TriBit sent me their Stormbox lava portable speaker, so let's check it out
0:05
Alright, so this opens up from the back side. And the first thing I see is going to be this box, which is going to have the strap
0:14
a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, the rest of the strap, and a user manual
0:20
So here's the speaker itself, and this thing has some pretty good weight to it
0:24
So right here, putting it on top of the scale, This is going to be about 5 pounds and 2 and an eighth ounce
0:32
Now taking a look on top, there's going to be these two metal loops. And this is where we can attach the straps to
0:37
Followed by a few buttons. So I guess this is the power button. Plus, minus
0:42
And then some other icons here. You got like the infinity symbol. This X
0:47
So this says bass in the middle. And then the Bluetooth symbol. And oh, okay, this is the power button
0:52
And then here's the rest of the speaker on the side. the other side and then here's the bottom so the bottom is going to have this rubber grip this
1:00
rubber stand just to prevent it from rolling around and then finally on the back side there's
1:04
these ports so this is where we can charge it from via usbc or usba followed by the auxiliary port
1:13
all right and the straps attach pretty easily just put them to the side and it's good to go
1:18
and this could be carried on the side like this over your head and this can also be extended out
1:23
and it gets pretty long so I can really have it over my shoulder and this is going to be
1:31
you know by my side or again put it over my neck like this kind of like a messenger bag style but
1:37
if that strap's too long then we could also use this smaller strap and it attaches just as easily
1:41
and this is going to be more of a handle style just to carry it like this and it is
1:47
very little stretch so yeah this isn't like rubber you can't pull it it kind of gives me
1:54
a paracord kind of style based on how the threading looks like and yeah it can just be
2:00
carried like this all right so now let's get this set up so the power button right over here i can
2:03
hold on to it and it makes this cool noise and the bluetooth logo does look to be on so i can go
2:11
straight to my phone and then go to Bluetooth scroll all the way down and
2:17
let me give it a few seconds let's see if anything pops up
2:25
all right nothing yet so let me just press the Bluetooth button and there it
2:31
immediately started here so Tribit Stormbox Lava and there now it's connected so this also does come with an app and because I already had another
2:40
device connected to it. I already have the app installed. And simply to add the speaker, just press the plus button here
2:46
And then it's going to search for it. And then there it found it. So I'll click on it and then press connect to
2:55
And there it's added. So here's what we get. And if you see on the top part it says that there a new version available A new firmware available a new firmware version So let me go ahead and upgrade that now All right Precautions for the firmware play
3:09
Before upgrade, please make sure that the following distance between device and the phone is within one meter. The network is good condition
3:13
Earbuds cannot be placed in the box. During the upgrade, please pay attention to following. The upgrade takes between five to ten minutes
3:17
Do not leave the current page. Always keep the phone screen on. All right. So that's all good
3:22
Okay, got it. And then update now. all right and here's what the screen looks like so i'll give it about five to ten minutes
3:33
and then i'll be right back all right so it's been a few minutes and this is all good to go so okay got it
3:46
and check it out so here's what the interface looks like this is what i see so right on top
3:51
we're going to have the storm box lava and now this is an icon i can't move it though so it stays
3:56
like that and right below that we have the battery indicator which is currently at 60 battery life
4:01
right here is the audio control so i can scroll this for more or less volume and then there that's
4:07
the max volume made a noise and the minimum volume yeah it doesn't say anything uh play skip previous
4:14
and that's it for that and this is for speaker now on the right side in the center we have equalizer
4:20
so this gives me a bunch of different options from jazz rock classical audiobook x base extra base
4:27
or extra base off and also some customize customization so i can press plus and i can
4:33
name it whatever i want so example confirm and here i could just mess with everything
4:38
just like that and then let me see if i press plus
4:47
set up new queue, actually set up later example there so now we can switch between the different custom modes
4:58
and then go back and then that's the current one there but let me go to the regular preset ones
5:04
let me go through extra bass and we can also customize the order
5:08
of these options so if I hold it here I can drag them
5:15
but I'll leave it like that for now. Finished. And now bottom right settings. So we could see the
5:21
firmware version, the device name. Oh yeah, I could change the device name, but I'll leave it as is
5:26
Countdown to shutdown. Device will shut down at the end of the set time. Okay, so I can have it
5:33
shut down after a few minutes. So right now, let me set it for one minute. And then we could hear
5:39
that in a bit. Auto shutdown. So there's no operation or connection after five minutes
5:44
battery is lower than 5% in the connected state there is no music playing in the operation system after 15 minutes
5:50
ok so yeah I'll leave that on EQ button I guess that would be this over here
6:00
oh wait let me go back to that white light
6:18
yeah I'll just leave it at extra base button for that and then I can shut down update the
6:23
firmware factor reset or delete the device and up top and this is just some feedback
6:29
and then yeah that's basically about it for the app and if I go to mine section then this will just
6:35
prompt me to log in to sign up and then go through other things too but yeah that's basically about
6:40
it for the app. All right so now it's time for the most important part which is to test this out and it's also been over a minute and as you can see on the app the speaker automatically turned
6:49
off so now I just have to turn it back on. Perfect and now I'm gonna go through some songs and test
6:58
it out and let you know my thoughts. So for the next 10 minutes, I suckled through a bunch of
7:02
different songs and even messed with the settings, the EQ, and I tried to see if there was a big
7:07
difference between extra bass and bass and classical and all the other settings. And what
7:13
I did find is that the extra bass naturally gave me more bass, probably about like 40, maybe 50
7:19
more, which I do like bass. So I basically kept that on most of the time. And then messing with
7:25
the other ones, I didn't really notice a big difference. But then again, I'm not like an
7:29
audiophile, so I can't tell big differences between this. Now, as far as loudness goes
7:34
I changed the volume throughout. And when I got all the way to the max volume, it hit over 100
7:40
decibels. I think at one point it hit about 110 or 115. But when I lowered it, I kept it at around
7:47
80 to 90 decibels, or probably around half to three quarters of the max volume. At some point
7:53
I flipped the speaker to the side because I noticed the vibrations on the side
7:57
So I put a few things over there and I thought it was fun just watch them knock over
8:00
But overall as far as sound quality goes, I think it sounds good. This definitely sounds better than just my MacBook speakers or my phone
8:07
And yeah, it gets pretty loud in my opinion. Now this speaker also doubles as a power bank
8:12
So on the backside here when I open up the port, I can lift that up and then plug in on the USB-A side
8:18
And I'm just using the same cable that this came with. and then plug in the USB to my phone, USB-C
8:25
And then you can see right here, give it a few seconds and there, now it's charging
8:30
and it doubles as a power bank. Now it's important to note that this only works
8:33
on the USB-A port, that's gonna be the output because if we try plugging it on the other side
8:39
this is just an input. So that's where you would just charge the actual speaker itself
8:43
And if I try doing this, let me see what happens. So I plug it in here to the USB-C, plug in USB-C
8:50
It says this accessory uses too much power. So yeah, nothing can be done
8:59
I'm not charging it, nothing like that. But if I use my other cable that's connected directly to the power, I can plug this in
9:05
right here And there now this speaker is charging Let actually see the app to see if it changes something Alright so I at the app speaker And here you could see charging And then you can also see the
9:18
red indicator right there, letting us know that the speaker is charging. Now one thing I wish I
9:23
could test out, but I can't is going to be the TWS feature the stereo feature. So if you have
9:28
another one of these speakers, you can actually connect them together just with this button, right over here, like the infinity looking sign, and then one can be used as the right speaker
9:37
the other one can be used as the left speaker. And it's important to note that only one speaker has
9:41
to be connected to the device, and the other one doesn't have to be connected to anything at all
9:45
you just press the button and everything should sync up. Now according to TriBit, this speaker is
9:49
also going to be IP67 rating, which means it's sort of waterproof. So I can dump this in up to
9:56
one meter of water for about 30 minutes, and it should be fine, it can be sprayed under normal
10:01
conditions of a hose, I can leave it outside, I can leave it inside, if it gets wet, it should be
10:06
fine and that's because on the backside here you can see that the ports are completely covered and
10:11
when I do open it up if you take a closer look at it there's going to be like a gasket all around
10:16
here. So unfortunately my pool is closed right now otherwise I just dunk this in there for 30 minutes
10:20
but I'll do the next best thing which is just put it in the shower for a bit
11:06
All right, so it's been over 30 minutes and now let's check the speaker out
11:36
Alright, so I can turn it on. Let's see, where's the power button right here? And yeah, everything seems to be working fine, and let me play this
11:48
Because of copyright issues, I'm not playing the music, but it's working fine
11:52
And when you look at over here on the side, you can see like the little water droplets are coming out
11:56
just because of all the sound that's coming out. So it's pretty cool to look at. But now let me pause it and go back to this
12:02
And yeah, everything works good with this. So overall, I'm pretty happy with this Stormbox Lava speaker
12:06
It feels durable. It's got great sound and great bass. And this is definitely going to be fun for the summer when I go on the beach
12:13
But yeah, if you're looking for a speaker, definitely check this one out
