available to them
19:06
Um, on their, um, when it's their turn to pick. Yeah, I mean
19:11
they could go for defenseman again. I mean, if there's one, like you say
19:15
I, you know, it drops and they're like, oh, we were, you should really go for him
19:18
I mean, even if you don't need him to per se, you could trade him or trade someone away i in the
19:27
in the future to address other needs. Right. There's always that possibility
19:32
But I do like, you know, I think it was Evan, you'd mentioned Berkeley Canton
19:36
Uh I don't think he'll drop to 15 if he does definitely take him
19:40
he could. I mean, because of his size, I mean, that's, that's the only real knock on the guy
19:46
I, and then you got like Cole Aizenman, I think from his performance at the U eighteens
19:50
I feel he's probably gonna be picked in towards that 10th spot
19:56
Maybe. I mean, I thought he was gonna drop, but he kind of boosted his stock again after his performance at the
20:02
at the U A. So, yeah, I, I don't know. There's lots of good guys though
20:06
Uh Evan, who you got to kind of add to that list. Well
20:10
it, it were up to me. It, it would be Beckett Sene. I, I really like this guy's play
20:15
I think he looks like what uh a lot of scouts and a lot of people in the NHL thought uh Kirby Doc would look
20:22
like if he could, Kirby Doc could stay healthy. Um This kid's a little wiry but his
20:26
his skill is his skills elite. Um I really like him as a player
20:31
Uh Again, Berkeley Cadden. Uh I don't know if he's gonna make it
20:37
I watched a lot of tape on him last night though. He, he's not a guy that's gonna go all out defensively for you
20:43
Um, so already, we've already had that issue on this team and you can't deny his skill
20:50
I just, I don't, II, I could see him going a lot earlier. Um Michael Branson Nygard
20:55
It's interesting. He's got, he's got a really funky skating motion. He, he kind of like
20:59
he hunches over and it, he, he's got a great shot. I, I think he's a good goal scorer but he's
21:04
I don't think he's gonna create a lot of his own plays. And um I
21:08
I just don't see that speed burst with him. That makes him, he, he looks like uh uh possibly a third line scoring depth winger
21:15
to me. But um he, he's, he does have a hell of a shot. I'll say that
21:19
But uh yeah, um Trevor Connolly is gonna be another interesting one
21:25
There's a lot of people, you know, uh had some issues in the past
21:29
you know, the some bad social media posts that were, you know
21:33
of course caught. I'm not gonna go into the details but uh on top of that
21:38
he uh you know, in this, the gold medal game versus Canada last week
21:42
he took a really terrible penalty in the third period. A really bad one. It was a headshot there uh literally costs USA uh gold
21:51
medal. So I I'm, I'm thinking, you know, he could be a guy that drops uh in this draft
21:57
I mean, I, you can't deny his talent though. II, I think he has like top five talent in this draft
22:02
Uh, these interviews, uh, coming up are going to be very important for him
22:06
But he's another guy, like I, I think if he interviews well, he could
22:09
he could be a real steal too. But II, I don't see that as the kind of guy eman might go for but
22:15
uh, they're gonna have some good people to pick from. It's, it's uh they're gonna get a quality player here
22:21
Uh And I really hope they don't trade that pick. But uh we'll see
22:25
man. I, I'm excited for the draft. This is my favorite time of the year. Yeah
22:29
we, we all love it there at the hockey writer. We've got lots of stuff going on
22:34
I lots of profiles, lots of. So if you want to take a look at any of those players that we just mentioned
22:39
we have profiles on all of them already on the website. So I dive in and we'll also be doing target pieces and our normal
22:46
stuff. Uh Red Wings centric too. So, yeah, lots of fun stuff coming up uh for the draft
22:54
but you mentioned trades uh Evan and I mean, we've asked this on the show before
22:59
uh but now that we've gotten some time and you know, where the Red Wings are uh related to where they finished in the standings
23:07
and all that stuff. Um, Devin, would you trade this pick? Uh
23:11
even if, you know, they don't really, I mean, technically they don't really need to need to have it
23:18
um, where they are on the rebuild, but it would be good to still add to that prospect pool
23:23
Now, not necessarily trading for a player, they could trade up, trade down
23:27
um, as he did with Ka, right. You mentioned that, um would
23:32
would you move this pick? I mean, lots of, lots of ways to do it
23:37
but would you do it open to it? Um I think it depends on a lot of factors
23:44
right? Um I think the thing I would be most open to honestly is trading down
23:50
not up but down. Um And that would be based on what the board looks like
23:56
Um As it's kind of approaching Detroit's pick, we talk about how there's gonna be a run on defenseman and there might be some forwards
24:03
that are falling and it's, and revs might be uh able to and I have some just let fall in their lap
24:10
Um That might present an opportunity where they can trade back a few spots
24:15
add additional, um, draft picks or whatever. Um And then still get a guy because there's just enough that have fallen that
24:24
they're able to, you know, kind of pass up on a few of them and still get one that you feel really good about
24:30
Um I don't think they need to trade back. Like, I don't think they should trade back super far
24:34
but if the right opportunity is there, I would certainly explore it
24:38
Um, the next thing I would, I trading up, I don't think necessarily makes sense
24:45
Um, unless they really love a guy and if Eisenman really loves a guy
24:49
I'm inclined to trust his judgment. I would, if there's one guy I think that they would trade up for
24:54
Honestly, it's Shay Bloom's brother uh Z um just to unite them
24:59
right? Um But I think that what it would take to trade up to get him would is probably a little too much and maybe
25:05
doesn't make, make sense, especially considering what uh Detroit's prospect pool looks like
25:11
Um So I don't, I think that's the least likely thing. Um But then also
25:16
and, and we're gonna talk about this a lot throughout the summer. Uh The reins do have holes to fill and the free agent
25:21
free agent class is, it's not weak, but it's also not exactly overflowing with the type of guys the wings need to go and get
25:30
um we talk about how they need to address their goaltending situation
25:34
Um If they're gonna get a guy that like is gonna actually address that need
25:40
they probably need to give up a premium asset to do. So, and I think that the 15th pick is one that they can um
25:46
they can rationalize depending on who they're getting. Um So, I guess my answer there is
25:52
I'm open to it under the right circumstance. Um, I think the
25:55
the best situation they can find themselves in is that they don't have to move that pick
26:00
They obviously don't have to move that pick. Um, but they can just be fine with taking whoever is there at 15
26:07
they are gonna have a lot of options to them, like we've already said. Um, but they can give themselves even more options by really
26:14
just exploring the trade market. True. And problem is this year, it's unlike last year
26:20
which they did use their, a lot of their picks, but they had a lot of second round picks last year
26:25
They could have used to trade, they only have one, their original one this year and really they don't have a ton of draft picks
26:33
like they've usually done in the past where they were like so many because they've traded a bunch at the deadline and
26:39
or traded to get them. Um, they only have, well, they have only an extra one is the seventh round which a new Jersey Devils
26:47
pick in the seventh. Uh, they have the Dallas Stars pick in the fourth
26:51
They traded their fourth round pick, um their own. So they really only have two picks in one round
26:57
Uh The rest of them are just one so they don't have a lot of draft capital to trade
27:03
to add on to that. First round pick to say, to entice a team in that top echelon to gun and say
27:09
OK, we will move down. So yeah, it'll be interesting to see if they can move up if they want to move up
27:16
Uh Evan, what do you think about this? Do you, do you trade it? Uh the pick
27:21
I'm not, I mean, I think the quality of players, the guys I just discussed
27:25
you can tell I'm a fan of and again, II, I think this draft is
27:29
you know, I, I think it's a little deeper uh for the forward side, especially after coming with the defenseman run
27:34
that's gonna happen. So II, I think, you know, the rows are gonna get a quality asset at 15 II
27:39
I really do and you know, you, you, you're gonna need younger guys now and El CS eventually in the next couple of years
27:46
So uh I think they're gonna keep that pick. Yeah, especially if some of these guys that I mentioned fall like if Berkeley cat and
27:53
fall or I, I still think Beckett Sene, I think he's going to be one of the guys that's taken earlier than we expect
28:00
Uh I really, really like his game. Like I said, uh Devin mentioned cons heus another guy that would be great if he dropped
28:07
but I don't see it, just don't see it happening. Uh Boom's probably why I is gonna probably be a pipe dream
28:14
but he'd be great too. I mean, there's just, I think there's gonna be a lot of options. I don't think anyone really yet can
28:19
tell how this draft is gonna play out, especially, uh, you know, after the first three or four picks
28:24
But, um, you know, the, the Red Wings are gonna get a good player here. I'm very confident of that and
28:30
uh, II, I think they keep that pick and I, I inclined to agree
28:34
I think, I think that's something they're, they're not gonna be trading it. I mean, Eisenman hasn't traded away
28:40
I, he's acquired more and that's what he's usually doing. Uh, and
28:46
you know, last year and, you know, had the two or not last year
28:49
but the year before they had, it was the year before he had two first rounders
28:53
um, and ended up getting uh axel sounding peli and it's a
28:59
you know, and Nate Danielson in that same draft. So lots of
29:03
he's not gonna have that. I don't think he trades it away. I think he won't keep it or like
29:09
move down maybe, um if, if something happens where they're like, oh
29:13
we can still get the guy down there and maybe gain something in the process too
29:18
So we'll see, we'll see what happens with Eisenman and we never really know what he want
29:21
what he does. So never gonna really expect it. All right, final off the rush
29:28
final round of our uh fun quiz here and I'll start with you
29:33
Evan. Three players played all 82 games this season. Who were they
29:40
Mhm. Cider. Yeah, Raymond. Yep. And
29:58
to break it to bring it. Yeah. There you go. Got all three
30:02
Nice, nice. You owe me Devin. Next I Devon most drawn
30:11
penalties. See Evan just aced that first question and now here I am the tape
30:16
I have no clue on this one man. Um, drew the most penalties
30:23
Yeah. Lucas Raymond. Yeah. Yeah
30:34
40 he drew 42. We're doing much better than last year. I will stay on the penalty track
30:43
I Evan who took the most minor penalties? Oh, darn it. Uh I
30:53
say Ross Ross Mason. No, the defenseman, uh who took the most penalties and they were a defenseman
31:03
minor penalties, minor penalties and not included majors and whatever it has to be
31:09
Cider. Right? Not cider. Well, Jake Waldman. No, no. Ok. Ben
31:19
Shara. Right. Ok. Ok. 28 minor penalties. That's crazy. All right. Who
31:28
who had the most power play goals? Evan, I'll start with you
31:35
Uh Raymond. No. Really? Larkin. Larkin. Yeah. 14 power
31:44
play goals, right? Last one. I, I'll, I'll go to Devon who had the most
31:51
who had penalty shots this season. So there were three players who had penalty shots and one had two
32:00
So bonus if you can name the person that had the two but three guys had penalty shots who
32:09
had penalty shots this year. I know one of them. Jake. Wal
32:18
Jake. W Yeah. Ok. Ok. I don't, I don't think he was the one with two
32:24
Not the one with two. Um, was Larkin one of them
32:33
No, no. Ok. No, it's not the normal guys you'd expect. Yeah
32:40
Is Christian Fisher? No, no, for sure. Edit this out too. We
32:48
we didn't do 1/5 question actually. Who is? Ok. Sprong. Yeah. Strong wall
32:59
Those are the guys that had the one and they score, they scored on them
33:04
This guy didn't score and he had two of them. Larkin, no
33:11
Andrew Copp and he didn't score. Oh, no, he's just a guy
33:17
dude. No, I wanted to retroactively give Andrew Copp the, just a guy award
33:27
Just a guy, dude. I was surprised that, that, that they had that many players have apparently shot
33:36
So literally all I could think of was Kane's penalty or uh uh a shootout thing
33:42
Yeah. Yeah. And that's obviously different. All bonus one just to finish
33:48
I, who had the most game winners? I was surprised about this because he didn't play all season
33:54
Was it can. Yeah. Yeah, Kane at seven, I didn't realize that that many game winners
34:00
Good thing. You didn't give the good clue away. Yeah. Well, I did give a clue who didn't play all Yeah
34:09
that was, that was actually making us look good. It's OK. All right
34:15
All right. Well, that was fun. Um We'll, we'll have a few more
34:19
I may do this throughout the off season because it's fun to kind of look up some of these obscure stats and look
34:25
get more NHL edge again. Maybe we hit the post the most
34:29
Good Lord. I was, that was a fun one. All right. Uh Well
34:34
we'll, uh we'll keep talking draft before the draft. We'll be doing that almost every week
34:39
maybe. Um Talking about the draft is that and then free agency is right after that
34:44
So we'll, we'll be talking lots of it. Um But thanks Evan, thanks Devin for another show here uh on the Grind line
34:50
Make sure check it out. All of our articles, talk.com lots of off season content coming up
34:55
Some of it's already come out uh and lots of draft content too
35:00
not just Red Wings but draft in general. So if you want information
35:05
check out the Hawk Grays website because we got a ton of it already
35:09
