that voice right there is a voice of
0:01
power Heather be I know it not just on
0:04
the court but off the court man I know a
0:06
lot of people right now are love this
0:08
man and I'm one of them I watched this
0:10
man play throughout the NBA and where he
0:12
landed when he landed in my hometown of
0:14
Oakland I just knew was something
0:16
special about him you just G to skip
0:19
right past New York right this GNA be a
0:21
fight today citizens I ain't with it but
0:23
I'm with it you with it I he okay talk
0:26
about that part but you know you know
0:28
okay but the man came into um the bay
0:30
are yes absolutely we're going to talk
0:32
about the New York Knicks right we're
0:34
going to talk about the Los Angeles
0:35
Clippers if we need to the Indiana
0:38
Pacers the Denver Nuggets we can name
0:40
all the teams that he landed on but it's
0:42
when he came to the Golden State and he
0:45
came to Northern California and we
0:48
embraced him we embraced him like the
0:50
leader that he is and he had the science
0:52
he had the vision he had the Brilliance
0:55
to piece together the puzzle and make
0:57
what we now known as the four time NBA
1:01
champions in the last past 15 years I
1:04
believe four time NBA champions Golden
1:07
State Warriors but he was the man they
1:10
say Steph Curry changed the game with
1:12
his shot I think he changed the game
1:14
with his coaching I never heard the
1:16
expression super team I didn't
1:19
understand what they said he put
1:20
together a super team those players
1:22
weren't a super they weren't considered
1:24
super when he was able to put them
1:25
together and create a method that made
1:28
them into Champions so what he he was
1:30
able to do with the Golden State
1:31
Warriors isn't the same what what
1:33
happened with Miami it's not the same as
1:36
what's happening with these teams now I
1:38
want to welcome him to this show
1:39
citizens the one and only the iconic
1:43
Mark Jackson
1:45
absolutely come on man you're too kind
1:48
no man any play for the Knicks
1:51
wow FYI that's a throwaway line FYI not
1:56
the fun fact y that's the fun fact Trac
1:59
G we got Tracy G who's in New York right
2:02
now you're going to hear her voice but
2:03
if you look at that camera she'll be
2:05
able to see you um what's up Mark and
2:07
Mark you didn't come along man who's
2:09
this guy next to you man it's my oldest
2:11
the oldest of four uh blue young hyena
2:14
and uh proud of
2:16
them so we we just have a great time and
2:19
I'm extremely proud of them gave me my
2:22
first grandson my first Grand a year ago
2:25
congratulations man what's up blue what
2:27
up what up S what up how y'all feeling
2:30
yeah man you ain't shooting blanks huh
2:32
oh wow n n far from me far from okay
2:35
your pop shooting points you you ain't
2:37
shooting blanks right he's the assist
2:38
man I'm I'm the shooter you're the
2:40
shooter right Mark you're the all time
2:42
and assist what where do you rank as in
2:44
terms of assist don't get me to lying I
2:46
finished my career second all time I
2:48
think since then I've been passed by I
2:51
believe three or four guys so I think
2:53
I'm Fifth Fifth Chris Paul Steve Nash
2:56
LeBron James uh Jason kid has passed me
2:59
since since my retirement so I believe
3:01
I'm fifth or sixth but think about that
3:03
I mean a kid growing up in New York City
3:05
with dreams of one day making it not
3:07
realistic dreams to be on a list of uh
3:10
incredible alltime greats that we know
3:12
on a first name basis and my name thrown
3:13
in the middle of it wow it's a humbling
3:15
experience oh man and it was well earned
3:17
congratulations growing up in new New
3:19
York City by way of Queens born in
3:22
Brooklyn the first seven years of my
3:23
life moved to Queens and then living in
3:26
Queens traveled an hour and a half back
3:28
to Brooklyn to go to High school so I'm
3:30
probably the first guy the only guy that
3:31
can claim both Brooklyn and Queens but
3:33
I'm extremely proud to represent both
3:35
okay Mark Jackson man hey so tell me
3:37
about your your upbringing though what
3:39
was that like well I was I was fortunate
3:41
you know a lot of people in my
3:43
neighborhood didn't have both parents
3:45
okay my mom and dad were married 40
3:46
years and showed me what love was all
3:49
about um lost my dad about 24 years ago
3:53
and lost my mom about four years ago but
3:56
instilled a lot in me and I talk about
3:58
it even on the podcast when I was 7
4:00
years old tried out for uh my first
4:03
basketball team made the team mom and
4:06
dad showed up to every game I was the
4:07
worst player on the team really I scored
4:09
one point the entire year but you would
4:10
think I was the man the way my mom was
4:12
yelling so the encouragement the
4:14
inspiration that she gave and U my dad
4:17
would sit there and either shake his
4:19
head yes or shake his head no that's all
4:20
he did but I knew the love and the the
4:23
support they provided and uh something I
4:25
don't take for granted and propelled me
4:27
to you know not only playing but what I
4:30
stand for as a man today I love that
4:32
Mark Jackson man um did did anything
4:35
their teachings their way of rearing you
4:37
as a child how did that transfer in your
4:39
way of rearing your CH your children my
4:42
dad hit me one time in my life uhhuh and
4:44
and I was I was younger than seven
4:46
because I remember it was in Brooklyn so
4:48
but the thing the thing that jumps out
4:51
is my dad got sick six months before he
4:53
died and and he never said I love you
4:57
and we never kissed until the sixth
5:00
month came and then now six months
5:03
before he died he looked at me he said I
5:05
didn't know it was this easy you know
5:06
he's old school black man yeah so he he
5:08
didn't know it was this easy so to say
5:10
that he Lov you yeah I knew he loved me
5:13
there was no doubt about it old school
5:14
black guys we they didn't say it yeah I
5:17
raised my kids we kiss on the cheek
5:20
obviously up blue was giving you some
5:22
tongue there Mark I didn't know what
5:23
going on when you said that the
5:26
interview my God I'm just glad he
5:27
cleared it up I'm sorry kiss me we say I
5:30
love you we show affection but it's it's
5:32
it's the the foundation that was laid by
5:35
my dad uh 6 months left too in his life
5:38
you realized and I said I'm I'm not
5:40
raising my kids that way so you learned
5:42
the good and the bad if for lack of a
5:45
better term the bad to propel you to
5:47
becomeing I'm sure blue becomes a better
5:49
parent because of some things he does
5:51
that I didn't I I did I I left on the
5:53
table and didn't do man I'm curious to
5:55
blue because when I you know being
5:57
working in entertainment all these years
5:59
for myself myself I never considered uh
6:02
when I was on MTV or start doing this
6:04
show Sway in the morning you know we we
6:06
get so much exposure as my daughter who
6:08
grew up here um in in Southern
6:11
California was growing up she was
6:13
feeling the effects of my celebrity
6:16
because kids were coming up to her and
6:18
if I did if I got into a fight with
6:20
somebody on the radio the kids brought
6:22
it up to her at school I'm curious to
6:24
you blue what was the effects of your
6:26
father's celebrity being who he who he
6:28
is and how did it affect you and your
6:31
growth as a young man well that's a
6:34
great question I just don't want to I
6:36
don't want to gloss over the fact that
6:37
he told that story about my grandfather
6:39
and he said how he loves and changed so
6:41
many things yeah he said he said my
6:43
popup only hit him one time why didn't
6:45
you follow those
6:47
steps why you ain't pick that one
6:51
up no but all Jo side it's it's it's
6:54
similar to what you say your daughter
6:56
deals with so I I go through those type
6:58
of things obviously back when I was in
7:00
high school and I was young but even
7:02
today uh doing the show with him that we
7:04
have the Mark Jackson show and and it's
7:07
a lot of things that going on in my
7:09
personal life that I got to kind of put
7:11
to the side because I'm doing something
7:13
big with my father that's bigger than
7:16
any nonsense like a lot of people watch
7:17
our show and they see my dad and they
7:20
expect my dad to be me like I'm not me I
7:23
got a son I be I like this whole last
7:26
few years I've been in and in and out of
7:28
court cases like dealing with nonsense
7:30
like I got my own life my own story I'm
7:33
a singer songwriter I've been working in
7:35
the industry for over 10 years so yes my
7:39
dad's presence is sometimes overwhelming
7:42
and so huge but it is a beautiful thing
7:45
and it's a blessing to sit up with my
7:47
father and talk with him and sometime
7:49
who else could
7:50
son just who else could do that else
7:54
could do that that's what I'm saying
7:55
like it's only it's only a few people
7:58
this what I got to deal with
8:00
y I love it man but that that that can
8:03
be as as you were talking it it it that
8:06
really can be an issue right um I had to
8:09
really identify that my own Dynamic and
8:12
go oh I got to be considerate that what
8:14
I do will impact my child and so as she
8:18
was growing up I made sure we balanced
8:20
it out you know she did a lot of charity
8:22
work she went to soup kitchens where uh
8:25
where homeless folks are and she's done
8:28
a lot of work around the world cuz I
8:29
wanted her to understand that the
8:31
celebrity just a byproduct of the work
8:33
it's the work you know your dad did a
8:35
lot of work you know from St John to who
8:38
where he is now to get there but the
8:40
celebrity makes it seem so glossy right
8:43
and it could really play a part on um
8:45
children's mental the psychological
8:48
effect right you're right about that and
8:49
and it is overwhelming because at the
8:52
same time that you you go to a
8:55
restaurant or you go you go to events
8:57
and people say come on that's that's
8:58
sway's daughter let her in there's some
9:00
folks that's going to be like no that's
9:01
sway's daughter leave her out there so
9:03
so that's the discouraging part about it
9:05
and it can be overwhelming but it's it's
9:07
it's it's it's also a blessing and you
9:09
can't lose sight that you're closer to
9:11
getting in than than you were before
9:14
sway or Mark was born so it's it's it's
9:16
it's it's it says a lot how far we've
9:18
come in the the dent that we've made in
9:21
society Man Mark Jackson is here blue is
9:23
your last name Jackson too of course
9:29
what's going on breaking
9:32
news Ivy Carter is his last
9:36
name
9:40
house we deal with it every day Mark oh
9:43
my good no no no I'm just right man Mark
9:46
growing up in Queens how we're around
9:49
the same age so how did you grow up how
9:52
where was LL when you was growing up
9:53
same neighborhood oh y'all grew up in
9:55
the same neighborhood I'm five minutes 5
9:57
minutes you can go la here I'm here Run
10:01
DMC here I mean it's it's Legends in
10:03
that that whole area that that I was
10:05
raised in uh Farmers Boulevard holl
10:08
Boulevard Murdoch Avenue so we grew up
10:11
together so you used to see like LL on
10:14
the streets we grew we grew up in the
10:16
same area really same exact area what
10:18
what what was the impact of Run DMC when
10:21
they when y'all start seeing them on MTV
10:23
and are you serious I mean like what the
10:26
heck like these dudes blew up and I mean
10:29
you know it because you lived it but it
10:31
was a whole different level and and
10:33
around the way they were Legends in in
10:35
LL you you see the red black and green
10:37
rock on Farmers Boulevard you see the
10:39
Hollis Hollis sign at Jamaica Park and
10:42
you wearing the Kango and and the and
10:44
the the kangles I had no choice
10:46
everybody did you used to yeah that's
10:48
true that's true they're impact and then
10:51
you see okay well L is driving a whitee
10:53
560 SEC convertible let me get one uh R
10:58
runs driv this or DMC or God Rest Soul
11:01
jamj they they they were around the
11:04
neighborhood and not not just around the
11:06
neighbor they were a part of the
11:07
neighborhood they didn't they never to
11:10
this day L still you know holds events
11:12
at okono Park the park that I was raised
11:14
in so it's it's it's it's it's it's
11:17
incredible to say the impact that they
11:20
had because from from from LL from run D
11:23
DMC Jam Master J now you talking about
11:26
50 Cent you talking about salt and
11:27
pepper you talking about you know Minaj
11:29
Minaj I mean Legends around that area
11:32
absolute legends that have impacted the
11:35
culture like like like no place ever do
11:38
you see the intersection between you and
11:42
them yes and and I'm I'm forever
11:45
grateful I'm forever grateful uh and I
11:48
think you know this is you know you see
11:50
people that there's an intersection
11:52
today but it's nothing like the
11:54
intersection back then because because
11:56
it changed the game because it was it
11:58
was nothing before that that yeah and uh
12:00
I'm I'm proud to be part of the the
12:02
initial group that uh intertwined with
12:05
hip hop and and and and basketball or
12:07
Sports in general and now the the irony
12:10
is now when you think about uh the Mark
12:13
Jackson show being on to come and talk
12:14
to me YouTube channel salute to my
12:17
brother Camron Harlem's finest salute to
12:20
my man mace Harlem's finest and what
12:23
they've been able to build man they're
12:25
two of the most intelligent people in my
12:27
opinion uh two of the most business
12:29
Savvy people who were able to take the
12:31
culture and monetize it without bending
12:34
or breaking or compromising their
12:36
integrity and they had the wherewithal
12:39
to to seek you out they recruited you
12:42
right and and was was uh
12:46
really they didn't just recruit me they
12:48
put a Ambush on me you
12:50
know you know initially it was no you
12:52
know I appreciate it but no they doubled
12:55
back and tripled back and to their
12:57
credit they they they you never know who
13:00
you're impacting yeah and and here are
13:03
two legends not just in rap but in in
13:05
society in Cam and Ma and they were I
13:09
say this and I'm not I'm not
13:10
exaggerating they were more offended of
13:12
me being fired than I was wow and it was
13:15
like personal so like no no no we we
13:17
need you and and this is what we're
13:19
willing to do we we we have to have you
13:21
as a voice and um they came back three
13:24
four times and and really laid out a
13:26
plan and and and I'm sitting there you
13:29
know I'm from I'm from New York city so
13:31
my mindset is and Cam and M tell you I'm
13:33
like
13:34
okay what what y'all up to man what good
13:37
what what what y'all trying to do so and
13:40
I remember specifically Cam said look
13:42
and me said it too he said look you're
13:44
Mark Jackson if we mess up Mark Jackson
13:46
or screw you over we can't go back to
13:49
New York City that's true and I'm I'm
13:51
like wow yeah powerful powerful how much
13:55
money was in the bag though was that
13:57
real like how much money they C you know
13:58
New York City lie a lot they put a I put
14:01
a 20 on but I will say this he was close
14:05
they didn't they they didn't they might
14:07
have put a five on it but it was it
14:08
wasn't a Twi it was it was enough in the
14:11
bag for him to call me and be like it's
14:13
it's this amount in the bag right now
14:14
son like what we doing what what you say
14:17
oh you don't want to know what I
14:22
say yeah I do yeah yeah I was I was down
14:26
you see I'm here
14:29
it man love it I love it man this is
14:32
what I want to do man we got Mark
14:33
Jackson and blue Jackson we found out
14:35
they share the same last name they're
14:37
both in here man I want to open up these
14:39
phone lines have folks call and talk to
14:41
you I got a lot more questions for you
14:43
Mark and I want to say congratulations
14:45
to you I'm glad you're here absolutely
14:47
888 742 3345 let's take them to Queens
14:51
y'all Mark Jackson is here listen in
14:54
case you want to
14:55
get if you want to find out more about
14:58
Mark Jackson a lot of times this is what
14:59
I love about the current state of media
15:02
especially there's a lot of athletes who
15:04
are going to the other side now and
15:06
becoming a part of media yeah you know
15:09
uh athletes with experience with
15:11
experience I love with Matt Barnes and
15:13
stack though you know um all the yeah
15:16
all the smoke um I love Wallace Rashid
15:20
Wallace has a awesome podcast as well
15:23
shout out to you she you Tariq Mark Mark
15:25
Jackson's podcast the Mark Jackson show
15:28
is it's great hearing you talk man I
15:31
like when people ask you these questions
15:32
about your career they'll ask you who's
15:34
your top five whatever right um who's
15:37
your top five point guards who your top
15:39
five centers I'mma ask you um who are
15:42
your top five
15:44
MC's that came from Queens that came
15:47
from Queens wow that's tough yeah man
15:50
I'mma back up in no order no no order
15:53
obviously run the MC and LL okay that's
15:56
a ding
15:59
Cent right
16:01

16:04
um two more left Nicki Minaj got to be
16:07
in there Nikki come on she's she she's
16:10
doing things no one else has ever done
16:12
yes true
16:16
life
16:18
damn take your time take your time final
16:21
slot where Co rap from this Brooklyn I
16:25
feel I feel like Queens adjacent for
16:27
some reason I would have thought Nas
16:29
maybe Mark with a oh Nas I'm getting a
16:32
Nas I was saving I'm trying to find
16:33
another spot so oh but so l l and run
16:36
are like one a and one B like that's the
16:38
same for you they they're just in there
16:41
they just in there okay L they're Head
16:42
of the Class okay LL run Nicki Minaj
16:46
okay I got it 50 and N 50 and N 50 and N
16:49
M man that starting lineup is crazy
16:51
that's like a allstar game right there
16:53
that's crazy it's like allstar game
16:54
right there that's a Hall of Fame game
16:55
that's a Hall of Fame game right that's
16:57
dope you you came now okay I'm I'mma
17:00
Trac here Heather I'm going let y'all
17:01
jump in we got callers too do your thing
17:03
but the year that I want to say uh MC
17:08
Hammer put out let's get it started Big
17:10
Daddy Kane put out long live the cane
17:13
Public Enemy put out it takes a nation
17:16
Too Short put out life is too short this
17:18
was all in
17:20
1988 and Mark Jackson won Rookie of the
17:24
Year all in the same year unbel ain't
17:28
that something one of those things don't
17:31
fit we just keeping it
17:33
real one of those things don't fit but
17:36
it does fit because that that to me is
17:38
symbolic of the intersection between
17:40
music culture and sports and our
17:43
communities you are as important um to
17:46
us as the biggest rapper and as the
17:49
biggest drug dealer you know let let's
17:51
not skate over that it all kind of was
17:54
going hand in hand at one point right no
17:56
question uh especially in Queens how did
17:59
you avoid all of that and you know even
18:02
though you got your parents when you in
18:05
the streets that's something else how
18:06
did you avoid all of that and then were
18:08
you connected to let's say the Supreme
18:10
Team or members of that at that time
18:12
well I wasn't I I wasn't connected I
18:14
obviously you're in you're in the
18:16
neighborhood you're well aware and and
18:18
you do have a connection because there's
18:20
there's some regular folks that become
18:22
kingpens yeah so for example there's a
18:24
guy in my neighborhood named Bimi who's
18:27
well known today shout out to yeah I'm
18:29
his OG this my young bim's your young my
18:32
young my young Bim will tell you today I
18:34
got mad at him because he ate my mint
18:36
chocolate chip ice cream from Baskin
18:37
Robins in
18:38
referat I came home I like you got to go
18:41
you got to get out I mean he was at my
18:43
house every day Bim was staying with you
18:45
yes he he'd show up to my house every
18:47
day and in college he'd be at my
18:49
apartment every day and eat my ice cream
18:51
and go in my fridge and and a year and a
18:54
half later I I'm I'm Rookie of the Year
18:56
and I drive to the neighborhood and I
18:59
see Bim get in the car I get him in the
19:02
car and he's riding shotgun with me and
19:04
we riding listening to music and
19:05
chilling next thing you know the cops
19:08
pull me over because I I'm in a black
19:10
BMW in the neighborhood they didn't know
19:12
it was me and I look over to the
19:13
passenger seat and bim's fixing stuff in
19:16
his pants I'm like yo what are you doing
19:17
he's like he has some stuff on I'm like
19:19
got some stuff on this is new to me I'm
19:21
like what what the heck you talking
19:22
about uhhuh I said just stay still cops
19:24
let me go cuz they recognize who I was
19:26
thank God I pull over the next block get
19:29
out you a ride with me you a ride with
19:31
me but you think about people that
19:33
getting it could have been a headline
19:35
story and you think I'm affiliated with
19:36
him I got nothing to do with him it's
19:37
just a pure coincidence but to his
19:39
credit he's changed his life he's made
19:41
better decisions abolutely and he's
19:43
still a brother for life but there
19:44
there's times that you learn a lesson
19:46
you got to say I'll catch you on the
19:48
other side or down the road but today
19:50
you ain't messing up my hustle you ain't
19:52
messing up what I got going on and but
19:54
it's people that you're connected to in
19:56
the neighborhood every single day
19:57
whether it's rappers deal is whatever it
20:00
may be you got to use wisdom and learn
20:02
lessons and say that's not for me and
20:04
I'm not going to deal with that Mark
20:05
Jackson man I love it man we got a lot
20:07
of people on the phone L yeah we got to
20:09
take these calls okay let me start with
20:11
uh kilo from Minneapolis kilo man what
20:15
up kilo we was just talking about
20:17
drugs you know what
20:20
crazy I'm sorry kilo welcome to the show
20:23
you
20:24
there yeah I'm here she's not happy with
20:27
you at all he you talk to her go ahead
20:30
key don't pay him no mind you know how
20:32
he is every single day he fresh off a
20:34
Napa Valley little hung over still but
20:36
go ahead key I got you what's up sis no
20:38
you're cool uh so basically y'all
20:41
already answer half my questions that I
20:43
had but I was looking into something and
20:46
it said
20:47
that not in a rude way I mean this like
20:50
straight up respect so is there a reason
20:54
why it said some people won't sign with
20:57
you or like hire you because of some
21:00
attitude issue is that right is that
21:02
your view on it because some What
21:04
attitude issue attitude you got some
21:06
attitude not in a like rude ass way or
21:09
nothing but like you got you got
21:11
attitude problem or something because
21:13
that's how it it's the media made it
21:15
sound at least from how I looked at it
21:19
kilo I thank you for the question that's
21:20
a great question it gives me a platform
21:22
to respond to a lot of nonsense I think
21:24
you know In fairness I I was always
21:27
raised like you don't respond to
21:28
everything because at the end of the day
21:30
stay true to who you are and people will
21:33
say well this guy ain't acting well it's
21:35
been 59 years now and 40 with a with a
21:38
platform that I've been consistent and
21:41
and with who I am as a man as a father
21:43
as a friend as a leader and people still
21:47
believe the nonsense that's written so
21:49
at some point like I get my family like
21:51
you got to say something dad I'm like no
21:52
chill that's n it'll play itself out but
21:55
it play itself out doesn't which is
21:57
unfortunate we're at the time where a
21:59
traveled all around the world people
22:00
said I don't like certain people and
22:02
certain groups of people you can go back
22:04
and there's no quote of me ever having a
22:07
documented statement on anything but
22:10
it's well Mark said this well tell me
22:13
what I
22:14
said by using my words and it's it's
22:18
it's it's discouraging and disappointing
22:20
and it can affect you but thank God and
22:23
I'm a man of faith and I believe
22:24
ultimately I'm a win yeah so kilo
22:27
presenting this question I didn't tell
22:28
tell her I didn't go to Minneapolis or
22:30
call her before I don't know her yeah
22:31
but I I salute you for the question and
22:33
giving me the opportunity to respond
22:35
because it's frustrating but it's and
22:37
and and even as a man of Faith you can
22:39
get discouraged yeah yeah but but it's
22:41
going to happen and when it does I can't
22:44
wait and I have an opportunity to truly
22:46
respond by continuing to conduct myself
22:49
in a fashion in in a form that is is is
22:53
is indication of who I am and the way I
22:55
was represented the way I was raised I
22:57
love that kilo I'm sorry what I said
22:58
about your name it's too late thank you
23:01
Martin thank you all right you a citizen
23:05
way in the morning hey hey Mark before I
23:07
take this next question then I gotta ask
23:10
you this man I took a lot of heat for
23:12
years I joke around about the Warriors I
23:14
love them so much um but I didn't
23:16
believe that whole well of course they
23:19
won these championships they were a
23:21
super team what do you think of that did
23:24
you assemble a super team or did you
23:26
assemble s guys who have potential to be
23:29
super players and created a super
23:32
program well they went and got KD so
23:34
they they they became a super team and
23:36
credit to them is that don't mean you're
23:37
GNA win you got to now execute being a
23:39
super team so to their credit they
23:41
became a dynasty what we did and I don't
23:44
say what I did what what we what we did
23:47
is assemble a group of guys that cared
23:49
about basketball and cared about
23:50
competing at a high level before I got
23:53
there they made the playoffs one time in
23:55
19 years this was a losing situation
23:59
we developed the proper habits to put
24:01
you in position to at least compete the
24:03
first year we won 23 games in a lockout
24:05
shorten
24:06
season you put together guys who not
24:09
only say they want to win but mean they
24:11
want to win and you show up to a day off
24:15
and 15 guys in the gym working out
24:17
getting their game on because they care
24:19
about winning so you find the guys that
24:21
are not acors but guys that want to
24:24
execute the game plan Steph Curry Klay
24:27
Thompson Draymond green Harrison bonds
24:29
and and FES zil and and and and Andre
24:33
Galan you start surrounding them with
24:35
veterans like Gaine O'Neal and Jared
24:37
Jack and K Landry and David Lee that
24:40
that care about winning and and hold
24:42
guys accountable great things can happen
24:45
and and you start talking about it and
24:47
and you get a little bit of success you
24:50
get a little bit more success and you
24:51
like this this really can happen to
24:53
their credit this has nothing to do with
24:55
me it's the ownership it's management
24:58
it's coaching and most importantly is
25:00
the players and you can't give enough
25:03
credit to Steph Curry and the person
25:05
that he is he's a better person that he
25:06
is a basketball player and he allows you
25:09
to coach him and it's is it's incredible
25:11
what they've been able to accomplish and
25:13
I was just fortunate to play a small
25:14
part in it and I shout out to Steve Kerr
25:17
yes who also acknowledges come on man
25:20
who also acknowledges what was done
25:21
before he got it because it's easy to
25:23
say yeah this is all me this is all me
25:24
he's he's a brilliant basketball mind
25:27
future Hall of Fame coach and and he
25:29
still finds a way to to give me credit
25:32
for what we was able to do setting a
25:33
foundation I love that you shout it out
25:35
Steve cuz people they'll make up a story
25:38
that you got something against him I'm a
25:39
bad
25:42
person what do you think about the clay
25:44
trade well it wasn't a it wasn't a trade
25:47
the signing yeah the signing yes I
25:49
think in the ideal World Klay Thompson
25:52
finishes his career with the Golden
25:54
State Warriors but you know how this
25:55
business is
25:58
the Loyalty only works one way and
26:00
that's not a knock to the Warriors
26:01
that's that's that's just the way the
26:03
sports is you know everybody don't get
26:05
to sign a deal at the end like Derek G
26:07
the truth we told you look back and they
26:09
probably should have let him go as great
26:10
as he was yeah Klay Thompson is gonna be
26:12
fine and and it's a great pickup for the
26:14
Dallas Mavericks unfortunately he didn't
26:15
end his career with the Golden State
26:17
Warriors but that's not the the way the
26:19
world works and I think uh I'm proud of
26:21
Klay thomps because when we drafted him
26:23
and he'd be the first to tell you Klay
26:25
Thompson being in a group text with all
26:27
the players and didn't even respond
26:29
because he just wasn't like he he's not
26:31
a talkative guy yeah and now all these
26:33
years later this guy is the best I call
26:36
15 NBA finals this guy's the best
26:38
interview to sit down and talk to yeah
26:40
and it's it's it's incredible how far
26:43
he's come not that he wasn't he just
26:44
wasn't comfortable and that that's just
26:46
wasn't who he is and now he sits there
26:48
and eloquently describes being a
26:50
champion and making his place in in in
26:52
the history of basketball I'm proud as a
26:54
as a coach and as a friend Mark Jackson
26:56
is here man Hey listen you can continue
26:58
to listen to Mark Jackson he has his own
27:00
podcast the Mark Jackson show it's on
27:03
the come and talk to me YouTube channel
27:05
just go to come and talk to me owned by
27:07
Cam and mace all right Heather you want
27:10
to jump in you from New York I'm from
27:13
Jersey it's a difference you from San
27:16
Francisco you like you see how that
27:18
happens you need to stop playing H
27:21
serious you know what I can't stand him
27:24
again welcome to the show excited to
27:25
have you guys I had a bunch of questions
27:27
I was taking notes but I feel like you
27:29
kind of answered one um with this last
27:31
answer that you gave cuz I was curious
27:32
is how much better you know can a good
27:36
coach make a bad team and vice versa and
27:38
you kind of answered that for me so
27:40
thank you for that the other thing is
27:41
sway was talking about music earlier and
27:43
I jotted down cuz I I'm from the era
27:45
like all of us from the N1 mixtapes and
27:47
I remember like Skip to My Lou and his
27:50
rise and everything that happened with
27:51
that but is there anybody else that came
27:54
from that era that should have made it
27:56
but didn't cuzz I feel like we just hear
27:58
about Rafa Austin but is somebody else
28:00
that could have possibly made the jump
28:02
as well that we don't know about Mark
28:04
well there's a bunch of guys that that
28:06
blue Jackson what was that blue
28:11
Jackson this is what I want to know
28:13
because you know it seemed like this one
28:15
you know it's just like kind of battle
28:17
rappers you know one may make it and
28:19
make it big but there were other people
28:21
that maybe should have you know gotten
28:23
it look there are guys that certainly in
28:25
the neighborhood and from New York City
28:27
could have made it uh and and they they
28:29
have testimonies as they walk past you
28:31
or you walk past them by the stop sign
28:33
or by the park because they mess with
28:35
drugs because they dropped out of school
28:37
so there's there's certainly legendary
28:38
guys but what I will say is two
28:40
things you can say I had an argument
28:43
with a guy he says there's a guy in
28:44
prison or in the streets is better than
28:46
Michael Jordan no no no he's not no
28:48
there's nobody in the streets or in
28:50
prison that's better than Michael Jordan
28:51
that's that's not true that's they're
28:53
not better than LeBron James now could
28:54
they have made the NBA absolutely
28:56
there's some people and the other thing
28:58
you talking about ski my Ling and one
28:59
mixtape but my younger brother who
29:02
passed away a couple of years ago Legend
29:04
Escalade um who was an N1 mixtape Legend
29:08
and uh 610 four 4 500 PBS and he could
29:12
have been n NBA player had guard skills
29:14
but he was the youngest of of five and
29:17
Dad instead of taking him to McDonald's
29:19
and letting him get one like all of us
29:21
he was the youngest so he got two big
29:24
Maxs you remember yeah he's bragging but
29:29
weeks go by and months go by all of a
29:30
sudden Troy becomes escalating I'm like
29:33
wow but he could have if he was more
29:35
disciplined with his with his
29:36
conditioning and his eating habits uh he
29:38
could have made it and and there's
29:40
certainly stories all throughout New
29:42
York City and the streets of this
29:43
country where guys could have made it
29:46
had they been more disciplined and uh
29:48
respectful to the process do you think
29:49
it was a disciplined thing with even
29:52
with pearl Washington cuz I remember
29:53
hearing like how great he was in high
29:55
school and how great he was in college
29:57
but somehow
29:58
the transition to the pros cuz I know as
30:00
you saying that's another level that's a
30:02
great question and I'm the same age as
30:04
Perl Washington the late great Perl was
30:06
truly an incredible basketball player I
30:08
grew up playing against him and uh
30:10
certainly respect and people feared him
30:12
on the basketball court but I will say
30:14
this it's not about the the the you know
30:18
the working and the discipline and all
30:20
that with him with him it's about the
30:22
confidence when he was in high school as
30:25
a kid he was a world beater and he he
30:27
faced no ad Unity when he went to
30:28
college he's at Syracuse breaking down
30:30
the Georgetown press facing adversity
30:33
he's a he's a guy that goes from college
30:35
to turning pro early and and go into
30:38
into the league but now all of a sudden
30:40
you playing against you know 350 400
30:43
other highas and you going to get your
30:45
tail hand to you at some point to to a
30:49
regular dude that just got it going and
30:51
nothing you could do so how you react
30:53
and respond to it is is it it propels
30:56
you to have a prolonged career as
30:59
opposed to putting your head down and
31:01
being a little frustrated and getting a
31:03
little disappointed and now doubt seek
31:05
seeks in and you're no longer the same
31:06
world beer he's he was a tremendous
31:08
basketball player that had a great
31:10
career that I got I got the ultimate
31:11
respect yeah for sure thank you for
31:13
sharing yeah Tracy I know I know you're
31:16
on the New York side you want to jump in
31:18
there absolutely thank you sway um this
31:21
is for both of you fellas and it's kind
31:22
of on the flip side of our caller um
31:24
kilo's question the media industry is is
31:28
swelling with new members each day right
31:31
and with attention being the one of the
31:35
highest forms of currency you're seeing
31:37
a lot of folks compete in somewhat
31:40
nefarious ways for that attention right
31:43
ways that are are worthy of critique and
31:45
it makes me interested in knowing for
31:47
both you Mark and blue can you give us
31:50
some description of what you guys as a
31:52
Duo consider your morals and ethics what
31:56
are some types of stories that maybe you
31:59
wouldn't talk about or how you would
32:01
want to talk about it is there such a
32:03
thing as going too far with your
32:05
opinions or even with videos that is
32:08
shared
32:10
online
32:11
well I'll answer it this way I'll say
32:14
that and I appreciate your question um
32:17
I'll say that me and me and my father
32:19
with our show uh there aren't
32:22
necessarily red lines that we're not uh
32:25
that we're avoiding but at the same time
32:28
our goal is to speak to the youth speak
32:31
to the the young young ball players
32:33
young kids and encourage people because
32:35
as as my pops just told that story
32:38
confidence is so much of everything and
32:41
after after the quarantine after so many
32:43
things that we've going through as a
32:44
society everybody is so broken down and
32:47
so the space that I believe that me and
32:49
my father show fits in is is almost a
32:53
nostalgic space where this is father son
32:56
again this is moralistic values this is
32:59
interesting and maybe we not going to
33:01
have somebody come and twerk in the
33:03
middle of the episode but you you wanted
33:06
that we might we we talk we talk Sor
33:08
I'll just watch I'll watch it is what it
33:10
is you
33:11
know my sh working the beautiful part
33:14
though that's the beautiful part that's
33:15
the beautiful part of us being on that
33:17
Network because Cam and mace as
33:19
legendary as they are and incredible
33:22
incredible it's not enough that we could
33:24
say about them but the dynamic of our
33:26
shows are totally totally different and
33:29
so I think sometimes when people even
33:31
come to come to the channel and they're
33:32
like oh this is totally different than
33:34
what I'm expecting with Cam Maz but the
33:37
the niche that we've that we found is is
33:38
a beautiful thing this guy is good this
33:40
guy is good man that's your dad that's
33:42
your son proud that proud of that moment
33:46
but let me piggyback one thing that
33:48
jumped out as he was talking um there
33:50
are people that'll say how did you how
33:52
are you signed to cam Ma you know they
33:55
they doing different things they don't
33:57
stand for what you
33:58
I've worked for
33:59
folks that that that are not as good a
34:02
people as cam Ma I bet you have
34:04
absolutely so we can get caught up in
34:07
nonsense we can get caught up in
34:09
nonsense and not give them credit for
34:10
who they are as businessmen and as
34:12
people they've been making money cam has
34:15
they have been successful for decades
34:18
and success isn't always being paid
34:21
right success is working through the ups
34:23
and the Downs that's all a part of the
34:25
success and Cam and mace have been
34:27
business-minded since day one what other
34:31
businessmen would you want to work with
34:33
you know what I mean you got to keep
34:35
that even the way they just reinvented
34:37
themselves in these recent times and
34:39
interested in protecting your legacy how
34:41
about that that is a
34:43
lost lart form characteristic they
34:46
throwing their legacies away for likes
34:49
most people not Cam and mace hey Blue
34:52
what's up you've been really talking
34:54
throughout this interview this is your
34:55
dad's interview man what you mean
34:59
we know what your dad did he done earned
35:01
his way up here that's why you here they
35:03
didn't even tell me you was coming bro
35:05
they didn't say nothing and you sitting
35:06
in the seat they didn't say nothing you
35:08
