0:00
where in that first half you get the
0:02
double digit lead um holding to a low
0:04
field goal percentage things like that
0:05
just what did you like today defensively
0:08
about what you guys are doing against
0:09
SMU team that you know obviously has a
0:11
lot of size in that front Court yeah I
0:13
thought we did a really good job
0:14
defending the post uh we double teamed
0:17
um the post and I thought that was we
0:19
worked on that the last couple days of
0:20
practice and I thought we executed that
0:22
really well uh with the exception of a
0:26
couple times they're you know really
0:27
good Shooters they were staring at our
0:29
shoes shot to three I thought we did a
0:31
really good job of staying with their
0:33
Shooters and cross is a matchup
0:36
nightmare cuz he can play on the
0:38
perimeter he can post he can shoot
0:40
threes and I thought we did a really
0:41
good job on him in defending without
0:44
fouling it was one of our best defensive
0:46
halves um I felt like our pressure our
0:49
presence on the ball created turnovers
0:51
we
0:52
finished uh defensive possessions with a
0:54
rebound cuz we talked about them they're
0:56
the number one offensive rebounding team
0:58
in in the ACC and so
1:00
uh that first half was really good
1:02
defensively H along those lines did you
1:04
feel like maybe the way you fought
1:07
rebounding wise and kept some of the
1:09
offensive rebounds alive sort of gave
1:11
you the the juice or the energy that
1:13
that really got you going in the first
1:14
half I mean I do I really do I mean that
1:16
that always gives us life I mean for us
1:19
you know defensively and being able to
1:21
finish it with a rebound then it allows
1:23
us to get out in transition where I feel
1:24
like we've been consistently good all
1:26
season but it's something that you know
1:29
we talked about the last couple of days
1:32
um just in terms of not allowing them to
1:35
get Second Chance opportunities how good
1:37
they were keeping the ball alive they're
1:39
a big team I felt like we were smaller
1:42
at every
1:43
position I felt like every guy on their
1:45
team was two or three inches taller than
1:47
myself and I thought we did a good job
1:49
of making contact First and everybody
1:52
you know we before the game we talked
1:55
about everything that we do it has to be
1:57
done together and we just kept saying it
2:00
to each other whether it's hey we got to
2:02
rebound together we've got to defend
2:04
together we've got to take care of the
2:06
ball together we've got to execute
2:08
offensively together and it's just
2:10
something that this team continues to
2:12
say about in order for us to be the best
2:15
at that we can be like it has to be all
2:18
parts working together and I felt like
2:21
especially in the first half defensively
2:22
we're able to do that Andrew yesterday
2:24
you said that Saturday Notre Dame was
2:26
the game you guys talked the most
2:28
offensively this year it looked like
2:30
there was a carryover and that was
2:32
something out there tonight was I do I
2:33
really do it was um the last couple
2:35
practices good communication today um in
2:38
the locker room before the game on the
2:40
court um in the Huddle guys holding each
2:44
other accountable making sure
2:45
everybody's on the same page in terms of
2:48
what we are defensively what play we're
2:50
running on the offensive end out of
2:52
bounds
2:52
underneath and after the game I said you
2:55
guys did a really good job of
2:56
communicating the things that I said and
2:58
just making sure everybody's on the p
2:59
agage of what we're trying to do on both
3:01
ends of the floor with substitutions
3:03
timeouts and so again it was another
3:06
game where I felt like the communication
3:08
even though I think it can get better
3:10
was was really good the foul on Ian
3:13
Jackson the hard one seemed to really
3:15
get you pretty emotional fired up what
3:17
was kind of going through your mind
3:18
there in those moments yeah just you
3:20
know thinking about Ian you know it's um
3:24
you know SMU and all their players are
3:26
fantastic kids and players um but just
3:29
seeing Ian up in the air um defenseless
3:33
and just making sure he was okay and
3:38
um my reaction was my reaction that I
3:41
have with my three kids and just wanted
3:43
to protect them and make sure that
3:45
they're okay and I'm thankful that uh
3:48
Ian was able to pop back up and and
3:50
knock down those two free throws Drake
3:52
had 11 right out of the gate and RJ was
3:54
saying that the guys are telling him to
3:56
be more aggressive offensively seems
3:57
like he's looking for a shot a lot more
3:59
in in recent games do you see that
4:01
confidence growing in him and what has
4:03
what has sparked that yeah I mean I want
4:05
everybody to be aggressive you know I
4:07
want everyone to shoot the shot when
4:09
they're open and I want them to take
4:11
shots that they practice before and
4:13
after practice and and shots that I've
4:15
seen in practice and the shots that
4:17
Drake took are shots that I see him work
4:19
on all the time and the shots that he
4:21
takes in practice and I want him to have
4:22
the confidence to be able to step up and
4:24
knock him down and he gave us a huge
4:26
lift at the beginning of the game you
4:28
know SMU started off in like a Zone and
4:31
then it would morph into a man and and
4:34
so it took us a while to get to a rhythm
4:36
in terms of what we were trying to run
4:38
on the offensive end and Drake his
4:40
threes in the first half really opened
4:42
things up for us and gave us the
4:44
confidence to be able to execute on the
4:45
offensive end take two more youber
4:48
what's the challenge of um now that you
4:50
have Seth back working him back in he
4:52
was playing so well obviously before he
4:54
got hurt missed the three games like
4:57
what is that challenge of of working
4:58
back in and how much practice did he
5:00
miss was yesterday's practice the first
5:02
time he was bad First full practice yes
5:04
yeah um I don't look at it as a
5:06
challenge I look at it as u a good thing
5:09
he's
5:10
back you know and so I didn't mean it to
5:13
be a bad thing no yeah and and I
5:15
understand it it does you know it it
5:17
takes time you you know you think the
5:19
last time that he played was at UCLA
5:21
that's a long time and so a huge part of
5:25
a basketball is finding your Rhythm and
5:27
there's nothing that you can do to get
5:29
your rhythm other than being out there
5:30
on the floor and so he'll be much better
5:33
at practice on on Thursday and uh he'll
5:36
be much better um um on Saturday but I
5:40
expected him to be a little rusty
5:42
because he hadn't played for a long time
5:44
but I'm so happy that he's back um
5:47
having him on the floor uh makes us a
5:50
really good basketball team uh because
5:52
of his ability um to score and defend
5:56
and I'm so happy he's back in the lineup
5:58
last one Andrew RJ said that his shot
6:00
was a little flat earlier this year and
6:02
he's worked a lot on getting the arc up
6:04
he's watched a lot of film work with
6:05
Marcus as a shooter yourself how
6:08
difficult is it in midseason to go from
6:10
shooting the balls a little bit flat to
6:12
getting the right kind of Arc that he
6:13
now has shown the last few games yeah I
6:15
don't think it's very difficult at all I
6:17
mean it's I think it's difficult to make
6:19
major changes in your shot but you know
6:22
um changes in terms of let me get a
6:24
little bit more Arc let me use uh my
6:27
legs a little bit more let me get my
6:28
elbow in let me make sure that my my
6:31
guide hand isn't too much on the ball
6:34
those are little tweaks and pivots that
6:37
everybody adjusts and makes throughout a
6:39
season and so you can that's very easy
6:42
to do it's the big changes in your shot
6:44
that normally can't occur during the
6:47
year and so you know
6:49
RJ the best critic on any one shot is
6:53
your own
6:54
shot it just is it doesn't it doesn't
6:57
come from anyone else um the person that
6:59
knew my shot the most was me and so I
7:02
knew when I was making shots I knew when
7:04
I was missing and why I was missing in
7:06
the same regards for RJ and he is he's
7:09
in more of a rhythm now and and knocking
7:11
down shots and um that that's exactly
7:14
the way that I like it thanks coach
7:16
thanks
