It is Tuesday, June the 10th, 2025, and these are momentous days in early June this summer of 25
0:10
This is the warning. Will it be a summer like 1968, one that history recalls as a moment where it felt like the wheels
0:21
were coming off, or perhaps this time maybe the wheels will come off? What is it that we are seeing
0:28
and what will happen next. There are a lot of people talking about that. And what I want to do
0:35
today is say some things about what I think is going to happen next. And before I do, I want to
0:42
establish some credibility, some credibility based on what I have said would happen over the last 10
0:49
years. So you can appreciate what it is that I'm saying will happen next and make a decision about
0:57
whether what I'm saying makes sense or not, to use your own intelligence, your own clear and
1:04
free thinking abilities to understand what it is that you're saying. Here's what I said about
1:09
Donald Trump in 2012. He was confronted by Wolf Blitzer about it. Steve Schmidt, who managed John
1:16
McCain's campaign four years ago, he says this about you. He says, for three and a half years
1:22
a lot of people who should have known better have been complicit in kowtowing to a
1:27
Republican whack pack of which Trump is a leading member. The result is a diminished Republican
1:32
brand that appears unhealthy to millions of Americans who are looking for an alternative
1:37
to the status quo. I denounced the birther lie. And when he came down the escalator in Trump Tower
1:45
I was among the very first people to say, yes, he could win the Republican nomination
1:51
And I was among the very first to say he was winning. And I was among the very first to say
1:56
he had won it. And in September of 2020, I said, when he was saying that he would never accept the
2:05
results of an election unless he won, that it would lead to violence. And it did
2:10
This behavior that we've seen will usher in a new destructive era in American democracy. We'll
2:16
be dealing with the aftermath of the weeks that followed this election for decades, for decades
2:23
in this country. It is it is as tragic a thing as we've seen in the entirety of the Trump era
2:29
I knew exactly what I was looking at on that night in 2020 when Donald Trump walked out
2:36
and intimated for the first time that he wouldn't accept the results of an election when it was clear
2:41
that Joe Biden had won it. Steve Schmidt is here with us in New York. Steve, the moment you
2:47
feared the direct answer to a direct question about the result of this election on November 8th
2:54
has happened. It sure has. And I think it's a disqualifying moment. It's a moment of clear
3:00
and present danger to our constitutional order, to the republic. It's unprecedented in the history
3:05
of the country. Over and over and over again, I've talked about what's going to happen next
3:12
And then it happened. I talked about it with regard to what would happen if Joe Biden ran for reelection
3:19
And I talked about over and over again the clear intention the clear words of Donald Trump that demonstrated his desire to deploy the American military to crack heads against the American people
3:34
If we are in fact, right, entering into the golden age of America led by the, right, led by
3:41
the MAGA Republicans, and you and I are two people as wrong about anything that two people have ever
3:47
been wrong about anything about, and we're going to be totally discredited. I don't think that's
3:53
going to happen. But where is the line, right? I'm glad you asked. Is it 20 days in? Is it 30
4:00
days in? Is it on immigration? Is it on the deployment of the military? Is it on the
4:08
confirmation hearings? And that's what we're witnessing. Donald Trump, for a long time
4:14
has made it clear that he would love to see the U.S. military point their weapons on his command
4:22
and open fire on the Americans that he wishes to kill, that he wishes to get rid of. Do you remember
4:29
this scene outside of Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, outside the White House gates? Donald Trump
4:37
wanted the military to attack peaceful protesters that day. General Milley put a stop to it
4:45
Secretary of Defense Esper put a stop to it. Now, in the Oval Office, Stephen Miller wanted the U.S
4:52
Navy to blow away migrants in wooden boats off the coast of San Diego. General Milley rebuked him
4:59
He said, shut the up, Stephen. But there is no one like that around anymore. And so think about
5:06
it this way. John Kennedy said, we'll go to the moon because we're a nation of explorers and
5:13
adventurers. And we do these things not because they're easy, but because they're hard. What
5:18
Donald Trump has said over and over again is something very different. His vision is dark
5:23
and it's violent. They spit, we hit. Pete Hegseth has deployed the 7th Marines, 2nd Battalion
5:32
This is one of the most lethal light infantry forces in the world, in any military
5:38
And it has a story and history. 2nd Battalion 7th Marines were there on Guadalc at Henderson Field
5:45
They led the charge at Pailu. They were at Gloucester on Okinawa
5:50
They were in China. 7th Marines have been in Iraq and in Afghanistan, in the Gulf, in Incheon, in Chosan, in Vietnam
5:59
Their legend, their history has been made on foreign battlefields. They have no business being deployed into an American city by a wannabe tyrant
6:12
And yet the Marines have been sent to Los Angeles. Their training is interrupted
6:17
They can't do anything under the law, under posse comitatus. But there they are as a show of growing military force at Donald Trump's command
6:27
where, whether people realize it or not, whether they're cheering on the federal forces against
6:33
the Mexican flag-waving rioters and El Salvadoran flag-waving rioters or not, Trump's bayonet
6:41
is pointed at them Donald Trump has called for the arrest of the governor of the nation largest state of nearly 40 million people Same size as Canada by the way that he threatened with military invasion and economic war
6:58
Donald Trump keeps threatening the use of violence, the use of force
7:03
And what he did is allow his deranged henchmen and women, Kristi Noem, Tom Homan, Corey Lewandowski, to provoke a type of war in Los Angeles by militarizing
7:17
federal forces to arrest 12 to 25 day laborers at a Home Depot in Paramount, California
7:25
Federal forces provoked a riot, and a riot is what they achieved. And that riot is now the pretext
7:33
Trump's rolling Reichstag fire for the use of more force. 2,000 National Guard have been
7:41
turned into 4,000 U.S. Army. A battalion of light infantry of United States Marines has joined
7:49
a brigade-sized force now in America's second largest city, Los Angeles. And that force is
7:56
growing. What is their purpose? What is it that they seek to do? How long will they be there
8:02
How many more military forces will be deployed into how many more cities
8:09
And how will you feel about it when the armored personnel carriers roll down your street
8:16
And a mass deportation effort that Trump says is aimed at in excess by his count of 20 million human beings
8:26
And so this is a preview of what it looks like. And Trump has assembled people around him who have no interest in building the shining city upon a hill
8:38
They have no interest in making life better for a struggling kid or his working mom
8:44
They have no interest in lifting up out of poverty into prosperity, a family that is known only suffering
8:52
They don't care. They're indifferent. What they want is power and permanent power and the ability to take what they want when they want it from whomever they like
9:02
That's the offer on the table. And so it took less than 150 days for Donald Trump in the second term to deploy an active combat unit in the United States Marine Corps into the city of Los Angeles
9:19
And they're coming to New York and they're coming to Chicago and they're coming to a great American city near you
9:28
Is this what a free society looks like? Is this what a healthy democracy looks like
9:35
The answer to the question is no. And so the profound issue on the table is whether the American people will permit this
9:44
permit the Trump bayonet pointed at their throat at the heart of the republic
9:50
Behind me are some life magazines that tell the story of the 20th century
9:55
One of them is dated from June of 1939. The Statue of Liberty is on the cover
10:00
The question is about America's future, and that question remains relevant in this moment
10:06
What future are we headed into on the edge of the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States the greatest force for freedom and upward progress in human civilization Government of the people by the people for the
10:23
people. Most profound words ever put to paper by the mind of man. This idea that all men are created
10:31
equal, endowed by a creator with inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit
10:37
of happiness, a great republic of justice, where all are equal under the rule of law
10:44
You see, in America, people who rose up in defiance against injustice that we remember
10:51
as great patriots like Martin Luther King, they did not seek to burn down an unjust society
10:58
They simply asked to be included in the promise, in the charter. Dr. King talked about marching
11:04
to Washington in 1963 to collect a promissory note. He said over and over again that he just
11:11
wanted America to live up to its promise. And what is that promise in 2025? What is it that we have
11:19
turned away from and turned towards, towards Trump and away from justice, away from the rule of law
11:28
away from the idea that there's dignity in all human beings. And so Donald Trump raised his hand
11:36
and swore a 35-word oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States
11:44
And he didn't mean a word of it. And he's assaulted that Constitution. He's tried to burn it up
11:49
every second of every minute of every hour of every day since January 20th. And now we are
11:56
watching the beginning of a long, hot, angry Trump summer of 2025, still a few weeks short
12:05
of the official start of what will long be remembered as a summer of violence and insanity
12:13
and craziness, where an American president, a fascist, decided to bare his teeth
12:19
And lest anybody be confused, the violence is wholly part of MAGA
12:28
It is inherent to any fascist system. And that is exactly what Trump is
12:36
Fascism has come to America wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross
12:41
And it has deployed the United States military against who? Trump's enemies
12:47
Half the country, as it turns out. And let me just say, if you hate half the people who live in your nation, it's impossible for you to love your country
12:56
But maybe, just maybe, Trump doesn't love the country. In fact, it's clearly so
13:02
Trump loves Trump. Trump loves power. And you're seeing him exercise it
13:07
And soon, the tip of that steel sword will be in a city near you
13:12
And what will you, as a free American citizen, do about it
13:16
That is the question that is coming due
